It's absolutely normal. My take on the "sore" bit (I may be totally wrong, but in my experience with 2 boys) is that it isn't necessarily painful, but feels uncomfortable when it presses on the inside of the nappy. So more of a funny feeling than sore, but because their vocabulary is so narrow at that age any feeling that isn't normal is "sore".

He'll get used to it. Maybe do his nappy up looser so there's more room for expansion. But it's a physiological thing and there's really nothing you can do about it.

I too am of the same train of thought as Primm. It may not be actually sore, but its the only word he knows to describe the discomfort he may be feeling?

Probably wouldn't hurt having it checked out though, just in case it really is hurting him and there is an underlying issue?

Is he circumcised?? I have heard of some cases that the skin can be tight when erect, not due to them being cut but resulting in the need to be circumcised??
Is it possible to see if anything like that is happening?

Just thought id throw it out there for consideration..

Glad to hear that he is ok...sounds like he was waking with a morning glory hehe

My little man is nearly 6 and he often has one when he does his first wee in the morning or if he wakes through the night, so maybe its a result of the pressure in the bladder?
