Hi girls

Glad to see everyone is doing well smile.gif

We are going OK. Just taking each day as it comes. Ash had a rough day yesterday due to a play date in the morning and no arvo sleep, but luckily Harper slept through the whole thing so I was able to focus on Ash.

I'm already having supply issues and am on domperidone. Which I was prepared for after all the problems I had with Ash. So lots of feeding, expressing, and top up feeds. But he's content so thats all that matters. Looking forward to our middie appt tomorrow to see if he's putting on weight.

I think I'm almost ready to type up my birth story. Feeling a bit better about everything now that I know what actually happened - although its scary as hell. I had whats known as a vasa previa or velamentous insertion. My midwife said that she's surprised that it didn't cause a miscarraige/still birth earlier, and that if I was anywhere other than hospital on the CTG machine when my waters broke, we would've lost him sad.gif So we are very lucky.

B has been worse than useless since we came home. He was here for about 1.5 hours on saturday (which he slept the whole time) and haven't seen him since. Called at 8pm last night and spun some shit about him being in bed all day from a sore back and that he'd be around this morning... its now 3:30 and still haven't heard anything. Meh. His loss. Newborn moments fly by and he's missing them. Idiot.

Em I'm so sorry B is letting you down, you're right though, at the end of the day, he's the one missing out and at least you know not to rely on him. Vasa previa is scary, the timing of your waters breaking when you were on the CTG is incredible, like your body knew when to do it to protect Harper, kinda special in a way IYKWIM?

Carolyn I don't think I've congratulated you on Spencer, so HUGEST congratulations!!!! Great name too, Bas was almost Spencer biggrin.gif The twins cluster feed from about 5pm onwards. Generally I just make myself comfy and park my butt for the duration. I let them snooze on me because generally the sleeps aren't very long, not worth putting them to bed only to have to get them back up almost straight away.

Cobie and Ishi, hope you're holding bubbas in your arms soon!

Hello ladies!
I just logged back into I do for the first time in ages!

Congratulations to all the new mummies! It is certainly a whole new experience to adjust too. But a fantastic one!

I'm doing well and adjusting ok. Benji is a pretty good boy. My biggest problem with him is putting him to bed.. If I put him down before he is totally zonked out he will wake up straight away... Sometimes this can be frustrating at 1am when I am tired. In another month or so I will look at trying to practice self settling.

Carolyn I do what Meg does. Alex usually cat nap between feeds for half hr so I let him do it on me or hubby if I need to eat/shower etc and then we feed again

But last 3 nights after alex's last feed of the day we get a solid 4 hr sleep out of him which is really fantastic for me'!! The sleep I get is really awesome.

Nice to see you again Sarah! I hope Benji is going ok. I am finding Alex hard to settle after some feeds, but I was told to try Dr Harvey Karp's 5 S's for settling and I think it really does help. Especially the swaddling. If Alex is not Wrapped properly he never sleeps well.

Hope everyone else is going good!!

Thanks Sarah, good to know, I thought we were doing something wrong. unsure.gif Looks like we're doing the same thing at the same time. Glad to know that it sounds like a typical newborn thing. smile.gif

Thanks Megs. blush.gif Sounds like this type of feeding is normal. I was worried that my boobs weren't producing enough milk. Seeing as I'm on tablet for my supply. It's just kinda at an annoying time, isn't it? Spencer is up from 6pm to 9-10pm the last few nights and seems so awake. I don't know whether to try and keep him as quiet and settled as possible. Or if I should engage him more at this time? Cos he's never this awake during the day.

Em, I've never heard of vasa previa. What a stoke of luck that you were in hospital. ohmy.gif Harper was meant for this world. But what a terrifying thing to find out. Hope you're doing well and that Ash is being good for you.

Cluster feeding is very normal at that time of day as our supply (regardless of how good or bad it is) does drop off in the afternoons and is at it's highest when we are asleep or first thing in the morning.

If you can manage a sleep in the afternoon it will help a little bit, but it's a newborn thing and doesn't last long smile.gif

This is exactly what my HCN said today at our visit. I opted to go back to my hospital clinic as we are using nipple shields and I want to continue with their care until we wean off them.

But it seems Alex and I have had no trouble in the food stakes - in 7 days he has put on 210grams!! He now weighs 3390 grams and the nurse said that our feeding appears to be in order lol!

Hope everyone else's babes are well x

I'm about to chuck in the breastfeeding towel already.

With Ash I put myself through hell to continue combo feeding til 8 months.

We are already on domperidone, expressing and feeding like monsters and still needing formula top ups. He is so much more settled after a formula bottle I am so tempted to just switch to full time formula.

But I promised myself I'd stick it out for 6 weeks and make a decision then. I'd dearly love to be able to BF longer, but I don't think I should put the pressure on myself if it doesn't work.

Congrats to Cobie! What a gorgeous little girl!

Nothing new is happening with me. Just trying to handle the lack of sleep which I find the hardest.
My inlaws are staying with us for a week... This is sending me insane!! At least DH has three or more weeks off work.
