Hi everyone,

I'd like to have my wedding dress made and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a couture shop or designer/dressmaker who is plus size friendly or experienced in making plus size gowns in Melbourne.

I'm around size 18-20 and keen to have my gown designed and made to measure however from what I've heard I am very intimidated and not sure if designers would cater for plus sizes. My size 8 sister in law went shopping for her gown to some of the Armadale designers, she said a lot of the sample dresses were a very tight squeeze even for her. So I'm quite scared of walking into some places and being looked down on because of my size and/or turned away.

Has anyone had a good experience with designers or dressmakers that you could recommend?

I've heard great things about both Annette of Melbourne and Pamela Nelson. IMHO any couturist worth their salt should be able to design for any shape or size, so I don't think there's any need to feel intimidated.

Let us know how you go biggrin.gif

Are you specifically looking for couture or are you just looking for a dressmaker that can make a dress to what you want?

If you don't specifically want couture I recommend Marianna Hardwick. Her dresses are AMAZING. She's at Brunswick.

Good luck!!

I've PM'd you some places where I tried dresses on and had great experiences. I would suggest you try on some styles before settling on a design to be made, you would be surprised what actually looks good on you.

Good Luck smile.gif

I personally had a bad experience with this shop - they were one of the ones who wouldn't let me try anything on because of my size sad.gif

Pity cause I loved her dresses and styles.
