Hi ladies,

We are organising Ewan's christening for a couple of weeks time. Invites have gone out, cake is ordered. I wanted to run the day past you and see if I have missed anything? I also have a couple of questions:

Church service: 10am - 11
Photos outside church: 11-11.30? These have happened at christenings I've been to so I assume they will happen at ours. No professional photographer or anything, just happy snaps
Lunch: booked for 12. It's about a 10-15min drive from the church at a local pub. We have a section reserved and are putting on a BBQ lunch for everyone followed by cake and coffee. Drinks are BYO

So far, does this sound ok, timing and provisions wise? I feel tight not paying for drinks but the budget is already stretched this month tongue.gif

Should I organise some platters of nibblies for when everyone arrives? Or bring the food service time forward so people aren't stood around hungry?

We have about 20 kids coming, ranging from 2mths to 15years (majority are 1-4) so I have booked a clown to do face painting and balloon twisting for 2 hours. There is no playground at the pub so I am worried the kids will be bored or drive the rest of the pub crazy by running around like lunatics...

I plan to set up a blanket/mat with baby toys on it for the littlies to roll around on/play on... there are half a dozen or more 5mths-1.5years. Does this sound ok?

I wondered if I should be provided lolly/activity bags and make them age/gender specific. Is this a done thing for christenings or am I going OTT?

I'm a newbie to all of this so appreciate any feedback you can offer...

thanks gals

All sounds wonderful Liza. As for lollibags, not really the done thing BUT given you are worried about entertaining the kids, perhaps an activity bag age specific would be a good idea - perhaps a little colouring book, some bubbles (this can entertain kids for hours) etc etc.

PS. I wouldn't worry about not providing drinks, after all it is a christening, not a piss up

Sounds great Liza - the kids will be fine, lunch and cake will keep the bigger ones occupied - blanket is great idea, don't worry about lolly bags.

Lunch at 12 is sensible (maybe ask the kitchen to be prompt about serving at 12), by the time everyone chats after church and then drives over and get a drink and settle in it will be 12, no need for nibbles - just maybe make sure cake is fairly quickly served after lunch with all those littlies a lot of people may not stay very long after lunch.

Make sure there are lots of piccies!!! I insist on seeing them soon after wink.gif

Sounds great Liza. biggrin.gif

Thats similar to what we are planning, but the BBQ is at our place so i suppose timing is more flexible.

I migt just provide some activity books and pencils for the kids, and bubbles as someoen else said.

Perhaps you could shout 1 round when you cut the cake for toasting, or just sparkling wine for those who want it.

Sounds like a lovely well planned out day smile.gif
