I seriously need some ideas, I am getting married in January next yr and I don't know where to go for our honeymoon, we are thinking somewhere warm and we were thinking somewhere like the Cook islands or Vanuatu or Tahiti.

I understand that it is the wet season but I would like to know if we do decide to go will we be taking a real risk of having miserable weather.

I would also like to know of any accommodation that stood out to anyone somewhere nice and value for money.

Thanks, really appreciate your thoughts and advice.

We went to Fiji in January 09 and ended up getting stuck in a cyclone and having to be evacuated from our island and then we were stranded on Denarau and unable to get to the airport because of flooding, the hotels were set up as evacuee bases and the usual food services were even cancelled because no fresh food was getting in because of the floods, they just had a buffet each evening.. all in all it was a huge disaster and not at all the romantic honeymoon we had planned.

After Fiji we came to New Zealand and had a fabulous time (so fabulous that we ended up moving here actually).

We got married in Jan 08 and honeymooned in the Whitsundays. I desperately wanted to go to the Cook Islands but our travel agent strongly suggested that we didn't.

So we ended up having 5 night on Long Island and then 5 nights on Daydream Island. It rained every night but never during the day, but we were a bit lucky I think as the time we went was between two serious storms. I was really happy with what we did, it was good value for money and the accomadation on Daydream was lovely (Long Island was adequate, but nothing fancy.)

We have had friends that have gone to NZ for their honeymoons and really enjoyed it too, so that might be a good possibility, especially with the Aussie dollar being a bit stronger than the NZ dollar.

We didnt go to the Cook Islands for our honeymoon, but we did go over for hubbys cousins wedding and we had a ball! Very relaxing, friendly locals and great food. Plus all NZ dollars so it really wasnt any more expensive than here. Hubby and I still rave about some of the resturants there. Trader Jacks is FABULOUS!
(just as a side note we spent 2 weeks in Rarotongo including flights for less than our honeymoon at Brampton Island cost which was 1/2 the time)

Have you considered Thailand or South East Asia somewhere?

Being further north they don't get the wet season that the Pacific gets in January but you'll still get the heat. You could try some islands like Koh Samui (Thailand) or Langkawi (Malaysia) or the beach side town of Nga Trang (Vietnam) - that's just a few suggestions smile.gif

I've been to Thailand in January and February and both times we had great weather and only a few days rain which would could get anywhere. That'd be my bet - there are loads of beautiful resorts throughout South East Asia that are all reasonably priced too.

It was because of the rainy season. In retrospect, I'm glad we didn't go as they had a cyclone or something at the time we would have been there, but I still really want to go. I guess though like any place that has a wet season, you pays your money and you takes your chances. It could have just as easily not happened.

We are having this exact same problem! We are getting married in January too and wanted to go to the Pacific Islands for or honeymoon. But because it is monsoon season there then I just don't want to risk bad weather.

So now we are thinking of delaying our honeymoon and going in the April/May school holidays when the weather is better. I have always wanted to go to Fiji and it has always been my ideal honeymoon destination but I don't want to spend all that money and have it rain all the time.

So our plan is to go for our honeymoon to Fiji in April but go somewhere like the Gold Coast for a week after the wedding as I'd still like to get away somewhere.

Have you looked into the Maldives? Perfect weather there in January! We considered going there as it looks absolutely beautiful but it is sooooooo expensive!! We can go to both Fiji and the Gold Coast for cheaper than a week in the Maldives! Depends what your budget is like.

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon in early February. It was utterly perfect and the weather there is at its best in January and February.

Hi Mate

The best Honey moon spot to visit in January is Lausanne which is in Switzerland which has good climatic conditions and rich in botanical gardens. It's one of the best place in the world. smile.gif
