Are you in an area where you could join a temp agency which would get you work? I find it's very flexible for your appt's etc and you won't have the stress of telling new employers about the time off.

That is another option we are considering, well more of a back up plan!

QUOTE(Tazz @ Sep 30 2008, 04:52 PM) View Post

And if financially you are also unsure, it may be worth considering that by waiting an extra 7-8 weeks (oh boy help us that the end of the year is only 14 odd weeks away ohmy.gif ) it will put you into the new year and the start of the safety net, so if you require more than one cycle you will get that benefit and not be as much out of pocket.

that is also another reason for waiting. I have to keep reminding myself that it may take more than one go before something happens.

Thanks for the responses, there are so many reasons to wait and at the same time so many reasons to start right away, so we have some thinking to do!

great thread. I haven't started IVF yet but am about to start Clomid. I consider that as AC but justed wanted to check?

Of course you can join in Lissy Loo - this thread is certainly relevant for those on clomid and doing OI, IUI, IVF, ICSI and everything else involved in assisted conception.

Zelda, can I ask where you are at in your treatment?

Hi Rachael. I had one embie transferred at our first FET yesterday (having done 2 IVF cycles previously - 1 cancelled and 1 BFN). So just started the TWW.

Before I get too far into this post I just want to say first of all that having been through 5 cycles of IVF and now being on the other side, I would love to be able to help out with any queries / questions anyone may have or just be able to offer support, but at the same time understand that some of you may prefer to only have those currently going through the process in this thread (and in which case I guess a separate question sub thread would have it's merits if you wanted to keep this as more of a chat/support thread).
So I guess in short, would love to pop in every now and then if wanted, but totally understand if not! smile.gif

Tazz hun I'm sure your wonderful support and advice would be extremely welcome in here. wub.gif

Thank you for starting this thread smile.gif

Ive been through 2 full stim cycles and 1 FET since April, unfortunately all BFN.
Lately I have been some time out after our last disasterous cycle (6 eggs , 1 fertilized ), I just needed to step away and do some living again, it just seemed I was waiting my life away (if that makes sense), - waiting for AF, awaiting for scans, waiting for fertilization results....well you get the idea rolleyes.gif

We are giving ourselves 2 months off , so I will be back on the rollercoaster in around 5 weeks.

Im also here to answer any questions , if I can.

Hello & welcome to everyone smile.gif

Sierra, I understand about forgetting to live - ttc just takes up all your energy. My frst OI cycle was cancelled due to a mistake, and I was so upset, but it was actually really good to have some 'non ttc' time to ourselves. I hope the break means great results next time.

All the best with the tww Zelda.

I'm sure your advice will be vey useful Tazz smile.gif

Such a big descision Tania, good luck!

I am off to a scan tomorrow morning, I'm on day 14 of an OI cycle so I have a BT & scan to see if it is working. I don't really hold out much hope this cycle and the levels weren't very high last week, but they have doubled my dose so fingers crossed. Is anyone else doing injections with gonal-f (or similar)?

Ahh, I have a home. biggrin.gif

Thanks for starting this thread Zelda. Sending positive thoughts and wishes your way for the TWW.

As for why I'm here, well we know we're going straight to ICSI because Stephen had a vasectomy 21 years ago and ICSI is the only way we can conceive a child naturally. We've done the preliminary tests but aren't looking at starting the process until mid 2009, so I'll be a lurker (and information gathering machine) more than a poster up until that point (I hope that's ok?). But just wanted to pop in and say hi nonetheless. smile.gif

So me and my Dh are most likely going to be starting IVF when the first Af arrives in the new year. My FS said that all up for the cycle incl meds and the day surgery place im looking at paying just shy of 10k upfront. ohmy.gif

I dont have PHI. So i think i may get around 3 - 3 1/2K back, does that sound right?

Is that the going rate? Ive read people paying less upfront, and im a little confused.

Jenelle, it really depends on the clinic your with. I did my 1st cycle with SYDIVF ILLAWARRA and i was close to 10000 upfront cause i dont have PHI either. We ended up getting just under $4000 back, so was extremely expensive. At that time we were extrememly naive and thought that the 1st go would work. How wrogn were we, i remember waking up being told i had 21 eggs, and the girl next to me had 7, i remember thinking god im so lucky, then the next day i was called to say 1 fertilized. I remember seeing the same lady at transfer and she had all of her fertilize sad.gif

ANyways, we ended up changing clinics to westmead, where you pay your Out of pocket cost only and sign a million medicare forms, medicare then sends you a cheque for the remainder which you pass on to the clinic. There for a normal IVF it is $1400 and then once you reach the safety net, you get 80% of that entire amount back as it is your out of pocket.
Is there any other clinics around you? We travel over 2 hours to our clinic, and IMO it is worth it for the difference in costs

Morning,

I was wondering if you ladies who have started AC in some form could list the costs associated with each treatment? I think this would be a great help to those of us who are going to go down this path. This might help with the questions that Janelle has below.
So far my costs have only been a $290 inital FS consultation of which i got $95 back from Medicare. I have spend a couple of thousand on Natural therapies aswell
Janelle have you registered for the Medicare safety net? You will get 80% back after you reach the $1058 threshold in the calendar year.

I also thought we could start a status list so we know where we are all at:

Lissy Loo - TTC #1 Cycle 2 - Naturopath/Accupuncture - FS appoint 4th Oct

This was the exact reason we had to have ICSI also so if you ever have any questions feel free to PM me..

We went through Westmead also, which only charges you as an ourpatient (which is how they keep the costs down and the remainder through medicare)

For those paying nearly $10000, you will get some back from Medicare, but don't forget once you have spent over $1500 net of medical expenses you can claim it through your tax at the end of the financial year... Hopefully it might help..

I might just pop my place in here too, we are looking at a transfer with our frostie about June.

We are not preparing ourselves for another full cycle, if our frostie does not take.

Janelle, ETA in 2006, when we went through the cycles I think we came in costing us about $7000 all up, so I think your figure sounds about right? It is so confusing! I know at tax time though it certainely helped bring my bill down as well.

Renee` I didn't know you were going to use your frostie...fingers crossed. wub.gif

We are still on our break. I was only thinking this morning when we will go for our next transfer but I don't know??? Part of me is thinking just wait and the other part is thinking "what if they don't thaw again and I am left with nothing" sleep.gif

I don't mean to scare newcomers to IVF/ICSI but I had to get that out.

I think that sums IVF up perfectly, you do feel like you're waiting your life away. I really hope you can enjoy your break & pamper yourself.

A big factor in putting off our next IVF cycle is delaying that "forever waiting" feeling. Although, now I am starting to feel like I won't be able to wait the 5/6 months until we have decided to start. Decisions, decisions.

Hi renee, our only option is QFG in toowoomba.

Thanks for the replies about the costs, it seems the figure ive been given sounds about right then, but gees its alot hey.

I have registered for the safety net, but im looking ahead and in the case we need more than 1 cycle, i want it to be worth my while, IYKWIM. So i figure we wait till new year, new safety net.

That may or may not make sense i dont know, but either way we will have to borrow the money to do IVF (as much as i dont want to).

I have absolutely all my bits crossed for you sweetheart!!

Angel Canon, good luck for the scan, I don't really know anything about OI, are they monitoring your ovulation to then try a natural conception? I had Gonal F my first cycle & then Puregon for all the rest, conbined with the delighfully awfull Synarel nasal spray.

Decembergirl, we were in a similar situation where we knew IVF/ICSI was the only option due to hubby having absence of the vas tubes, rergardless of anything to do with me. At least them having to have a biopsy to retreive the sperm means they get some inkling into what we have to put our bodies through! wink.gif

Janelle, 10K upfront blows me away! I thought it was exxy in Vic sad.gif

Lissy Loo, where in Melb are you going? All clinics seem to have their own structure of fees, I was with Melb IVF, and while I can't remember exact amounts right now (think I've tried to void the memory from my mind) my last cycle was about $5000 up front, but I was over the safety net already from a previous cycle in the year so ended up out of pocket approx $1500. I was a private patient so I didn't have any extra surgery fees either though.

We are going through Melbourne IVF aswell. I have had one appoint 4 weeks ago where she got me to take Progesterone to bring on AF ( as i hadn't had it in 4 months) and then my 2nd appoint is Friday. I think she is going to do another scan probably to see if i have O'd ( which i am sure i haven't) and then to talk about Clomid i guess. We have some extra hurdles aswell as Hubby's Semen analysis came back and it wasn't great. low count at 11 million and 94% abnormal forms. We have both been seeing a naturopth for a while now so hopefully all of the herbs and vitamins he is taking has built up the spermies. I'm not sure how long we should try Clomid but i guess i will know more on Friday.

good luck everyone!!
