My MIL will be minding Aurelia and they want to have a carseat for their car. I have no idea wha model ours is - borrowed it from my sister.

Can you recommend a non expensive car seat. Raya is 21 months at present.

Also can anyone fill me in on the changes to the law regarding car seats and restraints etc that I missed while I've been in the UK?

thanks

I'm a big fan of BabyLove Prelude. They're the same shell as Babylove EzySwitch but come in plain black only. They're about $200 at Kmart but can regularly get them on sale for $150. They rear face to 12kgs and the top slots are the same height as the tops slots on the MaxiRider.

The new laws state that a child needs to be in a child restraint with an inbuilt harness until 4 and then in a booster until 7.

I second that one. Both sets of grandparents have it and it I'd easy to use. I find it easier to adjust the straps on it than on my safe and sound.

Can I just hijack with a question? Does that mean that Josh needs to be secured in his seat with the 5 point harness until he is four? I'm not sure the maxi rider does that does it? I thought you could only use the harness until 18 kg which I think Josh may very well be close or over already?
I'd love to have him stay with the harness on though.....he fits in the seat ok but I think it's just a weight issue?

Chelley I bought the Infa Trek8 as a second seat for my mums car. It seems bigger than the Maxi Rider and was a little cheaper. Havan't had it installed yet so can't tell you what it's like unfortunately.

The laws need to e used in corelation to the safety limits of your seat. Britax (makers of Safe N Sound) have said that the inbuilt harnesses in their seats are safe to use up to 20kgs as they're all tested to 22kgs. Unfortuanetely there aren't any seats on the market here with inbuilt harnesses for larger children, sucks.

I'm going to hijack slightly as well. What would you recommend as a second seat/capsule for a newborn or young baby? I'm contemplating just hiring, but we can't go everywhere in just my car all the time when the bubba arrives. We have a SNS Premier for my car (to be installed next week), but nothing for DHs car. I know he's not keen on the idea of the bubba "messing up" his car though! He's quite anal about the cleanliness of it - he vacuums it out after EVERY trip to the beach laugh.gif I suspect he'd have a heart attack if bubba dared spew or something!

I'd recommend exactly the same as I've recommended for CHelley, BabyLove Prelude, rearfaces up to 12kgs, comes with an infant insert and will last you ages. We originally had a Mother's Choice carseat as a spare and Jack had outgrown it by about 18 months.

You can get some great bargains at [link removed - mods] as they sell selected seconds and discontinued stock
