Just wondering how much money you spent on your honeymoon and where you went? Did you want to go somewhere else but just couldn't afford it? We are in the very early stages of wedding planning and are trying to work out how much to budget in for a honeymoon. All the places I want to go seem to be so expensive but I would really like to have a "honeymoon of a lifetime". I think I'd rather put some more money away for a honeymoon and spend a little bit less on the wedding as a wedding is only 1 day whereas a honeymoon is 1-2 weeks of rest and relaxation.

So where did you go and what did you spend? How long agao was your honeymoon?

$20K+ We went to Paris, Italy and Japan in April 2007. We did the usual sightseeing and shopping. we did very little rest and relaxation. We visited as many places as we could and we did a lot of walking. Regardless, it was my dream honeymoon.

Considering we have only just come back from 12 months in Canada, we decided to make our honeymoon simple. We are going to a place called The Mouses House (romantic chalets) in the Gold Coast hinterland for a week of relaxation and romance.

It will cost us $1000 for 5 nights including some nice extras.

I would have loved to go to NZ for our honeymoon, but we can't afford it and I don't feel like organising another big trip. I'm quite excited about taking it easy for our honeymoon. We'll be going on plenty of bush walks and scenic drives.

Is it important to you to take your Honeymoon immediately after the Wedding?
If it is you have 2 options really, put the date back enabling you to save longer giving you more money so you can have "the dream" wedding and honeymoon, or give funding priority to whichever you decide is more important to you.

Our circumstances are a little different in that we have a 10 year old, and we had to travel 3000kms across Australia to have our Wedding in Victoria where our family is. Because we had to spend 2 weeks in VIC preparing for the Wedding our finances were stretched and our time off work very limited so we decided to delay our "honeymoon".

In three months (15 months since our Wedding) we are leaving on our dream trip, we are spending 4.5 weeks in Paris, England, Scotland & Wales. We are using public transport in Paris and London (the first week) then picking up a hire car and spending the next 3.5 weeks driving around England, Wales & Scotland. We are mainly staying in Budget Hotels ($150-$200 per night - yes in the UK that IS Budget!) and B&B's.

Our estimated total cost is $16'000 - $18'000

- Belinda.

$22K waited 6 months after the wedding. It was exactly where we wanted to go. We waited because we needed extra time to save and weren't going to compromise!

we originally wanted to go to the greek islands, with a winter wedding it was the perfect time of year to travel over there. Time and money put a dampner on that though. Originally we thought we wouldnt be able to save enough (neednt have worried about that but too late now) and I didnt want to take any extra time off as it would be unpaid leave if I go anywhere outside school holidays (one gripe of being a teacher, until you've been round long enough to have long service leave you dont control when you go on holiday). 2 weeks incl travel time was not enough for europe we thought.

so instead of spending 10k+ spending going to the greek isles we are going on a fancy pants trip to thailand for 7k, flying everywhere and staying at the peninsula bangkok with limo transfers etc. will be a wonderful honeymoon as we have only done budget travel before now!

Our honeymoon wasn't organised before the wedding. We had a few weeks off after the wedding set aside to go somewhere; we decided on our destination on the Wednesday and flew out on the Thursday after our wedding.

We went to New Zealand for a week and had a wonderful time. We stayed at here which was the perfect spot to unwind and relax.

After we came back to Australia, we spent a few days in the Southern Highlands and then headed back to Sydney. It was a perfect honeymoon. smile.gif

Ours was $8000+ (not sure how far past that we went!). We spent 10 nights in the Cook Islands. We had a slightly less expensive wedding in order to add more to the honeymoon.

We spent around $30k. We went to Thailand for 1 week then Europe for 7 weeks, finishing up with 10 days skiing in the French Alps. We decided early on that we wanted a huge trip before we bought another house and started a family. I wouldn't change it for the world - the memories we made will last a lifetime wub.gif

We also wanted a honeymoon of a lifetime but ended up doing it in two legs - we had a relaxing tropical honeymoon and then saved for another year and had the $25K Europe/Asia trip for our first anniversary..

So actual honeymoon - 4 days driving up South Coast of NSW staying in B&B's and then 7 nights in Samoa at a boutique resort in an overwater bungalow - all food and drinks included... all up about $6K I think

Whatever your decide to do will be romantic and gorgeous wub.gif - you cant beat that special feeling of being newlyweds on your honeymoon!! smile.gif

We haven't gone on our honeymoon yet but we are planning to spend about $10K. Our wedding is a destination wedding so the whole thing is going to be a holiday!

We are spending five nights in Port Douglas with our guests before the wedding
three nights at the wedding location (silky oaks lodge)

then for the actual honeymoon:
five nights on brampton island
then a ten night south pacific cruise

Then a week at home on leave with just the two of us. All in all it will be five weeks off work.

We are planning on buying a house and having a family straight away so it will be our last hurrah before all that responsibility.

Well we spent $35K on our honeymoon. We went on a 6 week honeymoon travelling to countries such as, Africa, America and Phuket.
Our safari in Africa was quite expensive. As we were on our honeymoon we really didn't want to be with a huge bus load of people so we had a private safari where it was DH and I. I tell you... IT was definately the way to travel... We had the best time. Accom in NY was also expensive as we wanted Prime postion. It was a trip of a life time. We saved for our wedding and honeymoon for 2 years... That was a VERY long time to save EVERY spare penny.. But we did it and we did it all by ourselves... We were really proud of ourselves....

We were in Oz for our wedding as my husband in from the UK and we both live in Kuwait. We are really lucky and do a fair bit of travelling during the year so we decided we would keep it simple. We spent a couple of days in a good Sydney CBD hotel and hung out with friends who had come from OS and interstate. Had the best time. We then went to Fiji for a week and stayed on one of there more isolated islands. We also decided to go to S.A for a week, do the winerys etc. We had the best time and it wasn't as expensive about $6-7000 all up for everything.

Ours was very cheap.
We went to SYDNEY. While i had been there numerous times for work , i had never done the tourist thing.
We went to the State of Origin, the Zoo , Centre point tour , took a ferry trip, spent a day at Manly ect ect
It was lovely , we live in a tiny rural town and it was so nice to do a big city experince

We'll spend about 35k on two trips.
First will be about 5k on a two week trip to WA - hiring a campervan and just driving and finding nice beaches and wineries to chill out and enjoy the food and scenery.

Second will be a six week tour of South America followed by one week in New Zealand - our dream honeymoon but won't happen until end 09/start 10 when we've both got enough leave saved up and are ready to start a family when we get back. We want it as our last big thing as just the two of us.
