Hi Girls,
Don't know if this has been done before but I can't find anything.
I am doing my own music and hooking the laptop up to speakers.

I was hoping to get some suggestions as to what songs would make you get up onto the dance floor. Its very hard for me not to let my personal tastes influence it too much as there's going to be people from 20 to 60 that I need to allow for.

Here's some I've got already:

Are you gonna be my girl - Jet
Jungle Boogie - (from pulp fiction)
I dont feel like dancin - Scissor Sisters
Twist and Shout - Beatles
Hey Ya - Outkast
Oh Boy - Buddy Holly
A little less conversation - Elvis
Chicken payback - The Hives
Weapon of Choice - Fatboy Slim
Shout - Johnny O'Keefe
Crocodile Rock - Elton John
a few black eyed peas ones...

Suggestions would be great. Thx.

Hi!

I'll be very interested to see what others post too, because we are also organising our own music.

So here are a few songs sure to get me on the dancefloor

Lovefool - The Cardigans
Lovecats - The Cure
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
Kiss - Prince
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Stuck In The Middle With You - Steelers Wheel
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Blister In The Sun - Violent Femmes
Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
Centrefold - J Giles Band
Little L - Jamiroquai

Hope that helps!

PS - I love 'Chicken Payback' too, though I've not put it on our list because I thought I'd be the only person who knew it!

I don't dance (I'm far too uncordinated), but I have a playlist of feel-good dance type songs on my ipod. Some of my favourites:

Are you gonna be my girl - Jet
I knew you were waiting - George Michael and Aretha Franklin
Express yourself - Madonna
Don't stop till you get enough - Michael Jackson
September - Earth, wind and fire
It's raining men - The weather girls
Canned heat - Jamiroquai
What do I have to do? - Kylie Minogue

There are lots of songs that make me dance, but one that stands out to me right now as one that most people know and like is Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out, or even more so, This Fire. A few years ago I went to Splendour in the Grass on a media pass, we had our own platform right next to the stage in the main tent to view the performers from, and when Franz Ferdinand played the media people got so enthusiastic with their foot-stomping that we broke the platform ph34r.gif. It had to be shut down and fixed for the rest of the day.

Ooh I'm so jealous. I agree on both FF songs there. Probably leave them for later in the night when the oldies have been worn out.

Yeah I'm a triplej girl so I tried to put that aside a bit and go for crowd pleasers but I figure chicken payback sounds almost like a 60's song so I might fool them.

Also I'm slipping in They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse in your soul.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well I'll add them to the list.

For our engagement party, I went and bought FloorFillers 1, Floorfillers 2, and Floorfillers 3, they have 3 disks in each, I got heaps of our songs off them and put them on the ipod. They were a great hit.
It's generally the same songs that get people up on the dance floor, and they are normally the older songs, "Girls Just Wanna have Fun", Blame in on the Boogie, some Jet numbers, my H2B is a Triple J man, and we used a lot of that music for the casual part of the evening, before the dancing started.
