Hi there,

Just wondering if you think professional Photography is all you need? How important is it to get a video of the wedding as well?

Thanks for your opinion,
Erin

We had both and TBH I watch the video more than I look at the photos. I love the video it was done so well. We got a full length and highlights DVD and I watch the highlights one all the time. Apart from a few pics on the wall I rarely even look at the photos.

I hired a videocamera and tripod, and my nephews (aged 18 and 16) recorded the ceremony and reception. They took their task very seriously, and had carefully planned what they wanted to do re camera positions etc

All I wanted was a keepsake, it wasn't important to have a really schmick wedding video. I'm really happy with it. biggrin.gif

Hi Erin,

I was wondering the same thing about 6 months ago when I was looking into photographers/videographers. Alot of people have mixed opinions about it, but TBH, I have never spoken to anyone who got a video & regretted it. The only ppl who have told me that it was a "waste of money" were the ones who didn't get one - so they couldn't really compare. In the end, we decided that we would always regret NOT having one. We decided to save money by not hiring wedding cars & just borrowing nice cars from ppl we know and we put that money towards the video...

Good luck!

ETA:

I also thought about getting my own video camera and getting someone we knew to record it for us.. but there was no one really who we could ask, that I wouldn't feel bad about making them see our wedding through a lense!

I never wanted a video but my MIL did so she hired a videographer. I've never seen it and don't really want to. It's because I can't stand watching myself or hearing the sound of my voice.

Many people will tell you that it's worth it as it captures moments they missed at the wedding or helps them relive the day. I think if it's well done and of good quality, chances are you won't regret it.

Do I think it's a waste of money? Only if it's poor quality. Do I think it is necessary? No.

That is very sweet!

I didn't want a video for the precise reason katya describes above, so we didn't get one. Do I regret it?

Not at all...

We had a friend video the wedding and my DH is yet to edit it and put it together nicely. Its been 2 years since our wedding and I haven't wanted to watch it at all. I remember everything very vividly so don't really feel the need to watch the video.

I would suggest you get a friend to video the wedding. I wouldn't pay a professional.

We decide to hire a videographer and though I've only watched the video a few times, I don't regret the money we spent. I like being able to hear the speeches again and watch the dancing.

I have plans to watch it again soon, but in my emotional hormonal state I know I'll cry, so I'm going to leave it for when I'm home alone blush.gif.

We are not having a video but are going to a wedding 2 weeks before our own and M is in the bridal party. They have a video camera and I will be filming it for them and then they plan to edit it to how they want it. They have just told me what they want filmed. I think this is a great cheap option, but it depends on how professional you want it..which also depends on how often you think you will watch it.

Thanks everyone for your help. I appreciate it. I think I may get an uncle or cousin to video it instead of professional- at least we will still have a copy then.
Still not sure though? I have a few months to decide.

Erin85, i had a professional wedding videographer filmed our day. Both of us were extremely happy with the result. I guess today, if i hadn't made the decision to hire a professional, i would have regretted it big time. I dont like to hear my voice lol so i asked the videographer to silent all audio out. I just wanted motion visuals of the day as so much happened that couldn't all be captured by photographers. I'll attach a link here for my video trailer. All the best Erin85 smile.gif

We had a friend of a friend video ours, who is also a professional (she is actually a producer for channel 9)

I do not regret a single cent we spent on it. She did a fantastic professional job and I watch the edited highlights (about 30 minutes) at least every 3 months, and we've been married over 5 years now. Adrey loves watching it too and gets so excited seeing Mummy and Daddy on the screen.

As others have said, I watch the video way more than I look at the photos. I am kinda over seeing the photos in fact. But I still love watching the video. It seems more real to me.

I say do it. You cant change your mind after the event!
