I just went and ordered my wedding cake today thru a lady that my aunty works with. It's a square mud cake that feeds up to 100 people...$58!!! Bargain of the century! She only knocked a few dollars off because my aunty works there, so even paying 'full price' its still the cheapest any where Ive seen.
If any one wants the details, PM me, Im more than happy to share where Im getting the cake from! biggrin.gif

thats only $4.50 a slice (assuming its the same size) which is not terrible if it was a really beautiful cake

It's just a cake you look at it, then eat it! ..and then it is gone! I find it such a waste to spend all that money on cake! To me $450 is WAY too much. But thats just my opinion blush.gif other people may think that cake is very important!

I never got it either until I did the course and now make wedding cakes and the flowers etc, when you realise how much time goes into it, you realise why the price is so high, I dont know if yours is decorated, but one rose can take up to 3 hours to make and you have to do it in about 4 sittings my normal work hourly rate x 4 hours x however many flowers = quite pricey

You've done well with your price!

I can understand why handmade icing flowers would cost so much, but often they charge almost as much for relatively plain cakes! I know that there's a lot of skill in getting the fondant perfectly smooth, but I've seen some roughly iced (that was the style) cakes with strawberries, ribbons or fresh flowers on top at ridiculous prices.

ph34r.gif I think maybe you should look at the work that goes into making the cakes- as well as the required skill- How many of you would pay more than $450 for a DJ- where all they do is press play on a list of music that you compile for them??? ph34r.gif

my cake is costing 500 and i have just put the list up from 100 to 150 and we are on a really tight budget so i think its what you want on your big day not all people want to spend big $ on a cake and some people think its really important.

now i'm not a cake person but when i saw mine i new it was me.

i think that's great how much Ur cake is i wish!

Hi
I am getting married in MArch and flying down to Melbourne for the wedding as l relocated to QLD recently.

I too am keen to have a chocolate mud cake made for my wedding, 1 tier.
Is it possible to have the details of the woman who made your cake.
Kind regards

Hey, I'm a cake decorator/pastry chef and I know how much time and effort it takes to make flowers, decorate a cake etc etc BUT there are still places out there that charge excessively for wedding cakes because they know that it is an area of the market that is a necessity (to most brides anyway). I don't think it's fair though that someone would even think to charge a discounted rate of $450 for a simple cake like you described ~KylzA~!
