Hi Girls,

I'm starting to consider buying my makeup for the wedding and doing it myself.
I've heard about a few girls on here going to Myer & David Jones about makeup trials but I don't know what the feedback is like?

Also, what type of makeup should a person with natural redheir (I bleach it blonde), blue eyes and fair skin ... well I tan easily in summer and I've already started tanning (I've got nice bikini lines ATM) go for? I don't want anything over the top as I'm not really into makeup and something that suits summer/autumn.

Ok gotta run before I get in trouble.

i was considering doing this but then i didnt want to fuss around just wanted to sit back and be lazy looool. i think the myer or david jones counters are ok but choose a make up that is good i think most make up artists use MAC or companies that are heavier in make up so it lasts longer etc

with fair skin u would have a foundation according to your complexion and i think it would be softer looking colours rather than the harsh tones u see on some brides.

im sure ull look beautiful!

A lot of girls use MAC, some use Napoleon.

I know MAC does trials and you can redeem it with products (not sure how much though), which would suit you want to do your own make up.

Some of the make up artists at these counters also do make up privately as well, so that's another option if you end up getting your make up done.

One tip if you do your own make up, make sure you don't get foundation or powder with the reflective stuff in it. It will make you look very pale in photos using flash. I know Napoleon has a specific range (Camera Finish) for this and I'm sure MAC will too.

I have gone to Myers and DJ's for make up before attending events. I think it is a great idea...but I have found that it seems to look very packed on. I have also had make up done by a proper make up place and they did a far better job.

I would just pay the money and get a fully trained professional to do it. I am not sure that all of the people who work at the counters are overly experienced.

Thanks for all the advice smile.gif

I'm thinking about going into Myers in the city and trying the MAC range. If I don't like it I'll venture back another day and try another brand (I have a couple of napoleon products already and there ok); I guess with having this trial the girl could give me step by step instructions too.

I would like to have a personal makeup artist where I'm getting married however, its wedding season down there and many of the artist are already booked or MAJORITY dont work on sunday's which posses a huge problem for us. Photography wise, it will be either a friend taking our pictures or myself (we are both photographers) which will be used in natural light - eekk flash! Ana, thanks so much for the advice on that.

No worries Nae. The trial will give you a good idea of what to expect, and you can get some new make up at the same time and experiment at home.

My MUA works at David Jones at the M.A.C counter. She is brilliant, I have my trial in store and redeem my products and then she is coming to me on the day smile.gif I think it depends which make up brand you wish to use but most of them are trained make up artists.

Hope this helps.

Not sure about Myer and DJ's sorry, but one place you could try is Mecc@ Cosmetic@? You can often get a make-up trial done effectively for free as they will charge say $100 but you then get to redeem than money (on the same day) in the store so you can buy make-up to that value. They do a fantastic job there and have most of the well known brands. Plus you can mix and match and not have to use just the one brand if that makes sense?

I ended up booking my make-up artist for our wedding from there, she was FANTASTIC and I could not recommend them highly enough!!

Good Luck!
