Huge amount of stuff has happened this year but not the one thing I thought deep down inside would happen before I turned 31 and had lost weight (2 and half years of trying on & off!)

I had weight loss surgery (WLS) and know that I shouldn't be trying until I hit the 12 month mark. I had heard of peoples fertilty issues just disappearing with a huge amount of weight loss, well that didn't happen for me. I have lost almost 45 kilos within 6 months and we are still not pregnant.

So I turned 31 at the end of Nov and discussed with my husband my concerns, on 1st Dec I had an appointment with a fertilty specialist. (I had made an appointment with him a while ago but never did all the things he suggested and didn't go for all the tests, I put it down to us not being ready). I went alone, had to get a pap smear and hubby was busy with work. Dr was fantastic, asked lots of questions about my WLS and asked me not to be too worried yet as my body has a lot of recovering to do from my surgery but wanted me and my husband to get all the tests so he can see what the path will be for us.

I went and had bloods taken, an internal ultrasound and HYCOSY which was very very uncomfortable. My poor husband had no choice but to give his sample in a white sterile room at a fertility clinic as the nearest one to us wasn't close enough!!!

We are now on day 12 of our cycle and all the test results get revealed at ur appointment on the 6th Jan which seems like a life time away.

IF you read that ramble thank you - I'm not a massive contributor to I-do but I find the women on here are inspirational.

As a ltttcer, I'm afraid I don't have any real words of inspiration, as I'm going through the TTC struggles myself.. I only hope the results come back with little to no problems and you get your wish real soon. sleep.gif

First of all, Oh My God, you have done a fantastic job, to lose that much weight, you should be very proud of yourself and your body must be going "what the hell"?

My DH and I had been trying for 12 months before we went to a FS and was with her for 2.5 years (we did clomid, IUI and IVF) before we got a positive result, so it has been a long road for us too, but we finally go there.

At least you will find out what you are in for and get some answers , trust me it is better to know and then you can begi on the best path for you, and increase your chances to the highest level possible.

I know its hard but try not to get too disheartened, hopefully it is something as simple as timing. Enjoy Christmas and New Years and the 6th will be here before you know it.

I have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks ladies for the supportive responses. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and reply.

Well we had our appointment yesterday. All the tests we did came back all clear. NO reason for NO bubs. Very frustrated but extremely relieved. We have been placed on a 6 month plan to see if we can conceive naturally ourselves. I should have spoken up at the appointment and said No we don't want to wait any longer (as we got in the car husband and I pretty much said at the same time, "we don't want to wait any longer!") but we are both willing to follow the instructions of the Dr to the letter. Blood test every month to see if we ovulate and we go from there.

It will be almost 3 years trying when the 6 months are up.

Must try and keep the negatives away and think positive and think YES WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY SOON!!!!

Congratulations firstly on your weight loss- that is a terrific achievement smile.gif

And great news that all of your tests came back ok (It's not good that there is no reason that you haven't been able to conceive so far- but I guess if you are looking on the positive side at least there is no reason it won't happen hopefully sometime soon wub.gif )

What sort of steps are involved over the next 6 months- apart from the blood tests to see if you are ovulating?

Wishing you all the very best- and hoping your dream comes true very soon wub.gif smile.gif

It must be frustrating to be told to just keep trying but very good news that the results were all clear!! Good luck for the next few months!!

Hi Fifi and thanks.

Well actually thats the thing, even tho I mentioned above I would follow everything to the letter, he hasn't really given us any new information that we didn't already know or we haven't already been trying. (I've even gotten to the point of being on my head after ... !) I must admit I haven't taken temperatures or done POAS ovulation type tests, he just said to make sure we BD from day 10 to day 20 every 2nd day.

Now thinking about it the next 6 months are going to be exactly the same as the last 2 1/2 years. I am willing to wait and try and hope and pray (because also of the surgery I've had) but my and my husbands patience levels aren't great at the moment.

Oh I don't know ... I guess we will have to wait and see and hope and pray and have positive thoughts

thanks jessmay smile.gif (sorry was posting at the same time as you)

***PREGNANCY MENTIONED BELOW***

Kylie, you know my history, and I was in the same position, only my FS told me that my fertility would return to normal when I lost 10kg. After losing 30kg I went back to him and asked where the hell my baby was. He had no answers, other than sometimes it's just the body isn't quite ready. He did make mention that essentially my body is a whole different thing since losing weight, and I shouldn't expect to get pregnant right away, that I am basically back to Cycle number 1 after the previous 2 years being erased from my bodies history.

6 months later, my body decided it was ready, and got my long awaited positive pregnancy test. I know it is hard sweets, but hang in there.

I know your FS has said to BD every second day, but taking temps did help me to pinpoint where I ovulated, and the follow through. We were going through OI and still not getting anywhere with perfecting ovulation, and the temping helped a lot. Maybe give it a go for a few months.

Thanks April, your story is a wonderful success story. I often think about you and smile and am so happy for you and your husband and hope that one day in the near future we will be blessed as well.

You are right about it being cycle 1 again, I keep saying to my hubby, "but we have been trying for the last 2 1/2 years" being the very patient man that he is, he keeps reminding me that I was 45 kilos heavier previously so my body needs time to catch up with the weight loss let alone a baby as well.

Having good and bad moments but in the end of the day we are ok and we need to be patient (easier said than done!!!!)

I will also look at temping as well, sounds like I need to get a notebook for next to my bed to joint all my thoughts and things down.

Also Kylie, please take heart from the knowledge that if you now get to the end of the six months, lose some more weight, and still don't have that BFP that you so rightly desire, your FS will be right there with you. If you've done all they've asked, they'll be straight on to a more interventionist route, rather than starting with IUI and hoping for the best. I know it seems like forever, but as SB said, you have to think of the past two and a half years (and 45 kgs, you go girl!) as erased. They don't exist, and you're starting from this point at cycle 1.

I hope they baby gods are smiling and you get your BFP before your six months are up, but if not, you're certainly on the right path. smile.gif

I think Swarles Barkley has a good point- as unfair as it is not to have had success after 2.5 years, your body has undergone remarkable changes and may be trying to get re-in-sync.

Charting your temps and paying close attention to those subtle changes to your body at different times of your cycle might help? I keep a small calendar and a pen on my bedside table and note down my temp, and any other signs, also when we BD blush.gif - it is a little over the top in some ways but it helps me keep track on what my body is doing- and it's something I can look back on to compare and see changes or similarities as I wait- and wait! If nothing else, at least I am getting to know my body better after scrutinising everything for almost 18 months!

Keep on being positive smile.gif

I think you mean OI sweets. IUI is considered an intervention. But even that said, I did everything they asked and still did OI with success, it just depends on the individual. If there appears to be nothing causing the problem, it would be unlikely to jump straight to IUI or IVF without trying monitored OI to start with.

Did you end up getting an iPhone Kylie? If so, I highly recommend the App iPeriod. You can track your temp (in Celcius - not just Farrenheit like so many other apps) and other things (CM, BD, moods etc) and it graphs it for you. Otherwise try fertility friend on the net. I think my thermometer cost me $10 on ebay, and the App was $3.

Being patient is hard, trust me I understand, but I have no doubt you will get your dream one way or another.

D'oh *smacks forehead*, yes sorry I meant OI, not IUI! Clearly I should have gone to bed already!

Pitter patter - you are absolutely right, 6 months isn't really that long in the grand scheme of things and I am being checked monthly to make sure I ovulate, if the test comes back more that once and I haven't ovulated, like you said, straight to something else to try.

Fifi - Every month I think a pain or a twinge means "BFP" and then I get my period again, so I think a notepad I can write in is a great idea, I started putting in my phone so my first task tomorrow is to get a journal.

SB - On a waiting list for an Iphone, thanks for the app help. I will definately check it out.

I really appreciate you all taking the time to read and reply to me, It means alot wub.gif wub.gif
