Kristy - I hear you on the not wanting to start solids cause they are growing too quickly as it is!!! Andrew likes to watch us eat too, I try to talk to him about what we are eating and make it sound really interesting, not sure if that will work forever though, its hard to make brocolli sound exciting!

I came back because I realise how awful my last post sounded, like 'everything is so awesome, babies are so easy!' kind of thing. But I actually never finished my post, I think Andrew woke up and I was writing it in stages and thought I'd finish. What I didn't write was that while some things are going well (like feeding, sleeping) other things are not. Going out is still really hard, I've tried a few times and we're fine for the first hour, then he just screams in the pram. And of course I usually still have to do a quick grocery shop so I can't pick him up or anything. So here I am racing through Woolies with a screaming baby and people are literally jumping out of my way cause I'm walking so quickly haha! So as a result I'm really not going out much. I think I've been out once in the past two weeks and that was with DH to visit his grandma in hospital. But I don't mind sitting at home, there is always plenty to do and at least I get a rest! But its just easier to stay at home cause he can feed/sleep/play at his leisure. Other thing is my group of friends don't have kids so I'm losing my friends as well.

I'm keen for a Brisbane meet - I live in Ipswich but I know the south side of Bne best so would prefer that. I pretty much have no social life so any time/day is good for me.

Karryn - Sounds like Lachy is doing really well. Pity about AF. Has the mini pill helped? I started taking it when Isaac was 8 weeks old. DH and I are completely paranoid about getting pregnant again even though I am BF. We have heard of a few people getting pregnant quite soon after number 1 even though they were BF.

Kristy - I have been thinking about getting a Bumbo too. Didn't know whether it is worth spending the money on it or not?

Katy - Great to hear feeding and sleeping are going well. Will Andrew sleep in the pram? Wondering whether he is getting tired when you are out and not able to sleep in the pram? It is a shame you don't feel like you can go out very much. Maybe just keep going out even for a walk in the pram and seeing if he will figure out how to go to sleep.
I don't know about the sunrise waking Isaac because this morning he slept until 730am without waking?! But that is unusual.

AFM - Everything is going well for us too. We have our good days and our not so good but I think I am way more confident as a mother which helps. We have been going out heaps. Sometimes I think a little too much. We have started going to gymbaroo which Isaac loves. He is now rolling from his tummy to his back and holding his head up really well. Sleep is still going as well as can be expected and the dummy is still working for us. We are down to 5 - 6 feeds each 24 hours. Sometimes 1 of a night or sometimes 2. Last night we took him to the rugby in the baby bjorn. He was really good until half time. I think the main problem was it was really humid last night and I had dressed him in a long suit thinking it would get cold. Poor little thing didn't sleep and was really hot so completely cracked it! I was thinking once we got home that he would be really unsettled all night but after a change and feed he went to sleep really well and slept until 4am before feeding then back to sleep until 730am! So happy. I am going out today for about 6 hours and leaving Isaac with DH. This will be the longest time I have left him. DH has looked after him heaps on his own but not for this length of time. I am going wedding dress shopping with my girlfriend which will be heaps of fun.

Starting solids - I am going to wait as long as possible before starting. Isaac is very content on the feeds he currently has and is gaining weight. I think once he isn't satisfied by breast milk anymore I will start. Hopefully this will be close to 6 months old.

Gosh our kids are growing up so fast. Doesn't seem like that long ago we were all pregnant smile.gif

Amanda - Hope you had a great day out with your friend. I'm sure your DH had a great son/dad day too! We left Lachie with my MIL tonight so we could see a movie. Luckily we just on our way home when we got the message saying he wouldn't take the bottle. I hope Isaac took his! Great to hear that everything is going well and the dummy is still working. It worked for Lach up until about a month old and since then it's been a bit hit and miss.

Katy - We have our good days and bad days too. Like you I find Lachie will actually sleep if we're home and only catnaps at best if we're out. Sometimes I find it easier to stay at home knowing that the kids will both sleep (well maybe for Alyssa!) Having said that it is good to get out even if it's just a short trip. I find it really makes the week go faster, otherwise it can get a bit monotonous at times. Oh and Alicia has been updating on FB lately so she is around.

Kristy - we had a Bebe pod with Alyssa, but it didn't work very well as she had such chubby thighs she always got stuck in it and you'd need two people to get her out - one to hold her and another to pull the seat off! Lachie isn't nearly as big yet, so I hope I get some use out of it this time! At least it's been used though, it's been shared around 4 friends babies smile.gif

AFM - Lachie had his 4 month needles today a bit late due to a cold. He's weighing in at 6.7kg, so more than 4kg since birth smile.gif. He's a bit cranky with it, but otherwise ok. He's still sleeping ok at night, but takes forever to get to sleep. It's not uncommon to be still trying to get him down about 9 o'clock. I really need to try and stick to a bit of a routine to help this, but he always seems to wake at a different time in the morning - usually before 7 when I would like him to be getting up. So it's a work in progress. I've had a month on the mini pill and much to my disgust 2 visits from AF sad.gif Asked the GP about it today and she said it may take a couple of months to get regular again.

For the Brisbane catch-up how is next Tuesday for everyone? I'm thinking either Indooroopilly or Garden City shopping centres, but I'm happy to go anywhere with aircon! It's a stinker here today sad.gif BTW I'm at Eight Mile Plains.

BTW I'm probably going to start Lachie on solids at 5 months, eek only 3 weeks to go. Thanks for all your feedback smile.gif

Katy- Added you smile.gif Andrew is so beautiful just checked out your pics hehe Oh and your last post didn't sound bad at all! well i didn't take it badly biggrin.gif

Amanda- Hope shopping went well smile.gif Im loving the bumbo..i wasn't sure either so ended up getting it pre loved off ebay for $35 now i want the tray too hehe Finn was starting to get a flat spot from being in the bouncer/laying down so needed something different to mix it up and keep him off his head (i put him on his belly but the cheeky monkey just rolls over to his back)
Gymbaroo sounds great i wish i had one nearby to me

Karryn- Its funny you say that about the pod- i kind of have to hold the Bumbo down with my foot otherwise he gets stuck laugh.gif At 7kgs he's making up for his slow gains as a newborn now haha

AFM- Finn is going well, he's around 7kg now so making up for his earlier lack of weight gain...he will be 4 months next week by date sad.gif Going so fast! Last night i was feeling his gums because he constantly rubs one particular side and i can feel a tooth coming through (its only a tiny prong and not quite through the skin) but geez son your not even 4 months yet stop growing up so fast tongue.gif Even K waited until 5 months for a tooth laugh.gif

Is anyone is Sydney- all this talk of a meet up makes me want to go to Brisbane or at least meet any Sydney Nov mums tongue.gif
Actually FIL & his wife live in Brisbane...next time we visit i might have to gate crash a meet up happy.gif

Gosh, we've had such a crazy week here, I feel like I haven't stopped!

I'm about to take Lucas out again - morning tea with his dad at work. Just waiting for him to wake up.

How about we tentatively say 10am Tuesday for our meet up, Garden City at the Coffee Club? I can't remember what it is like for prams to get in there but if it's no good then we can move once everyone's arrived. (Unless someone knows a better coffee shop?)

I will start a thread to invite other mums and bubs along if people are keen?

Katy - good to see you on FB! Andrew is such a cutie (I'm looking at his pics and typing here while they load on my slow slow internet!) I hope Andrew is just giving a few signs of coming down with something and he's actually just fine smile.gif

Amanda - wedding dress shopping sounds great - how did it go? Great to hear that Isaac was ok for some time at the rugby!

Karryn - ahhh, 7 would be a dream wakeup time wouldn't it! I think in Brisbane with all the light and heat I have buckleys - we often have between 530 and 630 wake ups.

Kristy - rolling over and a tooth - Finn is growing up so fast! Of course we can have a meet when you're in Brisbane (Unless we all meet and hate each other tongue.gif laugh.gif )

AFM: Lucas had his 4 month vaccs on Monday, he took well to them at first but got a fever and a bit hysterical in the evening. Went down to sleep as per normal and then slept through. Ahhh, beautiful! I felt so refreshed on Tuesday! He slept through again Wednesday night (I could sooo get used to this). Life is a lot easier now our houseguests have moved out and we have our house to ourselves again.
As I said, we've had a mad crazy week, vaccinations and checkup on Monday (Lucas is 6.99kg and 68cm long which puts him in the 25-50th percentile for weight and 95th percentile for length! He's going to be a tall one!), the in-laws came around Tuesday, I had mother's group at my house on Wednesday, went to meet friends for morning tea and lunch in the city yesterday and off to meet DH for morning tea today, so we haven't had a single relaxing day! The whole weekend is booked too!!!
I'm just so amazed at how much Lucas has grown up already, he's just so different from the helpless crying little baby now and he has this little personality starting to shine through. I just can't get enough of him wub.gif

Lucas has started on Solids, we started on Saturday (4 months), following Lucas' paediatrician's advice. I didn't give him anything on Monday because of the vaccinations, and I didn't give him anything yesterday because I forgot. Whoops! He LOVES it, it's hilarious, the first half of the feed he is very unco and spits it all out with his tongue, the second half he opens his mouth and scoffs the lot. It's just rice cereal and breast milk at the moment but we'll start to introduce more stuff shortly.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and I'll try to be back in here again shortly! (and I am going to copy/paste this to notepad before I press post this time!)

We've had a busy week here. Lach had his needles on Monday and ended up with high temps as he wouldn't take the panadol sad.gif He'd spit it all back out and just to make sure he didn't get any then threw up his milk as well! On Tuesday night Alyssa got a cold and ended up with nearly 40 degree temps as well sad.gif So after a trip to the hospital and a couple of GP visits, hopefully it's all going to settle down soon.

Coffee Club sounds good to meet at. There are a few tables outside (on Big W side) that might be good to fit all the prams otherwise there's other places close by to move to if need be. So long as the kids are healthy we'll be there.

Janelle - I'm happy for you to start a thread. Glad Lucas has had some great nights sleep for you smile.gif You certainly have had a busy week - sounds like fun smile.gif Lucas sounds like he's loving his solids.

Kristy - Finn is making fantastic weight gains. It's great that he is rolling and has a tooth on the way too. Are you planning a visit to Brisbane soon? smile.gif

Katy - Hopefully Andrew will be fine for Tuesday too smile.gif

Katy - Did you set up a Facebook group? If so what is it so I can add it. Hope Andrew is feeling better.

Janelle - SOunds like Lucas is thriving! I am curious as to why Lucas's doctor said to start him on soilds at 4 months? There seems to be heaps of debate at the moment about when to start. Seems like there are so many different opinions/thoughts.

Karryn - Poor Lachy and Alyssa. Hope they are feeling better.

Kristy - One of my friends has offered to lend me her bumbo! I am going to get it after we get back from visiting my parents. 7 kgs!! - Wow that is awesome. I am in Melbourne.

Dress shopping was good. Found some nice bridesmaid dresses but they are $450 ph34r.gif My friend really likes a Mariana Hardwick dress too which is also expensive. I had one of her dresses and I loved it! But it is a huge investment.

Isaac is now 6.75kg! Getting closer to 7kg. We have our four month needles in a few weeks sad.gif He wasn't too bad last time so hopefully it will be the same.

Have had a really busy weekend with people over on both friday and saturday night. Looking forward to a quiet day on Monday.

Janelle & Katy - Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to go tomorrow. The kids are both still sick. Alyssa is still having temperatures and we were back at the GP's today to see what to do. Lys had to have a blood test and we'll start antibiotics tomorrow sad.gif

I would have really liked to be there, so hopefully we can organise another one soon.

Hope everyone else is well smile.gif

Well, to recap my catchup on my other post:

Amanda - $450 for a dress is expensive! If it's stunning it may be worth it wink.gif
Lucas' paed followed the advice of the allergy council (or whoever they are) who basically say to introduce lots and lots of foods before 6 months. We're supposed to introduce peanut, fish, egg etc before 6 months, because there are studies suggesting that holding out on introducing these foods is why we have such a big spike in allergies these days. So we decided to go with his advice and we've started Lucas on solids at 4 months. I'm yet to decide on whether to do peanuts etc just yet (bit nervous I suppose) but he said that it's fine to do it. In countries where peanuts are used as a weaning food, peanut allergies are really low.

Karryn and Katy - Hope your little ones are feeling much better. Let me know when everything is ok and we'll reschedule. smile.gif

AFM - On the weekend I took Lucas to his aunt and uncle's optometry practice and he had his eyes tested. They discussed a few things with us and we decided to try to get him into a baby physio. He's going tomorrow. He can't lift his head when doing tummy time still, so he's a little developmentally delayed. Today we went to the child health nurse, and she expressed concern about the neck/head control thing as well and said we should go see a paed as well. We're going to see what the physio says tomorrow first I think before I get too worked up. The CHN said that by now he should definitely have head support greater than what he has (his neck control is ok but he wobbles his head around a bit). She said that breech babies can have this problem, and that c-section babies can too, so all up, we had the odds stacked against us.
I can't wait for the appointment tomorrow now, and I really hope it eases my mind a bit. I'm quite worried.

It's DH's birthday tomorrow as well, so I have lots of present wrapping to do... I should do it while Lucas is asleep (that's right! He's asleep! During the day!!!!!!! ohmy.gif ) so I'd better run.

If I've missed you in the catchups HELLO! Hi Beth, Hi Alicia, Hi everyone else if I've skipped you!

(My post which was eaten yesterday was waaaay cooler than this one laugh.gif)

Just a quick one from me. Alyssa is finally better smile.gif The antibiotics have worked wonders and her temps are down and she's back to normal.

Lachie was amusing today as he kept wiggling around the playmat heaps and ended up turned around 180 degrees!

Amanda - glad you had a good time shopping, bugger that the dress was so pricey. Great that Isaac is having such a good weight gain!

Janelle - Hopefully the physio appointment has alleviated your worries and they can give you some exercises to help strengthen Lucas's neck and head control.

Katy - Hope Andrew is on the mend too smile.gif

Janelle & Katy - How about we try again this Tuesday for a catch-up. Same time, same place?

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hey everyone

Karryn - I'm keen for another attempted catchup, keep me posted. Looks like I"ll be having LOTS of time at home for a while doing exercises with Lucas...

We saw the physio and she said that she thinks that Lucas is 'developmentally delayed.' He's fine with all the mental things, it's just upper body strength and movement (he likes lying like a starfish most the time).

So the physio is going to see him a few more times (she was $250 for the first visit and doesn't get much cheaper after that, ouch - but she is obviously very very good) and then she's going to try to identify if he needs to be referred on to another type of specialist or if he just needs a bit of a boost with physio.

I have lots of exercises to do with him - he's not to wear a nappy during play time at all, which gets a bit messy (as you can imagine), and he has to do things like hold two rattles at once (in opposite hands), try to swap a rattle from one hand to the other, marching his legs while he's lying down, holding his legs together, rocking his legs, grabbing his feet with his hands etc etc. To be honest, I find it really difficult to do a lot of it because I have a lot of back pain (in fact, one thing she thinks may be a cause is some genetic thing from me - I never lifted myself up, and I never crawled but I walked early, she thinks that could be repeating with him)
I'm feeling a bit down about it all at the moment to be honest, and feeling very very guilty. (Good old mother's guilt!). It's funny, I was just worried because he didn't done one thing, and she's found all this stuff he doesn't do that he should be doing by now - I just didn't know that I should be encouraging it (eg, the passing toys from one hand to the other). On the bright side, he is now doing some of those things already. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and stressed about it all at the moment, but we'll get there smile.gif
