that having the BF section in the first 12 month section is a little misleading wink.gif

I don't actually have a genuine issue with it, esp as we are still under 12 months here, I just find it interesting that there is an assumption that breastfeeding only occurs up to 12 months of age when in fact the WHO (and a range of other bodies in Australia) recommend it up to least age 2.

Your thoughts? I know there are some women in here BF beyond 12 months, so this section isn't in their own forum IYKWIM.

(I'm not suggesting it be moved, just wanted to say something when I noticed!)

Good point. Maybe general baby is a better spot for it? Although, TBH, I am just glad it exists at all - and it will probably get more use in here as new mums hang out a lot in the first 12 months section, and Mums of older kids who are still BFing will know this is the spot where it's located IYKWIM?

Yeah thats what I figured.

Although people who are BF during pg, tandem feeding or BF older babies/children also need support.

Agreed. Maybe a pinned link in the other sections would help?

I think it makes sense to have them altogether, though, whatever section they're in. I know I'd like to read more on tandem and BF older babies/children, though!

Actually I thought it would be better just titled "feeding" (or tummy filling laugh.gif) so that it does not differentiate between the types of feeding. smile.gif

I thought this section should be under 'general baby talk' rather than the first 12 months.

What about the other key word in the topic? Nutrition...

How about a topic for those of us who tried breastfeeding, failed miserably, was made to feel bad b/c of it, put bubs on to formula, was made to feel bad, or starve my child?

Congrats to those who did manage to breasfeed successfully but in my case my milk was gone in 6 weeks and there was nothing I could do about it. Yes, I tried everything...

Breastfeeding isn't the only option out there...it's about nourishing your child and having them thrive.

Both sides need support IMO. And the need for support certainly continues beyond 12 months.

Well said.

I was a bit put off when I saw breastfeeding had been singled out, nothing like making bottle feeders feel even more inadequate. Not everyone can breastfeed (I certainly couldn't, despite heroic efforts to keep it going, beyond a couple of months). It would be nice if the section was just called "feeding" or "breast/bottle feeding and nutrition."

As for where it has been put, true not everyone stops breastfeeding or bottle feeding after 12 months, those who can continue beyond that point no doubt do so. I suppose in the first 12 months pretty much everyone is either breast or bottle feeding, whereas after that point it becomes less certain that everyone would still continue. It is recommended, but many things are, individual circumstances vary and not everyone's circumstances fit into the WHO ideal of how things should be done. JMO. Am not too invested in it either, but I felt more put off by the title than the placement of the section.

Maybe the title should be changed definately, and location.
Although I think Breastfeeding needs it's own set help.

There is a difference between the two forms of feeding, and this is from a woman who failed miserably at breastfeeding, and still has my heart pang when I see/read about another woman who can successfully feed. I wish everyday it was me.

I wish my head wasn't so hazy, after Kaele, and I could of come fast a quick to a breastfeeding area to read up, and I concentrated more on breastfeeding when pregnant, and didn't assume that I would be fine.

Breastfeeders need a whole lot of support, for different reasons to bottlefeeders.

To even out possibly we can have a bottlefeeding title/section too because there are a million and one bottlefeeding questions too.

I don't think and I don't want this to become an us and them argument, so I hope my post doesn't fuel that smile.gif
