We had the gnocchi with pasta sauce for dinner and it was so yum! Best of all it cost less than $5 for the entire meal!

My usualy Aldi Hits:
-Nappies and Pull-Ups
-Fruit, Nut and Choc bars as well as Fruit, Nut and Yogurt bars
-Choc chip biccies- as nice as the Premium range in Coles/Woolies
-Palazzo Biscuits
-Organic Spahgetti and pastas
-Toilet Paper
-Tissue Boxes
-Olive Oil
-Vinegar
-Window cleaner
-Toothbrushes
-Sanitary Pads
-Dog Food
-Tempura Chicken Nuggets
-Fruit & Veg
-Mixed Lettuce Packs
-Milk
-Bread
-Eggs
-Sliced Cheese
-Meat
-Custard in Long Life packs
-Soy Milk
-Fetta Cheese
-Cream
-Apple & Mango as well as Orange Juice
-Tomato Sauce

A few things that were a miss:
-Their Ice magic equivalent
-Burrito packs (the meat seasoning was a bit powdery and didnt have as nice a flavour as Old El Paso.
-Their Fabric Softener is nice but I've switched to the Cuddly Lavender & Ylang Ylang concentrate- mainly for the nicer smell!
-Apple scented laundry liquid was good but i like Bio Zet better
-The cake mix i picked up didn't come with an icing sachet like the ones in Coles/Woolies does.
-Betty Crocker Apple& Cinnamon muffin mix was better than Aldis.

We buy lots of staples there like tinned tomatoes, pasta, toilet paper, soy and UHT milk, chese etc and have never had a problem. I don't care what brand I buy of these things, as long as they're not rubbish, and what we've bought has certainly not been rubbish!

Things we've particularly liked:

* jams - can't remember the exact "brand", but it comes in a hexagonal bottle, and is very 'gourmet'!
* I actually quite like their hairspray - the one in the white tin. Holds well and brushes out easily, and doesn't stink! (And is under $3 a tin, thumbs up there!)
* their tropical Popper equivalents. Mr Bruce LOVES them, and I've got to say that I think they're the best flavour juice box ever too!

Don't like:
* their tinned cat food. Awful, awful, awful.

They have amazing frozen curly fries - Yummo!

As is their frozen mac & cheese! Really good when you are starving but can't be bothered having to clean up after eating and its so creamy.

I like all their cheeses too.

I actually don't mind their ice magic equivalent, but I'm not fond of their ice cream - but I'm really fussy when it comes to ice cream.

Does anyone think that Aldi works on a popularity level for their goods.

Some weeks when I go I will notice that some things are not available but then the next time I go there twice as much

And then there are things that seem to be plentiful all the time, and after a while they arent there anymore, like they trial something to see how it takes.

I had never seen the Gnocchi before last week and I cant believe how cheap it is! we love it at our house! so I hope this hangs around.

When I first started going there they didnt have any cooking stuff either like flour and caster sugar, but I am a happy chappy as they are there now!

So I was just wondering if unlike Coles etc, whether Aldi give things the flick from their store if they arent selling to keep costs down?

Hey Christine,

I think they do get a reputation from the dodgy area stores, but all of our aldis are part of major shopping complexes, so it doesnt feel like you are visiting the dark side,

I love ALDI. I was very excited to find there was one being built right near me so now i don't have to make a special trip anymore - i can just pop in whenever i like smile.gif I even bought the trolley coin!!!

I buy:

Sugar
flours
butter
margarine
milk
pastas
bolognese sauces
stir fry sauces
choc chip cookies - the best ever!
chocolate
frozen vegies
frozen pies
toilet paper
roll on deoderant
bleach
chicken breast
mince (the higher rated one not the cheaper one)
tinned corn and peas
baked beans and spaghetti

I buy lots of stuff and haven't had any major problems with any of it.

I must say though that the washing up detergent is a bit funny - it won't froth in hot water - i have to give it a burst of cold wtaer to make it bubble. Maybe it's just my taps????

I try new things every week and i have noticed a massive saving to my weekly grocery budget.

I love their hot dog bread rolls and packaged frankfurts.

I know some people don't like hot dogs - but I LOVE them!!!

I'm such a hot dog freak - I even told DH the other day that could be my last meal if I was on death row... he said he'd let the guards know laugh.gif
