AUSTRALIAN swim queen Libby Lenton yesterday allowed her wedding to be hijacked by a lucrative magazine deal.
After selling the rights to her big day to New Idea, the 22-year-old was forced to shuffle inside a white "walking tent'', shielded by a white sheet and huge black umbrellas carried by a horde of security guards.
The magazine went to extraordinary lengths to prevent Lenton and her partner, Luke Trickett, 24, being photographed.
The tent escorted them and their bridal party to four waiting limousines that took them from the ceremony to the reception.
Unlike big stars such as Nicole Kidman, who released a photo from her nuptials to Keith Urban, and Rove McManus, who happily posed with late wife Belinda Emmett, Lenton's wedding was off limits to all but those who paid her.
New Idea is reported to have spent as much as $100,000 for the rights to the wedding. '
Security guards manhandled photographers, and guests were ordered not to speak to anyone outside the venue.
Even the location of the ceremony was kept secret.
Guests were instructed to be at Taronga Zoo for 3.30pm.
They were then ferried in three buses to Georges Head, where the couple exchanged vows before leaving in the tent.
Lenton wore a Lisa Gowing dress and had a bouquet of pink and white roses, while Trickett cut a fine figure in a grey suit. They were married by a celebrant.
A smattering of A-list guests, including backstroker Matt Welsh, his wife Lauren Newton, and coach Stephan Widmer, along with more than 100 family and friends, then celebrated with a lavish reception at Taronga Zoo.
It is understood the ceremony was originally intended to be outdoors, but heavy rain yesterday prompted a last-minute change of location.
After winning five gold medals at the FINA world championships, then breaking the 100m freestyle world record last week, Lenton spoke of her dream to be a princess for the day and was excited to swap her swimmers for a couture gown.
"It's a very special moment for us,'' she said before the ceremony.
"It's a celebration for us and our relationship, and for all I achieved at the championships.''
Lenton said she had chosen her wedding dress because it minimised her shoulders.
She said she was lucky that being a swimmer, she didn't have to worry about her weight.
Lenton met Trickett, then a Sydney-based breaststroker, when she was 17 while competing in the Oceania championships in New Caledonia.
Trickett, who later moved to Brisbane, proposed to Lenton when she was 19, but the pair kept their engagement a secret, telling close family only last year.
Lenton's sister Justine, 29, and schoolfriend Victoria, 26, were her bridesmaids.
Trickett's brother was his best man.
Make-up artist Narelle Ryan flew from Brisbane yesterday morning especially for Lenton's big day.
Fellow swimmer Louise Tomlinson said the wedding topped off Lenton's achievements in the pool over the past week.
"We love them both so much, we are happy they are getting married,'' Tomlinson said.
"I am just so proud of her.''
Tomlinson said Lenton had worn her engagement ring on her right hand in an attempt to keep her plans secret.
Welsh, who married Bert Newton's daughter Lauren last year, said he had given Lenton and Trickett marriage tips.
"Libby has been a friend of ours for ages. We gave them a few tips for the day,'' he said.
Lenton's strength and conditioning coach, Meagan Crabb, said the couple had a gift registry on the Internet called Not Another Toaster.
"She was very excited. She spoke about it (her wedding) a lot,'' she said.
Trickett has described Lenton as a "beautiful person'' and has supported her throughout her swimming career.
After a three-week honeymoon, the pair will begin training for next year's Beijing Olympics trials.

Can't wait to see the 'offical' pic's.
