Janelle, Lily doesn't really take to vegies on their own, so I tend to mash/finely grate them and make them into patties and she'll eat them that way. Fruit, depends what it is. Most fruit she likes and she also seems to have a sweet tooth.

I've decided that I'm not ready to have a toddler just yet! laugh.gif She is becoming more feisty every week. The latest it that she growls when something is happening that she doesn't like blink.gif I'm so unprepared for dealing with naughtiness and I just have no patience for it.

Lily has totally gone right off walking. She doesn't want to have a bar of it and when we prop her up to try and do it she'll lift her legs up and refuse and just go on her knees. Oh well, she'll get sick of crawling one day!

Hi everyone!

Sorry I forgot to let you all know I started a new thread in the 12-24 months section. I meant to come in here and let you know once I started it but got distracted by little ones tongue.gif I'm happy to move across when everyone else is smile.gif

Happy Birthday to all the babies who have turned one in the past 2 weeks! smile.gif

We've been a bit flat out the last few weeks with christenings, baby showers and birthdays! Louis' christening was last weekend and it went well. He didnt like having water poured on his head, poor little man. He still needs his two day sleeps and with all the excitement he didnt get one that morning and so he was extra grumpy. But he had a nap on the way to the reception venue and was happier again after that. I've loaded some of the ceremony pics on facebook and when I can track my sister down I'll post some more.

I mentioned a few weeks ago how Lou has one of his eye teeth growing up top. Now the other one is growing through! Before both his front teeth. He's starting to look like dracula laugh.gif

Otherwise he's crawling everywhere now, pulling himself up on furniture and moving around. I think it'll still be a while before he starts walking. He says a few words now - 'shoes' is his favourite (he just LOVES shoes blink.gif laugh.gif ) but he also says 'hello' when you give him a phone, 'boo', 'mum', 'dad', 'num', 'nana' for banana and 'no'. He has a better vocab than Annabelle did at this age.

How is everyone's Christmas shopping going? Ours is coming along but by no means is it finished. What is Santa bringing all the bubs this year?

Janelle - I think all you can do with the sippy cups is keep trying and no doubt one day he will decide he is ready to try it. I would just pick one and stick to it so he has the same one every time. I love the Nuby soft spout ones and the take n toss cups.

Sounds like his eating is going really well now too. It will be great if you get lots of teeth at once. Charlie's come through so slowly that you just get over one and the next one starts moving. Better to have all the crankiness over at once I say.

Ali - I hear you on the grumpiness. Charlie growls and grumps whenever things are not going his way. I think he is actually going to be worse than Cate was. Having said that his antics are nothing compared to Cate's current ones so I can ignore them most of the time. Let me just say that you will get well and truly used to a defiant, demanding, tantrum chucking toddler in no time :-) My advice is to try and introduce boundaries as early as possible and be consistent with them. They know and understand more than we think.

Hayli - saw Lou's christening photos. Loved the one of Annabelle patting him on the back whilst he was upset :-) Sounds like his speech is going really well too.

Charlie's one day sleep is going so so. Some days he will have 2 hours which is just enough. Ohter days he will have 1hr 20min which is definitely not enough. Have just moved the time out a bit more so will give that a week and see what happens then move it out again. Most people I speak to say they dont get consistent 2-2.5 hour sleeps untilt he sleep time is at around 12pm.

Can't believe he officially turns 1 tomorrow. With his party last weekend his actual birthday has sort of been forgotten. I have a couple of little presents to give him though and might grab a cupcake or something.

I still have a horrid cough. Am on antibiotics now as the GP thinks I might have developed a secondary bacterial infection. She said most viral infections peak after a few days and are starting to disapate by Day 5-7. Mine is almost at 2 weeks. So sick of it.

We have my niece babysitting tonight so that we can go out to dinner and watch the new Harry Potter movie. I can't wait. I LOVE Harry Potter. Then we have The Wiggles concert this weekend too with Cate. This is the 3rd year I have bought tickets but only the first time I get to go. The first time Cate was sick, 2nd time I was in hospital with Charlie. SO looking forward to that too.

Yeah we try to stick to the Avent sippy cups with the white sipper top. Reason for this is at daycare they assure me that he drinks water from it. however today the cup hasnt been used, and I can tell that, so im cranky, and cofused. Ive been thinking they have been lying about him using it, maybe I was right... dry.gif Im going to get all the cups I have and choose one to stick to, to stop the confusion.

Ive had the cough too. My DH got it from a workmate, then gave it to me, and Ive now spread it through a few people at work too. It lasts for weeks and is horrible. At its peak I was coughing for 2 hours in bed before finally being able to go to sleep. In the end I started using the inhaler type thing that was prescribed to my DH for his cough, and it seemed to help get rid of it. Now his cough seems to be coming back! unsure.gif

Happy Birthday for Charlie tomorrow!

Janelle - JJ never took to a sippy cup until ages later. He actually found a straw cup much easier to use. Emme doesn't drink from hers much at all. She chews on it and gets water in her mouth and then spits it out *sigh*. She wears more than she drinks.

Sara - Yay for the movie! We are looking forward to going to see it too! Yay for the Wiggles! We are going on the 14th. I can't wait!

Emme tries to "talk" so much. She chats and chats like she is having a full conversation with us but there it is all gibberish LOL. It is SO cute! Sometimes I think she says something. I think she says "gogo" for yoghurt (it is also used for "look look" LOL) and she comes out with "no no no" occasionally. She tries to copy JJ quite a bit which is very cute. He looks for her and and makes a whistle kind of sound which to them means "lets play chasings". Emme is being very fussy with her food but I'm just taking it in my stride. I must make some more patties to get vegies into her. She will eat any meat but vegies and fruit are a no go!

Christmas - I'm pretty much all done. I'm hoping a raincheck comes in at Target before Christmas for Emme. I have a Jessie doll from Toy Story as she just loves JJ"s Woody doll. I also have a blow up ball pit and a few small things. I do feel a bit slack for her as JJ is getting some big things but there really isn't anything she could have. I think I'll just wait until after Christmas and see if anything stands out in the sales. I have NO idea what to get for DH sad.gif and I never do. He is really hard to buy for.

Happy birthday to Charlie for tomorrow!

Janelle- I was also about to suggest trying a straw, or even moving straight to a cup? Just in tiny amounts to start with. Maybe as it heats up he will realise what's going on, as he might get thirstier. I too like the Nuby ones, it took months of trying Daniel is only starting to
drink a bit now.

Cam- You're so good having finished your shopping- I've got Daniel's stuff but that's it so far.

Sara- Have fun at Harry Potter tonight, I loved it! We're going to the Wiggles on the 18th- Daniel is going to be beside himself he absolutely loves them.

Hayli- How funny about his teeth! That's so cute...he sounds like his language is going really well.
It's been so long since I bought D's Christmas presents I can't remember exactly what I bought- a bike thing where he gets strapped in, a walker, an activity table and a few smaller things.

Ali- I'm sure in no time you'll develop a bit more patience out of necessity laugh.gif Daniel gets so angry if he doesnt like what's happening, he's going to be a fearsome toddler.

We have the nuby soft spout sipper cup and is the only one we have and she's just had to learn to drink from it. I find it's too difficult for Lily to use on her own, she can't lift it up high enough. She does drink out of it well though, but she hands it to me or points to it for me to help her drink it. Am now looking around for a reasonably priced straw bottle for her to try next. Have seen some in Target but will wait until they're next on sale (which they seem to have every few weeks!)

Poor Lily had a vomit attach yesterday morning sad.gif She woke up, I gave her her breastfeed and as soon as she sat up from that she did a bit vomit. She then vomited several times more that morning. Then she was fine and eating that afternoon, so not sure what caused it all but glad she's feeling better now. Was so horrible seeing her so upset and so weak she could hardly sit upright.

Any recommendations for a suction bowl? Lily likes to try to feed herself, but if I put the bowl on her tray she tries to upend it! Or should I not bother and just teach her to not do it?

Ali - I think suction bowls are a must. Even when they are older and not deliberately trying to upend the bowl it happens. I got some that are pretty good but haven't found any that suction really really well. The ones I got were a 3 pack - small, medium and large. Just from Target. They have lids so you can use them out and about. I still use them for Cate if she is having something with liquid ie cereal with milk.

Hope Lily is 100% better now.

Xmas shopping - I have been done for months and have to keep stopping myself from buying more. I hate trying to shop close to Xmas. Just way too busy.

Well, I can't believe Charlie is 1 today. I actually forgot - oops. Matt remembered before me. He got a couple of presents this morning and am going to grab a cupcake to have a little celebration later today.

Sara- a bit OT but I was looking for some advice in my SOS book about when to switch to cow's milk and I can't find it in there, but then I remember you said something about it. Is it in the toddler version of the book (which I don't have)? If so, and you don't mind, could you tell me her reasons for delaying cows' milk til later?

I've got those same bowls- I actually think the suction is quite good, that's if you've got a platic high chair tray like we have here.

On Xmas shopping, I actually went today to get our layby out that had Daniel's birthday and Christmas gifts. He's getting:
- Birthday: a FP activity table, a Richard Scarry book set, a PS hammer and nail toy, and a musical learning tambourine.
- Christmas: a smart trike and a Dr Seuss collection.

I actually had more but returned $120 worth of stuff on the spot as I think (know!) I went a bit overboard back in July- a few things I'd actually bought similar things since as he's grown.
Instead I might buy him one more very small thing for his birthday like a puzzle or something and maybe 3 more very small things for Christmas, so he gets 5 items on each day.

Ali- Hope Lily is back to herself!

I have an exciting announcement: Daniel too his first steps today, exactly a week before his birthday!!! I am so proud wub.gif

Simone - yep it is in the toddler book. She recommends sticking to breastmilk or formula until 14 months but doesn't really say why. Just that they still need the nutrients from BM/formula until around that age. She also says that she has seen many babies start to wake during the night or 40min after going to sleep once they start on cows milk. Doesn't know why but has just seen the link happen quite regularly. So if that happens stop the cows milk and try again in a month or 2. So her timeline goes:

Under 14 months : BM or formula
14-18 months :BM, formula or cows milk
18-24 months : full fat cows milk
24 months + : full or reduced fat cows milk

Also says over 12 months should not have more than 400ml of milk a day. So basically saying not all calcium requiements need to come from milk - look for other ways to get calcium in.

Hope that answers your question.

And way to go Daniel with the walking. I can't believe some of these bubs are walking already. We will be waiting awile for Charlie I think.

Thanks heaps Sara for that info and the birthday wishes as well smile.gif

TBH lately there has been so much going on I haven't had a lot of time to keep up. Though with Daniel's party out of the way tomorrow things should improve soon. We are ok apart from being over-busy.

Shall we move over?

Yep - time to move over to our new thread I think. As much as I know I don't want anymore kids I am a little sad I won't be in the "First 12 Months" section again :-(
