Hey everyone,

I am now starting to look at hair and make-up and was shocked that together it would be around $600-$800 for myself and my three bridesmaids. I was just wondering what sort of prices you ladies paid for your hair and make-up?

Is it better to get a company that does hair and make-up together? Any tips on how to find someone that will do a good job? I was also after some recs for hair and make-up on the Sunshine Coast. I am originally a Sunny Coast girl but moved to Bris a few years back and now I am out of touch with who is good and who isn't.

Would love to see pics of your make-up/hair too!

TIA

For me hair and make-up by the one person at the one spot worked, but I only had 3 of us total to get done and hair for one was so short it needed nothing almost. In any case hair and make-up together at the one place would be my preference, although I am sure lots of girls do seperate people. I would recommend The P0wder R00m and heard good things about Danielle R0binson, but not sure what costs are involved with them travelling, but would make your trials easy if you can get them done in Brissie.

Good luck!

We paid $165pp for hair and airbrushed makeup and it was so totally worth it because she was AMAZING!!
I think that hair and makeup are so important because it finalises the fantasy iykwim...its like the cherry on top, makes you feel like a princess.

I you arnt happy with how you look on your wedding day it will bring down the whole day!!

I would reccomend going through all of the previous work they have done and seeing if they are capable of doing what you had in mind, they may be good at doing formal up dos but not the messy romantic styles.

Here are some pics of my bridal party....i was so in love with it all!!

Hey hun... if the company is reputable & has a lot of great customer feedback then that price is not that bad... in my opinion. I had 3BM's, my mum & I & we paid around $1000 I think. The company we used is the best on the gold coast & they had won many awards along with working in major movies (you paid a bit extra for the hair n makeup team that were involved in the matrix, LOTR trilogy etc) ...
They also came to our house at 5.30 in the morning & easily put 3 solid hours in. Absolutely wonderful & could not fault them for a second.
Paying for peace of mind and absolute professionalism was priceless for me.
Having hair n makeup done by the same company also was perfect because they worked so efficiently with eavch other because they had done it so many times - they knew each when to step in & out.
This was my hair n makeup...

Thanks hun - my mum n I made that veil...wub.gif
Yes- I had a trial too... i paid the same amount as it would on the day because they spent more HOURS playing with eyeshadows n hairstyles than on the actual day smile.gif
Some places offer cheaper... but i didnt mind - PLUS I highly recommend doing it for peace of mind ALSO get it done on a special occasion - i did mine on my birthday - so i felt pampered n then when I went out I had gorgeous hair n makeup!

If you need anything further to put into perspective the value of spending on quality hair n makeup... think about how much you are spending on the rest of the day... and if you aren't feeling like you look like the absolutely most radiant bride at that moment then the rest of the day won't be enjoyed in the same magnitude!

Hi C, havnt seen you around in a while...i still love looking at your wedding pics <3

You dont usually need more than one trial unless you were totally unhappy with everything they have done.

I was really happy with my trial but alot of people commented on how my eyes looked like they needed a bit more oomph so i looked at the pictures and i agreed, so i asked her to make them a little more defined on the day,
I paid $100 for my trial but she added it to the final bill.

I can't suggest having a trial enough! I was completely unhappy with my first trial, even though the MUA assured me that on the day it would be great. She had a really professional look, however when she was doing my make up I got the feeling she hadn't been doing it long.I looked like ronald macdonald. And it cost me $80 for the trial.

I decided to have a trial with another MUA and I was completely satisfied. She did a great job, I felt gorgeous! And best of all, she only charges $70 per person on the day inc touch up kits for everyone and my trial was free!!! The mostr expensive isn't always the best.

For hair I am paying somewhere around $550, that is for me, 3 BM (one with super dooper long hair) , a flower girl and my Mum. My local hairdresser is going to travel an hour so there is travel time as inc as well. I am happy with that as she knows my hair.

It's not necessary for one stylist to do both hair and makeup, it's really your personal preferance. Have you had a look on this website for suppliers? Have a look at different portfolios and see what you like. You can also google.

I think it's been mentioned but travel fees may apply if your MUA/HD isn't from the Sunshine Coast so make sure you look around as different suppliers will have different fees.

Good luck biggrin.gif

I'm so torn at the moment.

My mother has suggested a local hairdresser that contracts a make-up artist for weddings. They can do all the hair and make-up for $145 p.p but have no recs and no website.

Or I can go with a make-up artist that is well known (has 9 years experience) and a hairdresser that is also well known and pay around $700 for both hair and make-up.

Should I have a trial at both?

My wedding is not until September, but I have booked both hair and makeup and these are the prices I will be paying:

Makeup = $110 p/p for airbrushed including travel and false eyelashes (if required).
Hair = $100 p/p including travel.

The hair trial was $100 and the makeup was $90, but both including multipled styles and lasted for quite a few hours. My Makeup lady wouldn't take a deposit until I had a trial, but she was prepared to save my date anyway until I was able to have a trial which was very decent.

I am also having three friends get ready with us, and since my two bridesmaids are interstate / international they have been tremendous in assisting me with everything and anything so as a thank-you I will be paying to get their makeup done as a thank-you.

If you can afford it I would have a trial at both. You can then compare and see which one works best for you, if the more expensive one is in your opinion worth the extra cost, or if the cheaper 'lesser known' is actually amazing and an amazing find.

That price probably isn't too bad really.

I ended up going with 2 separate artists just because they were the ones I liked. I made sure they both travelled so I didn't have to worry about going to two places.

I think all up ours would have cost $280 for make-up and $400 for hair for 4 of us.

I had a trial with both and would highly recommend it. It would be much better to spend the money and find out whether you'll be happy or not rather than finding out on your wedding day.
