I always cry in The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.

Another one is Elton John's American Triangle - a very sad, powerful song.

What song (if any) always or has made you cry?

The day you went away by Wendy Matthews

I still think that is one of the most perfect songs.
1000 Miles Away by Jewel. You can hear the desperation in her voice. It's a song for anyone who has been so ridiculously in love that it makes you feel hollow.

Hello in There by Bette Midler. It kills me every time, I have had to stop listening to it. About the loneliness of growing old. 'We lost a baby in the Korean War, I still don't know what for, don't matter any more'

Amie by Damien Rice. It's such a quiet, sad little song. It reminds me of how I always feel on Christmas Night, or after my birthday . . . not disappointed, but reflective and resigned to time marching on and everything and not much changing.

I am a sucker for a sad song, so I have many, many more, but I should stop now!

I love his rendition of Hallelujah.

I also adore him singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow live at the Paladium during his Judy Garland tribute. He is accompanied by his mum.

I have to say that I actually love Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's version of this song.. They played this on ER (or was it Chicago's Hope?) when the dr with the glasses died of cancer I believe??

Reduces me to tears everytime I hear this song.

Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell

People may know it from the Love Actually soundtrack.

There are others but I think I've avoided most of them for years.

Oh yes, Hallelujah is a sad song, the version they played in Shrek especially. I also agree about Heaven by DJ Sammie. They played it once for a memorial of Sept 11.

I always found You'll Never Walk Alone a sad sounding song. Not sure why.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Art Garfunkel. It's such a sad tune!!!

Candle in the Wind (1997) - Elton John

Learn to be Lonely (Phantom sound track)

Kir The Living Years makes me cry too! It reminds me of my late father, as he used to say it reminded him of his realtionship with his father.

Woman by John Lennon - it was my mum and dad's wedding song, and it was also played at his funeral when I ws 8.

Better Man - Robbie Williams. One of my closest friends died when we were 19 and it was his favourite - he asked for it to be played at his funeral and every time I hear it I think of him.

There are more, but these are my top 3 that I can think of off the top of my head.

Time to say goodbye - Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. Such an amazing soul stirring song.

Only Time -Enya. I've been known to cry in my car listening to this song. She has such a unique voice and talent.

'Somewhere over the rainbow' - Israel Kamakawiwo Ole version. It was our wedding song, the first time I heard it was the day after we got engaged and it always reminds me of a really happy time in my life.

Graduation (friends forever) - Vitamin C.
I'm not a huge fan of this song but it always reminds me of my last year at highschool and depresses the hell out of me. Such good memories.

Pachelbel's canon - This is a piece obviously not a song but I've loved this since I was a kid and would listen to it on repeat. It's such a shame that it's been used by every bride and groom in recent years because it's commercialised it...IYKWIM?

Gosh that songs another tear jerker! When I was little living in NZ they used that song in a police ad which showed domestic abuse.

I totally agree that this is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. I have loved it for years.
I don't agree with your comment about brides using it... I think its an amazing piece and I loved the fact that I walked down the isle to this piece it brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.... It bought tears to my eyes long before my wedding. It just made is all the more special for me... wub.gif wub.gif

My few top songs would be...

1) Songbird ~ Eva Cassidy

2) Wonderful tonight ~ Eric Clapton

3) Butterfly Kisses ~ Bob Carlise

4) The luckiest ~ Ben Folds

5) Bryan Adams & Barbra Streisand ~ I Finally Found Someone

6) Eric Clapton ~ Tears in Heaven

7) Incomplete ~ Backstreet boys - I can't even have this one on my IPOD.... this song was played at my sisters daughters funeral (my niece)... god I have tears flowing now just typing this....

Music plays a HUGE part in my life and I love that I can get so caught up in a song and show such emotion.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I didn't mean to diss brides who chose this as their walk down the aisle, in fact we're in the same boat as it was our song too. smile.gif
