I hope we hear from KK soon, I hope she is ok.
How many more births do we have to go?

Lissie fingers crossed you go soon. I can't wait to hear more baby news.

Thanks Sesame for your lovely message.

Blocked ducts, 5 of them! You poor thing, I hope they clear soon. What advice die they give you for that? I haven't called the aba yet but they do sound great.

LadyCJ I agree with everything Sarah has said, especially about your midwife!! A gain is a gain and fingers crossed she'll be back to her birth weight in no time smile.gif I have rung/emailed the ABA a few times and 2nd they are great. Big hugs smile.gif

As for bub's being awake too long wacko.gif M was awake for 2 and a half hours this morning but try as I might the little pain wouldn't sleep no matter what I tried. At the end of the day I figure he'll have to sleep eventually tongue.gif Even if it is in my arms and I can't get anything done dry.gif

Sesame Sorry to hear about the blocked ducts. I only had one and it was a big fat PITA. Hope they clear for you soon

Yep he's sleeping........ but only when in my arms wacko.gif I'm hoping to get thewashing inside before it gets damp, fat chance though rolleyes.gif

TBH i'm not sure mine is totally gone. Mine happened on the left side and was very hot to touch and red. the heat has gone but the redness is still there, not as red but certainly noticeable, to me anyway. The things I did that helped were:

feeding off that side all the time and expressing the other side for comfort. hurts like hell to feed off the sore side but bub's should hopefully clear the blockages

massaging the red area towards the nipple, again hurts like crazy

took some panadol and nurofen

put cool washcloth on after feeding to help with swelling and the pain

HTH

QUOTE(Lady CJ @ Jul 26 2010, 02:30 PM) View Post

I'm abit upset, Alex was 3.18kgs at birth, on Thursday she lost 270grams, down to 2.91kgs & today she weighed in at 2.99kgs, she only gained 80grams. Alex is 9 days old.
The midwife said she was awake too long this morning & I wasn't feedng her right. I don't think I have been having many let downs, hey I didn't even really know what a let down felt like till she told me today. I really want to wake her now to try & have a let down.

DH has been so supportive & has held her for the last 2 hours while she sleeps, she too won't sleep alone. He said he is proud of me, it is so nice. But he goes back to work on Friday.

Ok I am sure I will say this over and over again in here but do you think she is feeding fine? If so don't stress over this. You know Alex the best and DO NOT let anyone tell you different. I had the same problem with Zack, he took ages to gain weight and when he did it was only little amounts. I had the inlaws on to James to get me to bottle feed him and it stressed me out but the whole time I knew he was fine and I knew he was feeding fine and was happy and content. BC of this stress I will not be seeing the midwife this time I REFUSE too. The added stress doesn't help with your milk supply and I know if Ashton is ok. I will go down to the chemist and weigh him myself for peice of mind if need to be. PLEASE don't stress about this some babies take alot longer to gain lots of weight take it one step at a time. You are doing an amazing job!!!

Sarkorska- Hope Kiara's sleep inproves soon for you. I agree never wake a sleeping baby.

Seseame- OUCH!!! Hope they clear soon.

AFM- My little man loves being home he has been so much better behaved then when he was at the hospital. He slept from 8pm, 11.30, 4.30 and 7 last night and i am telling you that is fantastic at the hospital he would only sleep in my arms. He is very windy!!!! Zack was never like this and he will scream for hours my poor little man. Zack is besottled with him always kissing and cuddling him telling me I love him mum. He is going to kill him with affection wub.gif

I will write my story up soon but I neally didn't have him on the day as they couldn't get the spinal in. It took them over an hour and two doctors to get it in and I am never going to crouch over like a cat again it was sooooooo uncomfotable and hurting my belly, Ashton was kicking me telling me to give him some room and I couldn't breath. They came to me and said my options were go under general (I said NO WAY) or try another day maybe go to maitland to have a go another day. They came around to me and said another dr is going to have 1 last go and if not we will try another day and he got in in last go I was sooooo relieved. I have a nice bruise on my back the size of a large hand. I took a photo of it when I got home but they said it is heaps better then what it was.

I will post photos soon!

This will be quick.

Lady CJ - Don't worry to much. Addison lost almost 500 grams between being born and when we left the hospital on the Saturday. She got measured last Friday and has only put on 300 grams. The doctor said as long as they are eating, not crying down the house with hunger then it is ok. Call the ABA. I haven't used them yet but I am making an appointment tomorrow to see the lactation consultant just to make sure I am going ok as even though I can see Addison's double chin I still worry she is not getting enough. Believe in yourself. I have no idea what I am doing half the time but I figure we are both learning and I am going to do things my way. Hugs to you.

Sarah - sorry to hear about the blocked ducts. I hope they fix themselves soon.

Sprinkles - I hear ya on Master M sleeping on in your arms. Addison is a bit like that some days. Today my friend suggested putting her on her stomach to sleep during the days as some babies just don't like sleeping on their backs. She slept in her bassinet for over an hour. I wouldn't do it at night but I can watch her during the day. My Mum puts her down to sleep on her side. An idea?

AFM - off to child health nurse tomorrow where I am also going to see about seeing someone (counsellor) I will just break down and cry and I think it has more to do with DH than PND but I don't want the two to blend into one. Addison gets me through the hard parts - hugging her makes me feel that little bit better. I am emailing DH pics of her that I take every day so he feels more connected I haven't heard from him today - I am hoping deep down inside that he will at least text to see how his daughter is going. That will hurt the most if he doesn't. Anyways enough of my sad sackness. I am going to go and watch some downloaded TV, feed little miss at 7.30 pm ish and then hopefully get some sleep. I can't sleep during the day so I am really struggling right now!

Hope we hear from KK and Lissie soon.

KAAAM, you're amazing!
What a phenomenal mum you are to Addison, even in the hardest of circumstances smile.gif
It's inspiring! And have I mentioned how much I love Addison's name?

Sarah thanks for the tips! It sucks sad.gif but if this is the worst of my probs, I'm doing pretty well smile.gif How are you feeling this week? I hope everything seems a bit brighter.

PS: Lena - your bruise ohmy.gif youch!! You poor thing! Can't wait to see pics of cutie-Ashton!

I also hope we hear from KK soon, I have been wondering and hoping everything went well. Hopefully she is just in a gorgeous newborn bubble smile.gif

Lady CJ Lily was a low gains baby - everyone told me to put her on the bottle because 'obviously' my milk wasn't enough. Luckily I had a super supportive ECHN and mum who showed me that she had the required amount of wet/dirty nappies, she was alert, meeting milestones, etc. Give the ABA a call if you are concerned, they are there to help with feeding smile.gif

Ouch sesame, blocked ducts hurt! Sarah has given some great advice too smile.gif Also gently massaging the blockage while you feed to encourage it to drain helps (but is a bit ouchy!!)

Sarah Master M sounds so much like Lily as a newborn! She would also only sleep in my arms. lovely, but impossible to get things done. Have you tried him in the sling? It was a lifesaver for me as Lily also would not tolerate the pram/rocker/anything. Samuel sleeps on his own, but we put him on his tummy during the day - he sleeps on a mat in our lounge room so I am constantly watching him. At night he sleeps on his side - this is not the recommendation so it is how comfortable you feel with it, but he doesn't like being wrapped and the physio wanted him to sleep with his hands together - being on his side allows this. We use a sleep positioner to be safe smile.gif

KAAM you are doing fantatically. I hope your DH contacts you. Good luck tomorrow, I think it is a really strong thing to do, taking the step to see someone when you are going through a tough time.

Lena that bruise sounds awful sad.gif How gorgeous does Zack sound with his little brother wub.gif

AFM we are going well, Samuel is still a little unsettled due to the antibiotics so I will be glad when they are over! The poor thing has diarrhea and has been fussing on my right breast. Lily didn't like the right much either! It doesn't seem to have a good let down like the left laugh.gif I might ask the lactation consultant if there is much I can do about that, I already offer the least favourite side first.

Do any of your babies have a side they prefer?

Lena Love the new profile pic. Your boys are gorgeous. Sorry to hear they had so many issues getting your spinal in sad.gif

BJL M favours the right side. Never used to, I'm blaming the blocked ducts. dry.gif He does like to sleep on his side as well. I put him on his side today on his lambs wool rug and he slept for around 30minutes which let me vacuum smile.gif

I have a baby bjorn sling and I put him in it today. I think he's a little to small for it or something because his head wasn't supported at all and I had all the straps as tight as possible. I gave up after a while because his head was digging me in the sternum blink.gif

LadyCJ I meant to ask is she wetting enough nappies in a 24 hour period?

KAAAM You are amazing. I hope you get to see a counsellor and they can help you in what must be a hard time in your life. Hope your DH continues to be involved in Addison's life

KK and MissNic Congrats on the birth of your boys wub.gif

Sesame Things are okay. Still struggling with getting frustrated at the little guy sad.gif But I guess I must remember when he's fussing etc 'this too will pass' It's become my mantra after reading that thread in general chit chat

Hey,

I finally posted my birth story. I hope it is alright & makes sense as I didn't get much time to proof read it.

Sprinkles yes I believe she is doing enough wet ones & poo is now mustard colour & liquidy.
I think she is getting more let downs now & she slept in her cot for 2 hours last night! That is a record!!
Mostly she sleeps in my arms in bed.

LadyCJ if she's having enough wet and dirty nappies than I would say she's getting enough milk. just my opinion though.
i read your birth story - it was great.

AfM What a sh!tty night. M was awake from 2-5 and no matter what we tried - feeding, changing, bouncer, sling, burping, bed with us... he just wouldn't sleep. I was very tempted to give him a dummy but didn't. If he does the same tonight i'll try a dummy. He has started sucking on his fists and I'm kind of in two minds about what I prefer. I guess you can give a dummy to santa/dummy fairy etc but you can't get rid of a thumb (ie if he turns into a thumb sucker)

Does anyone else bub's poo/fart when feeding?

M poos and farts HEAPS when feeding and I think the problem last night was wind. But when he was on the boob he was fussing and would only stay attached for around 30 secounds. That's why I was wondering if perhaps a dummy would help with the wind/wind pain??

Well he's finally asleep again so I'm off to get ready and go to a friend's place. She had a baby boy 6 days after M so they are going to 'meet' each other laugh.gif tongue.gif

LadyCJ- I agree with the wet nappies. Also my midwife said that it is very important they get the hind milk not just the "let down" bc this is where the hmmmm fat? is in your milk. She said to make sure I feed Ashton for min 20mins on one side to make sure he gets that milk. Will have to go read your story.

Sprinkles- I had a crap night too. I am trying to get Ashton to take the dummy bc he keeps finding his thumb to suck on and he is very windy. One midwife while trying to help me stop him screaming bc of wind pain suggested to give him one to help the poor thing through it she said she hasn't seen a baby cry so bad from wind pain in a while. Another told me he doesn't need it but I figure we can get it off him. He doesn't take it alot of the time but I offer it quite a bit. I say anything to make them and you happy.

Just some pics for now, I need to upload the ones since being home yet but these are the hospital ones.

Hi everyone - you are all making me so happy to read all of this - makes me feel very normal!

My b00bs are rock hard today so milk has definitly come in. Biggest feeding problem is keeping the little guy awake for long enough. He nods off after feeding for maybe 20 mins, we do all sorts to wake him to finish - tickle his feet, feed him only in a singlet and nappy, etc etc. He might get to 20 mins each b00b and is dead to the world. We'll then get him ready to go to sleep and he is wide awake and wants more b00b wacko.gif I'm not sure if it is because he is so little or what - but we'll get there.

Also, does anyone elses bubba hate being nude? When we change Jack, he screams the place down until his has a nappy back on, and when we bath him he starts up again as soon as he is naked. I'm not sure if there is something I can do to get him used to having nothing on?

Sesame and Sprinkles - ouch on the blocked ducts - hope it all clears up soon.

KAAAM - agree with the others, you are doing a fantastic job! Hang in there, use the support you've got - little Addison is lucky to have such a super strong Mummy. Big hugs xx

LadyCJ - It's hard not to be concerned about weight. A gain is a gain though and if bubs is happy and healthy, it's all good.

BJL - I hope that mastitis is clearing up. Jack definitely likes the left breast better - we have a lot of problems getting attachment right on the right side. We have to work a lot harder to get the angles right on that side.

Sprinkles - oh yes, the farting while feeding! Jack is still geting the meconium through. Stinky! Jack came out after delivery and the first thing he did was put his hands in his mouth to suck on them - he was actually doing it when I had the 34 week scan. I want to avoid a dummy if I can though.

Lena - That would have been a shocker waiting for that spinal to go in! I love the pics. Those are two very handsome little men you have there.

Here is a pic of Jack on his birthday wub.gif

Lena - for someone who has not long had a C section you look great!!!! They are two pretty special boys you have there.

Sprinkles - Addison does that heaps. She will have a dirty nappy after almost every feed. It is like milk goes in one end and the after product gets pushed out the other end. Sorry to hear about your crap night. I have had nights that Addison is awake until almost midnight and it is hard to try and work out what is wrong with them. I am really naughty and put her in bed with me after her 5.30 am ish feed and we sleep then till nearly 8.00 am.

AFM - Addison is above her birth weight now by 45 grams smile.gif The child health nurse I had took forever and I think has dementia. We weighed and measured as soon as we got there and then half an hour later she asked me to strip Addison so we could weigh her! She was an elderly lady so I am thinking that is where they send nurses almost ready for retirement! Didn't mention the counselling she wouldn't have understood. i am not a wonder woman either!!!
