Just wanting to get some help just to confirm something on my tax return is correct.

I had PH cover for the full year, hubby did not, only for 21 days or something to that effect. So we have both been charged the medicare levy. Is this correct, or should it only be hubby paying it as i was covered fully for the whole year??

TIA biggrin.gif

I'm not a tax accountant so I'm not 100% sure but unfortunately I think that's right. As you're considered a couple, rather than 2 singles, you both have to have the PHI cover or the ATO will charge you both the additional 1% medicare surcharge. Sorry. sad.gif

Bugger, i was really hoping our accountant was readin it wrong. Makes sense but is so annoying, means i pay about double for the surcharge to what i did for PHI. Boo hehe ah well. Thanks heaps Goodgirl biggrin.gif

Yep - it is worded along the lines of "did you and all your dependents have cover for the full year". Dependents including your spouse in this case.

It is a pain in the arse but correct unfortunately.
