FB and I are planning on going to Tahiti, and flights leave on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. We are getting married on the Saturday, and he wants to leave on the Sunday as he cant wait to go (sometimes I think we are getting married for the honeymoon! LOL). I think the Wednesday is much better.

I told him about the things that usually take place the day after (I'm seeing a bbq with our family/friends, sunshine, prawns, me with an incredible tan etc) but he is not interested in that at all. Told me that I could go to the bbq, and when they asked me where he is, I could tell them he was on his honeymoon (he was laughing when he said this!). Plus I am thinking that you would want time to unwind etc so that you are relaxed when you are away?

He even said that we should get a room at an airport hotel on the night of our wedding, so that we wouldnt be late for our flights! And as stupid me gave him the responsibility for organising the honeymoon, I fear I need to get him in order quickly!

so the point of this thread, how long after your wedding, are you going on your honeymoon?

haha... you're h2b sounds very excited! Could you do the BBQ and other stuff after you get back?? I will personally probably leave a few days after the wedding... but not because I want to see people before I leave. My h2b and I arn't living together until we get married so I thought it would be nice to have a few days 'living together' before we go on a holiday!

Hey Nat

Tahiti- lovely!!

For us we had our wedding on a Sunday and then flew out to the USA on Tuesday and had the BBQ, present thing on the Monday. My husband (and I) would have been more than happy to fly out the next day but we had many guests who had come to our wedding from overseas- so really HAD to see them at the BBQ IYKWIM.

It actually was a good idea- as we were both exhausted after the wedding and having that extra day made a difference before we got on the long haul flight.

We're getting married on the 8th January, are staying in a suite that comes free with our reception. The next day we'll do the family BBQ thing and at 11.30 at night we'll by flying to Fiji. We're really happy with this arrangement.

I'm leaving it up to H2B too but I think we've kinda agreed to leave it at least til the Monday or Tuesday to leave. I think we'll both need some time to relax a bit and if my sister is here from Canada then I want to spend some time with her before we leave.

My H2B also wants to go straight away as he sez its 'traditional'. However, as we are going to be flat out the couple of weeks before the wedding I would like to spend a little more time with the guests that have travelled a long way.

I am going to suggest we delay for about 4 weeks as it will be my birthday and my cousin gets married at the same time.

However, if I fall pregnant between then and my cousins wedding, things may change.

Sara is doing EXACTLY the same thing. Free suite, then bbq, then leaving for Fiji at 11.59pm Sunday night.

BTW Gayle, my brother is a captain with qantas and he tells me that the flights to Fiji don't always leave on time. If everyone is accounted for, the plane leaves, even if it is not time to go. So you might find that the plane leaves earlier than planned. And the reason why the flight is 11.59 not midnight, is to avoid confusion with midnight/midday.

Well, we were married in Feb and didn't go on our honeymoon until the end of July! But it was worth the wait!!

Steve and I were so exhausted after the wedding that we hung out in a hotel suite for a couple of days and were glad to have that time just to relax. We didn't have the family BBQ the next day as my parents insisted we have time for ourselves once we were married so we had a small BBQ during the following week.

If you can do without a sleep in after your wedding why not just take off? If like me you NEED a sleep in then wait a few days.

Tahiti sound lush!

We're leaving for our honeymoon 4 months after the wedding! biggrin.gif

Because we're taking 2-3 weeks off work to get married in England and then flying back to Australia after the wedding, we decided it wouldn't be a good idea to immediately ask for another three weeks, or to catch another flight for a while. Plus we're going to NZ (and the Cook islands) and thought the weather would be better in Nov.

We are having the miniest of mini honeymoons the day after our wedding when we'll be popping over to Scotland for two nights. We'll have breakfast with our family and friends and then hotfoot it North to spend some time alone.

I'm sad to say it but I'm leaving the morning afterwards to catch a 8:30 flight!!!

This is happening because flights to our destination (Manila) only leave once a week and we have to work within timeframes of work leave and our second wedding over there.

My fiance keeps telling me what an adventure it will be to have breakfast at like 6am with the bridal party in the hotel and then to whisk off overseas. He says that I'll still feel all sparkly from the wedding day and it will make the magic all last longer- ahh he's such a sweetie, I think we both know we'll look pretty rough, will probably forget something and will sit on the flight feeling hung over the whole time.

Oh well c'est la vie!

We are getting married on the 29th of Jan and not going on our honeymoon untill the 12th of Feb. We have taken the whole of feb off.
We have quite a large number of overseas plus interstate guests arriving so we both were of the opinion that it would be rude of us to leave the day after leaving our guests. We are planning on spending a week or so down at the beach with these guests before heading off to Malaysia for two weeks!!! cool.gif

We are getting married on the saturday and leaving for honeymoon on the Tuesday.

We figure that way we can just concentrate on the wedding, and then for the two days before the honey moon, then pack and get ready for our holiday. much better.

I'd hate to go the next day after the wedding. Just too rushed.

We're getting married on saturday and probably leaving on tuesday. Will give us a couple of nights to get organised and some time to spend with my family who are rarely all in the one place at one time.
