We need to get married during the school holidays (I am a teacher) and the 6 week summer holiday break seems to be the best time.

It is still very hot.
I just went to Fiji a month ago and even though it was in October nearly everyday was overcast.
I think you will just have to chose a place that you want to go to and hope the weather is nice!
PS I went to Thailand in August last year and the weather was lovely, but a few showers.

when we were in fiji, it rained a bit but some nights it was fun..because we would race back to our room and it would be torrential rains... thunder, lightning... ( i like storms when i am with fh though)
Don't know your budget but have you considered hawaii???
its their winter but not cold..
ps we are getting married in january 2010 too! as its the only time we can do it as well...and were wanting to do an island honeymoon... hamilton is the last place we looked at, but we have a while to choose!!

We have also been to Thailand and Malaysia over January and it is great weather in both places at that time (Phuket and Sabah)Not all places in those countries will be good so you will need to check.
Any questions let me know. You will have a ball anywhere you decide to visit

We've opted to go to Hawaii, 5 days in Honolulu and 5 days in Maui. It's winter in Hawaii, but the climate seems fairly warm and pleasant year round.
We also looked at Phuket, as it's currently their dry season, but due to recent airport closures and instability in Thailand decided against it.
It's also the dry season in the Maldives, which would have been my preferred option, but we decided to go somewhere we could use our frequent flyers.

I have been to Bali in January - hated it - just tooo hot for me personally.
Got engaged in Hawaii and have been there in January and the weather is divine - just gorgeous.
January is also meant to be great weather for the maldives and for mauritius.
Wherever you go you will have a fantastic time
