Or as I like to call them "Way to prevent Odin from getting too far away from me"

Odin has found his crawling feet in a big way, I think he's gonna be up and around walking very very soon. And I know that when that happens its gonna be All Walking, All the Time.

And I don't want to lose him, especially in crowded shopping centres, so am considering safety harnesses. Or Leashes.

I'm just looking for recommendations and advice here -

1. with the bag ones;
1a. Do you actually USE the bag?
1b. Does the clip come undone so easily that someone could grab your kid and clip the leash to something else and be gone before you realise?

2. Are the 5 point ones a bugger to put on and take off with clothing?

3. Is the wrist one easy for the child to slip out of?

4. Can the child twist their arm with the wrist one?

5. Where did you get yours?

Anything else I should know?

I am childless at the moment but I was just discussing these with my friend who is pregnant with number two. She has one that you can clip at the side, back and front and highly recommends this one.

i have the monkey back pack bag one and it helps keep my 2 year old safe. we dont actually use the bag but i am sure one day we will when she discovers it herself. the clip is not able to be undone by my child and it is located at the botom of the monkey - i would think it near impossible for another person to unclip it. very easy to put on. got ours from bambinipronto website.

it doesnt actually allow me to do my stuff though as isabelle just takes off and pulls against it and if i dont follow she just lies down on the ground.. it does give me peace of mind though as i know she can only go so far and is safe. she loves to run!

Thanks girls.

Ariel - was there a link to where she got that from?
Sam Lou - I think Odin will be the same.

We have the monkey bag one as well. We got it from k-mart - they have the same ones as bambini pronto but less range.

Will likes doing up the buckles so doesn't mind having it on - he's good with all harnesses etc.

It only has a short tail so I can't see him ever getting far enough away from me that someone could undo it and take him. It certainly (as loulou said) doesn't help me get things done - he just pulls against it.

I usually hold his hand when we are walking and he is pretty good. We have strict rules about holding hands near roads/car parks etc.

I like the harness because it means if we are out shopping or something and I need two hands for a moment to do something I can do it and know he can't run too far. I wasn't looking forward to chasing him when I was heavily pregnant.

We're getting one of the monkey backpack things, will let you know how it goes. Eva needs to walk everywhere now and will just sit down on the spot and throw a tantrum if I try to make her hold my hand when she doesn't want to!

we have the monkey one and sometimes I clip it the other way around (clips at the back and Monkey at the front) and Ryan cuddles the monkey! Very cute.

AS for having it on his back it is good for keeping him close when he wants to walk and we are in a dangerous area (ie: near a busy road, in the city and when we were seeing all the cliffs along the Great Ocean road).

ooh I will keep watch of this thread! Jacks a bit heavy now, and loves walking everywhere, its a pain when I take in the pram and he just wants to walk after 5 mins in it! He is pretty good holding my hand, and does like to stop and stare at different people or things, but hes is quite good, its just a r.e.a.l.l.y slow shopping trip laugh.gif I am still thinking about whether or not to get a harness! He is really short, and it can be a bit hard to hold his hand alot of the time! (even though I am short too!)

I've got a cow. It sounds similar to the monkeys. See here:

We love it, can't speak any more highly of it. It doesn't cut in at all and it's really easy to take on and off.

we have one that is a little back pack - i dont use the bag but hubby often puts his wallet and keys in there when he has Abby. Its nice to know that they jsut can't run off - which Abby is starting to do. We will use the back pack a little more to store things in as she gets older - at the moment I feel bad making her carry her on things.

I got ours from the local baby shop - they had a four different styles to choose from.

We decided against the teddy/monkey/soft toy ones as I could imagine Abby running in circles trying to hug the teddy on her back.

I've never actually considered getting one of these, but see that it could come in handy. I'm sure my husband would hate to hear this though laugh.gif

Taylor is still mostly in her pram, with stints out of the pram. But it could be very useful on the days we go to Dreamworld.
