When are you leaving for your honeymoon?

I told him about the things that usually take place the day after (I'm seeing a bbq with our family/friends, sunshine, prawns, me with an incredible tan etc) but he is not interested in that at all. Told me that I could go to the bbq, and when they asked me where he is, I could tell them he was on his honeymoon (he was laughing when he said this!). Plus I am thinking that you would want time to unwind etc so that you are relaxed when you are away?
He even said that we should get a room at an airport hotel on the night of our wedding, so that we wouldnt be late for our flights! And as stupid me gave him the responsibility for organising the honeymoon, I fear I need to get him in order quickly!
so the point of this thread, how long after your wedding, are you going on your honeymoon?

For us we had our wedding on a Sunday and then flew out to the USA on Tuesday and had the BBQ, present thing on the Monday. My husband (and I) would have been more than happy to fly out the next day but we had many guests who had come to our wedding from overseas- so really HAD to see them at the BBQ IYKWIM.
It actually was a good idea- as we were both exhausted after the wedding and having that extra day made a difference before we got on the long haul flight.

I am going to suggest we delay for about 4 weeks as it will be my birthday and my cousin gets married at the same time.
However, if I fall pregnant between then and my cousins wedding, things may change.

|We're getting married on the 8th January, are staying in a suite that comes free with our reception. The next day we'll do the family BBQ thing and at 11.30 at night we'll by flying to Fiji. We're really happy with this arrangement.|
Sara is doing EXACTLY the same thing. Free suite, then bbq, then leaving for Fiji at 11.59pm Sunday night.
BTW Gayle, my brother is a captain with qantas and he tells me that the flights to Fiji don't always leave on time. If everyone is accounted for, the plane leaves, even if it is not time to go. So you might find that the plane leaves earlier than planned. And the reason why the flight is 11.59 not midnight, is to avoid confusion with midnight/midday.

Steve and I were so exhausted after the wedding that we hung out in a hotel suite for a couple of days and were glad to have that time just to relax. We didn't have the family BBQ the next day as my parents insisted we have time for ourselves once we were married so we had a small BBQ during the following week.
If you can do without a sleep in after your wedding why not just take off? If like me you NEED a sleep in then wait a few days.

Because we're taking 2-3 weeks off work to get married in England and then flying back to Australia after the wedding, we decided it wouldn't be a good idea to immediately ask for another three weeks, or to catch another flight for a while. Plus we're going to NZ (and the Cook islands) and thought the weather would be better in Nov.
We are having the miniest of mini honeymoons the day after our wedding when we'll be popping over to Scotland for two nights. We'll have breakfast with our family and friends and then hotfoot it North to spend some time alone.

This is happening because flights to our destination (Manila) only leave once a week and we have to work within timeframes of work leave and our second wedding over there.
My fiance keeps telling me what an adventure it will be to have breakfast at like 6am with the bridal party in the hotel and then to whisk off overseas. He says that I'll still feel all sparkly from the wedding day and it will make the magic all last longer- ahh he's such a sweetie, I think we both know we'll look pretty rough, will probably forget something and will sit on the flight feeling hung over the whole time.
Oh well c'est la vie!

We have quite a large number of overseas plus interstate guests arriving so we both were of the opinion that it would be rude of us to leave the day after leaving our guests. We are planning on spending a week or so down at the beach with these guests before heading off to Malaysia for two weeks!!!

We figure that way we can just concentrate on the wedding, and then for the two days before the honey moon, then pack and get ready for our holiday. much better.
I'd hate to go the next day after the wedding. Just too rushed.
