Hello! Add Me!

December 3 - Gretch: Mummy to *T*

Sorry, don't want to invite stalkers, so T it is!

Sounds like you and Jamie are travelling well Framboise. You’ll have to excuse the brevity and lack of personals of my post - we came home Wednesday and our previously sleepy baby has changed!

I’m taking a while to adjust to everything; my body is completely foreign to me and does something weird and new every day (leaking left breast today)! As I may have alluded to in my announcement, the birth and days following were pretty traumatic and I’m trying to sort through those feelings as well as cope with a newborn. My husband has been fantastic though and at the moment, I’m just taking each hour as it comes.

T is very cute; he’s a hybrid of hubby and I as babies we think. I’m learning so much about him every day and can’t believe he’s here. It’s very surreal having a tiny human in the house. I hope to be able to share more and keep up with everyone’s news as time goes on.

Tis quiet in here laugh.gif Guess everyone is too busy with their bubbas?

To kick things off...here are some questions!

How is everyone recovering from labour and birth?

So far I feel really really good. I think I'm STILL on a high about how well the birth went. And I feel about a millions times better than I felt with Harry - I think having an instrument delivery with him really knocked me about. Maybe TMI...but it looks like my bleeding is slowing down too. I hope so as I am missing going swimming!!!!
Harry is being tricky going off to sleep right now so I'm lying on the floor for 15 mins or so while he drops off and have been doing my pelvic floors and pelvic tilts!!
Today I went to the mall wtih Mum to do some Xmas shopping and I lasted 5 hours laugh.gif So I must be recovering ok.

How are your babies feeding? OK? Any problems?

So far so good. Jamie feeds pretty quickly which I am pleased about. Usually 10-1 mins on the first side and if he is hungry takes the second for the same amount of time. At night I'm usually back to bed within 30 mins and that includes a half time nappy change. He settles really well after a feed, well, he usually falls asleep as he finishes. Although we have had a couple of unsettled periods after feeds in the past couple of days....hrmmm.. but generally all is good. AND he put on 540g in the first 7 days home so he is obviously taking enough on board!!!

How are you all going with the lack of sleep!!!??

Well, Mum is here right now so I can sleep in!! Jamie has been feeding at roughly 10pm and 3am or else 9pm, 1am and 5am BUT Harry usually wakes up at 6am huh.gif So she is taking him (after hubby heads off to work about 7am) and I am sleeping till about 8.30am. I'm also trying to sleep while Harry has his day nap from about 12-2pm and luckily so far Jamie has been sleeping then as well.
During the day Jamie seems to have a big 3+ hour nap in the middle of the day and then catnaps and feed every 2 hours or so from about 3pm till 7pm or so.

Those of you with more than one, how are your older ones coping with the new addtion?

I keep saying to everyone that Jamie is no problem it is Harry that is trouble!!! The poor boy is doing really well with the new arrival in the house but has got much more clingy. Although really, he has been great towards Jamie and has been helping with nappy change (an obsession with poo helps) and will put dirty nappies in the bin for me and helps with bum cream laugh.gif He also gives him kisses and is generally pretty good. BUT he has started biting and hitting me, often when I am BF Jamie. I'm finding this quite hard to deal with as I hate having to tell him off when I am holding Jamie... so we're working on that. Our other issue has been going off to sleep. He has always been able to self settle and in the past we just put him to bed and walked out. Since Jamie got home however we have to sit with him.... *sigh*. But I'm not going to tackle this till Jan when Geoff is home from overseas.

I'll talk to you Sarah! Hopefully the others find their way over here soon. I've tried to reply to this thread for two days now without success so fully understand the difficulties.

How is everyone recovering from labour and birth?
I'm still struggling a bit physically and emotionally. I had third degree tearing that required surgery so I'm trying not to expect too much, but it's literally a pain in the arse! Thanks for the reminder on the exercises though; I'll have to dig out the info the hospital gave me and get started.

How are your babies feeding? OK? Any problems?
Each day brings a new dilemma with feeding, but I'm really proud of myself for perservering. The nipple pain has largely subsided, but I'm still nervous about my supply. He's not settling as well after feeds anymore (is pretty good of a night though), but I'm relieved to see you say Jamie is a bit the same. The health centre nurse visits next week so hopefully she can give me more reassurance.

How are you all going with the lack of sleep!!!?
It gets me down a little, but I'm coping ok. I watch TV shows whilst I feed overnight because I'm terrified of falling asleep and crushing him - I also look forward to getting back into the episode I was halfway through!

I'm sorry if I still sound negative. I think I'm trying to stay positive in real life so much I need to whinge and moan here a little. I really am besotted by my little man though wub.gif .

Gretch and Smitten....so lovely to have company in here...I keep checking in and finally I have buddies!!!

Gretch, I'm so sorry that your birth was so traumatic. I hope you feel physically better soon. Please moan away..that is what this thread is all about. Having a new baby is such a HUGE life change that even the little things seems so crazy and unreal. We're all here together and here to help.
Gretch - hopefully you get your supply sorted. Jamie has really settled down again..I think it was just my milk coming in completely. I know if he is well fed as he just falls back to sleep after. Have you got the Baby Love book - the chapter on crying babies is really helpful.
Keep us updated smile.gif

Smitten, rest up lady!!!!! It is such twee advice but so important. I have had a rest when Harry is asleep since he was born, all through my pregnancy and again now. It just makes all the difference for your sanity.

Things are good here still. Jamie is still super sleepy which I am loving. He is the perfect second baby as he doesn't take up much time at all.... toddlers need SO much attention wacko.gif . Harry is also settling back again - he has pretty much stopped biting and hitting me and actually went to sleep tonight by himself. Yay!!
My Mum is only here 3 more days...so I'm trying to make the most of every minute of her here.

*smitten* - I'm a bit the same with resting when the baby sleeps...I should be resting now instead of being on here! I don't have any suggestions on what to get your obs - obviously a card with a lovely message would be nice; my obs keeps all the cards he gets on a massive pinboard in the waiting room. I wonder whether I should get mine a card considering he didn't make it to the birth! How is H sleeping now, any changes?

Framboise - hope you enjoyed the last few days with your Mum around. I'm so lucky to have Mum living only 30 minutes away. Has Harry continued to be more settled and adjusting to Jamie being around? We have 'Baby Love' and I really like it - her style is very non-judgemental and rational..both things I'm not at the moment!

The baby health nurse was here yesterday and she was lovely. She was very reassuring that we were doing a good job - Baby T has put on 670g since leaving hospital so he's certainly not starving! He's started to leak out of his disposables quite a bit (we are only doing cloth part-time at the moment until he grows into more of them)...I noticed the size up in Huggies starts at 4kg so maybe I should buy a pack of those. We've been lucky in that we haven't bought any disposable nappies yet as we were given a few packs that other people had left over.

What's happening Christmas Day for you guys? We've only bought Baby T one present - a taggies rattle! Merry Christmas to all if I don't get a chance to get on here tomorrow!

Well done baby T putting on so much weight!!!!!! Awesome news.
Sounds like you're doing ok Gretch smile.gif I love the Baby Love book for the same reason - she is so rational. Gives you all the options and never says 'this is the ONLY way'.
I keep meaning to buy Jamie a teddy for Xmas but haven't got one yet....yikes. Not sure now if it'll happen blink.gif

Bit sad here as Mum left this afternoon back to NZ sad.gif But Geoff is off work now so we have our team of four for Xmas. rolleyes.gif
