OMG- we just booked them and I had not seen this post until now!!!!

Does anyone know of a good dj in the Brisbane area who charges around the same? ($400 for 5 hours)

We want to specify every single song played- and we don't mind providing them all on cd.

So basically we just need someone with a good attitude to play the songs in the right order, at the right time who can also announce our waltz and cake cutting!

We were also thinking of booking them. Does anyone know of any good DJ in Newcastle?

This is one area causing me concern as well, I know most DJ companies won't tell you who your DJ will be let alone let you meet them, that's because I think they are like most casual hire companies, they just hire a warm body for a low rate at the last minute and they are not all that reliable.
I hired a DJ for a Xmas party I organised a couple of years ago and definitely will not use them - I got a call when I was on my way to the function from someone saying where's the dj, he's not here yet and he finally turned up about 1/2 hour after the function started and took another 1/2 to set up. I think when I kicked up the stink the company refunded us 10%.
I won't be going with anyone who won't let me meet the dj, why leave that to chance when it is such an important day???

They were hired several times at the function centre where I used to work and were always very average. The other thing was the equipment they had - it used to look like two walkmans nailed to a wooden board - very shabby.

We never recommended them but they used to get lots of work because they were supposed to be cheap.

We used M/D for our engagement party about 3 years ago and they were great. Very professional. We used them for my 21st many years ago as well. No problems with either occasions.

I am not too sure how they fare with their competitors but at the time, they were the best on the market for the length of time and the cost. And they had a great selection of music as well.

I havent used M/D personally but i went to a Christmas party with them as the entertainment last year in Sydney and they were very dissapointing.

As mentioned by other people so far I think it definetly depends on the DJ would get on the night but the one I saw was rude and played very old songs (I dont mind the gold oldies but some new songs would have been nice too!) Also, someone on the night took his play list and he refused to play any more songs until he got it back! He was 'out of action' for about half an hour until his song list was found.

Not a good look for your wedding!

I gave them a call, as we've booked them
and i asked them about playing music i bring along. and she said they absolutely do.

Vicki Chicki used them and from memory she was happy with them.

I think i'm going to stick with them...

I haven't booked or used the mentioned company. I did however check out the website and was so horrified with the photos on the home page that I don't want to even try them.

Is that me being shallow?

If a company can use those horrible photos to try and promote a "good" business then perhaps they aren't as good as I would hope they are....

The only thing I liked about the website was the list of music so you can create your playlist.

But as the comments above have stated, even that has a flaw.....

I'm thinking a laptop with a playlist of mp3's and a computer minded friend would and could possibly be a better option.

Good luck to the ones who have booked this company.

I was going to book them but we LOVE the 80's theme and they really didnt have much of that!

I have gone with someone else who seems to be really good and a friend of mine had them as well and they think they are fantastic. He actually used to be a DJ in the 80's!

I needed someone to play some Greek and Italian music as well and he was the only one that I found that had what I wanted!

We are using this company - our reception venue hires them as it is included in the package and they have never had one complaint about them (I had to ask after reading this post)

We are having music that they don't have in there song list so they are more than happy to let us bring the cd's with us..

Glad I could be of service to you becster.....

Glad I could bring out the "cranky picky and pi$$y mood" to the surface.

Shallow or not, I expect I'm not the only person who has looked and been turned off.

When websites are about image and information, the image part really let them down.

Hope you mood is better tomorrow.

Hi girls..
I am actually a DJ and own my own company in Melbourne.
I just want you to know that you have rights to know who your service providers are.
If a DJ company states they can't let you know who the DJ is beforehand, I would think twice about booking them. A lot of companies have a stable of many employees who they will shuffle from this job to that job.
Personally I wouldnt want someone who has only done a couple of weddings and 100 21sts to be the dj at my wedding. I would definately want a 'wedding dj' to be the DJ at my wedding. In saying 'wedding dj' I dont necessarily mean a dj who plays just the usual wedding music...I mean an experienced DJ in the wedding industry.
In saying this...the Dj should be vastly experienced in many or all aspects of a wedding reception. They should be flexible and understand that anything can change on the night (no matter how much planning goes in to your big day...be prepared...anything can happen).
Being the wedding guest list usually consists of all age groups, your DJ should be able to relate to all ages.

When you book your photographer..you will meet the person who will be taking the photos of your day........
When you book your celebrant...you will meet the celebrant who will marry you on the day......
When you book your make up artist...you will meet them ...
So why is it that some DJ companies feel you dont have to meet the DJ beforehand...
The entertainment is usually one of the only things that your guests will remember about your wedding....make sure it is worth remembering about for the right reasons...dont leave it to chance...and remember as far as costs go....if you think you have gotten a bargain....you may infact have only booked a cheap service.
Beware and good luck to you all smile.gif
