I know there is probably nothing I can do but I thought I would ask incase someone has come up with something.

Zack climbs on everything he can, he pulls his toys over to things he wants and climbs up on them so he can reach something. Yes I have moved things off the benches so there will be nothing that he wants but now he has decided it will just be fun to get on the lamp table etc. and stand up on it. He can get on the lounge without climbing on anything and then proceeds to stand up on it and walk around. He is going to fall very soon and knowing my luck he will break something then I can just imagine the sh!t MIL would give DH (she is a witch for those that haven't heard some of my rants about her). But most of all I don't want him to hurt himself.

Is there anything I can do? I can't be by his side 24/7.

Oh my goodness I can completely identify.

My IL's live on a cliff and we are moving there shortly while our reno's are being done. I have recurring nightmares about the three cascading balconies rolleyes.gif

He was climbing out of his cot / portacot since 17 months or so. He has been climbing trees and all the big-kid climbing things for months.

Added bonuses - a curious cat and complete wanderer who won't even look back. Secondly, he LOVES cars and the road so runs TOWARDS roads at any chance he gets. Thirdly, he is tall for his age. God help me.

With the exception of empathy (ha!) unfortunately what I offer is not much:

1. 24/7 care is required. I'm noticing every child has something. My BF little boy is biting so 24/7 care is required. My other friend's little boy is allergic to nuts so out and about 24/7 care is required.

2. I talk to him a lot about danger of the road and how he could hurt himself. Emphasising the "danger" word. I talk about how he would cry if he was hurt and mummy would be very sad and / or cross. He repeats it back to me in his own way and I have seen a slight improvement but still.........

3. Once I was on the phone and he'd climbed up on the change table. I think he was trying to get from the change table to the tall boy dresser and he fell off. I heard him crying knowing the type of cry - he got a fright but hadn't seriously hurt himself. I decided to leave him him there for a bit ph34r.gif and then went in and had a good talk with him and that stopped it for about 2 months. But it started again this morning.

4. The only other thing I will say is be very very clear with anyone who looks after him. For example IL's etc. Sometimes if I am at the park with friends I might have to duck to the loo and when they say they'll watch him I always say "Thanks but please be warned he will DEFINITELY run towards the road".

Lately I've been considering smacking him for running towards the road. He got a BIG telling off this morning for "escaping" from my hand and running onto the road. It was too difficult to instigate the sin-bin - our version of time-out - because I was carrying lots of things. Also, this time he happened to trip off the curb and hurt himself on the gravel. The evil part of me wanted to tell him it was "Karma".

Sigh.

No advice but maybe a suggestion of giving him lots of opportunities to climb safe things so you can say to him "remember when we go to the soft play centre we climb, but we don't climb in the house" etc. Take him to the park - somewhere he can use all that energy in a positive way smile.gif

Hehe.

I think a spammer bumped this. I was quite confused wondering why Lena was so worried about Zack when he is 3 and a half already!

Especially when she mentioned "He can get on the lounge without climbing on anything"!

LOL yes must have been a spammer, Zack has been able to get on the lounge for quite some times now tongue.gif . Little did I know Zack has nothing on Ashton when it comes to climbing. Zack still loves climbing so god help me when Ashton gets to 3.5.
