Thinking this is where we are headed.
The past 4 days he would not go down for his arvo sleep and considering he had woken from his morning sleep around 12.30 that makes a LOONNGG day.

Then today he would not go down at 10.30.
Im thinking Im going to just drop it.Im going to try keep him up till 11 or 11.30(eventually drag out to 12.30 or 1.

I know exactly how you feel. I have to say that the last 2 weeks have been hell on earth so be prepared. I decided though that once we went to one day sleep we would not go back as didn't want to confuse her too much. I think since we started I have backed down twice re the arvo sleep and both times were not good so I am not tempted anymore.

Everyone I have spoken to has said it takes 2ish weeks to start getting a bit longer sleeps consistently but more like a month or so to get 2 - 2.5 hours consistently. I have my fingers crossed. Apart from yesterday where Cate only had 20min at daycare all day we have had 1.5 - 2 hours 3 days in a row. I am hoping today will be the same - have just put her down now at 11:30.

I have to say this one day sleep thing is a huge challenge and tests your patience a lot.

Well i think we are here.

like i said the past 4 days he was fighting so now today he was awake till 12.45.

he had a huge play, lunch and happily went nigh nighs.Althoug when i asked him if he wanted a sleep he said NO.

And that was after swimming today he lasted.

I found yesterday he only had 2 hrs and Im hoping for at least that today.I dont wanna hear from him till 3pm lol

So far transition has been good.

I guess considering he sleeps 11 ish hours overnight it was to much at just over 18 months to expect 2 days sleeps of 2 plus hours??LOL

Sounds like Jack is handling it well. I think it is prob easier on them if they hold out until they are older to transition. Trust Cate to pick sleep as the one thing she is "ahead" at. Everything else she is behind the average.

She had 2 hours today though so I am extra happy. I am happy if she gets 1.5 hours during this transition. Our aim is 2-2.5 hours every day :-)

Im the same, once we do it its done. I dont want to confuse him, thou im sure on the odd day he may need 2 iykwim.

My biggest challenge will be keeping him up past the 10am. Today he was soooo tired by 9.45am, put him down and not a word till 11.10am then down at 2.50 and just heard him chatting again and its 3.15 rolleyes.gif so maybe no sleep this afternoon.....

I may need to do it gradually, 10.15am and so on.

scasey how did today go?

Chelle did he sleep till 3pm?

Guess that is my fear, him only sleeping for 40min the turning feral in the afternoon wacko.gif but as you say scasey they eventually learn to sleep longer.

Maybe im being greedy, I love the 2 sleeps a day laugh.gif tongue.gif

Cate had 2 hours today. The first week we did one sleep she did 1 hr most days but we also had a day of only 35min sleep all day. It was horrible and I have thought about switching back to 2 sleeps many many times. I we stuck it out and she seems to be getting the hang of it and sleeping longer in general.

I have been moving her sleep out 15min every 4 or 5 days. She was at 10:30 when on 2 sleeps but then started straight at 11am when she went to 1 sleep. We are now at 11:30. I sort of like the one sleep as so much easier to get out in the morning and arvo without rushing.

Sounds like Jack is going well with the transition Michelle!

Hamish is for the first time in his life doing the recommended amount of sleep for his age!

His routine is roughly:

6-6.30am - up and breakfast (ASAP food in mouth or trouble)
8isham - snack (muesli bar, biccies, muffin whatever is around)
10.30ish - snack 9any combination of the above)
12ish - lunch
12.30-1ish sleep until 2-3.30ish. Sleeps are a minimum of 1.5hours and range to 3 hours depending on the morning activities.
on waking in the afternoon he has fruit and yoghurt and then eats all afternoon. as a result its version of fruit so as not to be too filling.
5.30pm - dinner
6pm - dessert (yoghurt/custard)
6.30pm - bath, bedtime routine and asleep at about 7.30-8ish.

Im at the same as you Ems. Amy will only sleep for a max of an hour. A couple of days this week she has only had one day sleep well nap really. Yesterday she had her one hour at 11:30-12:30 and went to bed at 7pm. She was so tired but then had a terrible night sleep, didn't actually get into a deep sleep til after 2am and then was up again at 7am.

I know i've gotta just bite the bullet and continue with one day sleep but she is so feral by bedtime since she only has 30mins-an hour sleep in the whole day and it's like that all night. I doubt even when she does fully transition to one day sleep that it will be longer, i hope it will but i really doubt it.

Michelle, that is great Jack is sleeping so well, i'm so jealous.

Its horrid hey woody sad.gif Today he didnt go down till 11am and only slept an hour, im attempting a nap (YEA RIGHT)as he is off today and think he needs it, he doesnt agree wacko.gif rolleyes.gif

Im soooooooooooo in denial about moving to 1 day sleep laugh.gif

Its hard when they only have 1hr the day and the attitude seems to go on forever. I know he will "fingers crossed" sleep for longer its just damb hard atm.

We have been doing 1 sleep for 2 weeks now. We started at 11am and her average sleep was only 1hr. Last Sat I pushed it out to 11:15am and we had 4 days of 1hr 15-30min. I will push it out again to 11:30am tomorrow and see how we go. That first week and a bit of shocking sleeps was hell on earth as she would only have 45min some days. I am hoping we have turned the corner for longer sleeps now but then she only had a 20min sleep at daycare today. Hoping that is not an ongoing thing.

Will started to want to drop his afternoon sleep. So we just kept him up till after lunch then put him down and he now sleeps for 2 hours then instead of at 11 am. Sounds like he always had a later am sleep though.. We aimed for 11am after a 6.30 wakeup.

Hoping it continues going well.

Big fail here today.

Jack powered on till 12.30pm.
He had a 1.5hr sleep. Now considering 2 weeks ago he was having 4 hrs thats a lot less.

We went out to see a friend and he was ok .Im bought him home about 7.30 for bed.He normally goes at 8.30.
For the 1st time in i dont know how long ive sat hear listening to him cry.Not a sick cry just a good im tired cry.

He is finally silent.
I moved his cot today so once he is asleep I can half open his door to let the air con in as todays temp got to 39 deg.

If he only has the 1.5hr tomorrow i might try for a short nap around 4 ish???
I think being sooo over tired oday made him like this tonight
