Hopefully tonight is a once off Michelle. Maybe moving his cot has put him off a little bit too. Cate is the same though - always protests when she is overtired.

Woody and Ems - hope the sleeps get longer from here.

After Cates 2 hour stint on Thurs she only did 1 hr on Friday and 45min today :-( I am sticking with the 11:30am bedtime for now though and will see what happens. Her usual bedtime is 7pm but I have been doing 6:30pm when she has a small sleep. Doesn't seem to affect her wake time in the morning either.

Big fail here today too. Amy was so tired so put her to bed at 11:30am and is now awake at 12pm so not even half an hour!! She will definitely need a nap this arvo. I don't know how i can stretch her out longer.

Oh this girl will be the end of me!! biggrin.gif

Woody I often say the same.lol.

Jacks down for his arvo nap I wonder for how long.He went down at 12.30pm.3pm would be nice. Its alot cooler here today so hopefully.

I might move his cot back today.Maybe he likes to see the door??He did a small protest before bed.Now this is a little boy who hasnt protested for 7 months maybe longer.
As too why I dont really know.I moved his cot and he went down to 1 day sleep.Im thinking it might just be a very tired thing as well when he was having 2 long sleeps he wasnt soo tired.

ill move it back anyway just to be sure!!

Stick with it.
Jack did a couple of those. He was feral and no he doesnt get a nap lol.I find if he naps he wakes up worse I just entertain him.

So far jack has been down 1hr 45 mins.Im hoping for another 40 mins at least and he should be happy.Anything under 2 hrs isnt pretty.

After him protesting i moved his cot back and not a peep.Seems he likes to see the door lol

So do you think im confusing him with the attempted nap? It aint pretty here chelle if its only an hr sleep! Hence me thinking a nap was a good idea, thou now 90% of the time he whinges and fights it!

I attempted the move of the cot ekk not a good idea laugh.gif glad he happily went back to his usual possie smile.gif

You know Ems these babies are unpredictable.

The other day when jack had 1.5hrs he was feral so I attempted a 4.30 nap.

He fought it then he crashed then when i woke him up he was worse.lol

Maybe give him a week of no napping and he might learn to sleep longer???

Is his room cool??I find the days Jacks room was hot he had crap sleep. We are getting him a small air con in his new room so he will have no excuse wink.gif

I don't even attempt an arvo nap anymore. I tried it 2 or 3 times when I was at my wits end and Cate just ended up screaming the house down. From then on I have just done the one sleep regardless of how long - even on the days when she only has 45min. Those days are an absolute shocker so I usually put her to bed at 6:30 instead of 7.

Ems - I think it does get better over time but takes awhile. Most people I have chatted to have said it takes a month to get any sort of consistent longer sleeping. I know for Cate things are getting a little better - but slowly. She seems to be putting in longer sleeps a little more regularly although most days are only 1hr 15min or so. But then today she did 2.5 hours and I had to wake her up as I know any longer than that in a day will affect her night sleeping.

Definitely stick at it and if you can I would drop the arvo nap if it's not working anyway. Might make the transition a bit quicker if he knows he doesn't get another sleep?? Who knows with these kids though. They like to keep us guessing.

Woody - hope you get a better day tomorrow.

Michelle, that is great Jack is sleeping so well, i'm so jealous.

Thanks chicky. Its taken alot of perserverence and tears from both of us to get him 99.99999% perfect.
Other than the other day when I moved his cot he hasnt protested(excluding hospital) for about 9 months.
I was at a loss the other night when i moved his cot and he protested.

Is Amy a good self settler??i think this helps.Once they can do that with no worries throwing this in there goes ok.

Ems, is Cooper too hot during the day do you think ?

Taylor is a brilliant sleeper like Jack, but, when the warmer weather hit, her one day sleep dropped back as her room was just too warm.

So now we put her in our room in her 0.5 grobag, portacot, air con on to keep the room around 27/26 and her sleep went back to normal.

Thanks for the advice girls on dropping the naps, I hope by doing that he will know to sleep longer in his 1 day sleep. Yesterday made for a long afternoon laugh.gif bbl for a catch up on everyone

It definitely does get better. My little boy did this for a while too, but I think after a week or two he started to 'get' that he was only getting one chance to sleep during the day and now he sleeps for 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

The only thing I did a little differently to a lot of others is I put him down a bit later (12.45ish). I try to keep him up longer in the first half of the day so that if by chance he does wake a bit early from his sleep, the afternoon will not be too long still. I usually don't get him out of his cot until 3pm anyway, even if he has woken early (but he is happy talking to himself for however long until I get him up!).

I start getting Josh ready to put to sleep at about 12.30 so that he is asleep by 1pm. This was pretty hard when he first went to one sleep as I could tell he was tired earlier but this works well for us now and he is used to it. I give him lunch and then put him bed.

we are the same in that TAylor will go to bed later rather than earlier for her day sleep.

They do say that one of the reasons for catnapping is that they are not tired enough for a 'sleep'.

Even though Taylor goes to sleep at 1pm, I can see some tired signs sometimes alot earlier than that, but know that it is way to early for her to go to sleep and that she isn't tired enough to sleep for a couple of hours.

Im back, sorry its the first day of fdc so im a little emotional wacko.gif

Chelle it was a hard road for you to get to here, so glad he is sleeping so well for you hun

Scasey how have things been? I agree i think we need to get rid of the nap

Amy I dont suspect he is to cold, as he is sweating when I get him up laugh.gif not a lot, he is just a sweaty boy. His room keeps to a good temp, thou we have had the really hot days where his sleep is shocking! Maybe he just needs to be tireder to sleep longer?? hmmmm

I *think* for this age without looking at SOS his sleep time is around midday? or 12.45pm? We are now working on around 11am, today he is at fdc so i see that going out the window rolleyes.gif he wont sleep if he can play with other kids.

Thanks for the encouragement girls. Its so hard to not want to give him that sleep. And so hard to think its going to work. I believe it will, in time.

Creativity thats a darn good idea putting him down at 12.45pm as it wont make the afternoon so long, i get what you mean. I think we will work on that as he adjusts, at the moment he is trashed by 11am. Yesterday for example...we went out so came home at 11.30am and put him down and like clockwork he was up an hr later! I didnt give him an afternoon sleep and he was trashed by 5pm wacko.gif Bath and bed by 6.45pm he was done!

K that is enough rambling, thanks for the friendly ear girls wub.gif
