Sorry to hear you had such a lousy time.... Does sound as though you & your Travel Agent weren't on the same page though and perhaps not enough research was put into it all????

We had a wonderful time in Phuket & Bangkok for our honeymoon and can't wait to go back.

I have to second what Karry said to an extent. I did bucket-loads of research into the first part of our Honeymoon. We stayed in an AMAZING resort in Phuket and frankly, other than my wedding day, it was the best 11 days of my life. However, I did almost no research for our 3 nights in Bangkok (very unlike me I must say), and basically went on the advice of my travel agent without doing my homework. I was disappointed in the accommodation in Bangkok, and it was my fault really. I should have been more studious. We do have some funny stories though.

Try to look back and laugh, and plan something wonderful for your anniversary. Do lots of research and make sure you're going to be 100% happy with the next place!

Miss Gucci I can totally sympathise with you, I still feel disappointed when I think of our honeymoon and will always feel it is mostly my fault sad.gif

We did a Singapore cruise and 11 nights in Phuket. We were meant to fly out on the Tues morning after the wedding, we started packing on Monday night only to realise my passport was nowhere to be found - we always keep them in the same place and to this day have still not found it. We had to cancel our flight and our luxurious night in the Valley Wing at the Shangri-La Singapore. $350 in lost/emergency passport fees later we arrived in Singapore to board our cruise with 2hrs to spare.

Our flight from Singapore to Phuket turned into a nightmare when we hit a storm on the decent and we got as low as being able to clearly view cars on the road when the pilot jerked the plane back up into the sky and we were in a holding pattern for 45mins around the airport before we could land.

We chose the hotel in Patong as we had stayed there before and loved it, but we will never stay there again. After the distressing flight we arrived to spend our first 6 nights in the suite, only to discover that the bed was as hard as concrete and we both woke up feeling very sore and even more exhausted. I went to guest relations nearly in tears by this stage and they could hardly understand me and didn't really care, in the end the best they would do is put a doona cover under the sheet to try to make it softer but it didn't do much. I spent the whole day crying - I honestly couldn't make myself stop and by 4pm hubby was getting a bit frustrated with me.

As the suite was so expensive we had arranged (and pre-paid) to spend our last 5 nights in a deluxe room. So we packed our bags and went to reception to swap rooms only to be told they had cancelled our booking!!! We were told to come back in a few hours time and they would see what they could do. We go back and are told we can't have our booked room but as an appology they have upgraded us to a garden villa - upgrade? I don't think so!!!. We walk in, it is revolting, nothing but a ceiling fan and right at the back of the complex! This was the final straw for DH and he went back up to guest relations and demanded our room - funny how they managed to have one ready in 20mins!

So that's my horror story. I was hoping to suprise hubby with a week in Singapore for our first anniversary but because of other things it won't happen, however I am suprising him with a night at the Crown Towers and we will go for dinner somewhere special.

And like everyone else has said, I am sure one day we will look back on it and laugh wink.gif but until then, it's a great reason to plan a brilliant second honeymoon, even if it doesn't happen until your first or second anniversary!

I agree that research will save you from disasters. What others may percieve as fantastic you might not agree.

I did some research, not masses, but that is why I went through a travel agent rather than booking ourselves. Before we confirmed the booking I trawled the internet, the sites of the hotels, forums, discussion boards and everything and was happy with what the agent recommended us, so we booked. I think what people had written about was the other part of the hotel.\

I probably should have done more research, but again, I didn't really want to have to. Oh well, been and gone now, we're going to go on another holiday next year, within Australia, and I will be booking everything myself!

How horrible! But I'm sorry to say, terribly interesting ladies!!

I can only contribute the first 3 nights Ben booked for us in a treehouse that swayed in the wind leading me to yell at him for walking around if I was on the toilet laugh.gif and the massage he treated me to (Lomi Lomi) where the lady used her whole forearms to rub oil on my body, including my face, and she had a terrible case of "Chicken Arms"...I wanted to vault off the table and scream "Stop rubbing your skin rolls over me!!!!" laugh.gif

My parents had a horrid honeymoon.. they were (almost) hit by a tropical cyclone, the weather was SO bad they got their money back..

34 years on, they are still happily married. So guess it didn't matter that much in the end! biggrin.gif
