I dont reckon going to the doc is necessary, unless you want to get bloods done, and a referral for hospital.
When I went with Lauren all he did was get bloods done, not sure if they told me anything important. Didnt do a pregnancy test, just said "if you did a test im happy with that"
Dont know if i am going to go to the doctor at all .. undecided, will probably have to get referral for ultrasound later on. But then I am having a homebirth so a whole different scenario

Hi all,
I've jut made a couple of changes to the list on the first page. tetra & Samc, what are your EDD? I've been through and couldn't find a specific date (mind you the brain isn't functioning like it used to a few weeks ago

)
If there is anything that I've missed just pm me and I'll change it.
*groan* I'm heading back to work tomorrow...and I don't actually want to...I've kind of gotten used to my little nanna naps in the afternoon and this holiday time...
Have a good afternoon ladies...

Big congratulations NYE Surprise!! I'm thrilled for you. It is such a nerve-wracking time. Have we passed each other around the traps?

I'm sure we have at some stage, but like you, I'm now thinking that I won't reveal until the 12 week mark either. Unless something good happens at the obs on the 16th.
Does anyone find that their symptoms come and go? When I don't have any I am constantly thinking that all is going pear shpaed....then when the boobies start to sting again, I'm reassured. Hubby tries to keep me on an even keel but it's hard work ha ha ha ha....also, does anyone find their nausea kicks in after eating a meal or late in the night? Mine is really quite horrible after dinner and then again when I'm going to bed. I haven't thrown up yet, but I do get the excess saliva (like you get when you are going to throw up...iykwim)....just curious as to what everyone else has.
Luv MM.
Hi MM... will be interesting to see if we have met around the traps... but I haven't been around for a while now - fingers crossed we both get to do a big happy reveal - good luck with your obs on the 16th.
YES!! I have the exact same paranoia with my symptoms, never thought I'd be so happy to feel nauseus! I only feel reassured when I feel blerch or my bb's are a bit stingy! Sooo hard not to read into things and compare them to my other lost angels, but I'm trying to be positive. I've started to get a bit bad tempered and 'short' today... which made me worried because that's usually what I get about a week before AF.... but I'm glad to hear you ladies also have a bit of a temper

Sounds like you have the basics of a good plan there though - and still plenty of time to work out the details.

I picked up a copy of "What to Expect when you are Expecting" including "What to Eat" when you are expecting. Not bad so far. But far out - that's a lot of protein each day!
Anyone else reading anything?
ETA : Me again - just booked the Obs, very pleased as we were quite keen on this particular Obs, my SIL has worked with him and had 3 kids with him and he is known for very low intervention and leaving things as natural as possible which I am keen on. First appointment 12th Feb. Also booked the 13 week scan for 23rd Feb which makes it all seem so very real.

Congratulations NYE Surprise. What a wonderful way to start the New Year.
I hear where you're coming from with the worries...I felt really nauseus all day yesterday (exactly like I was hungover) but today I don't have any symptoms and my mind is racing with worry that something is wrong!
Can anyone explain which additional vitamins they are taking during their pregnancy? I am only on folate but I'm wondering if I should take something else too - especially as I am a veggie (eat fish though).
I am covering myself in baby oil after each shower to ward off future itchiness from skin stretching! I'm also drinking loads of water, eating heaps of veggies and fruit and trying to get as much as sleep as possible. I don't know how I'm going to get through today without a kip - first day back at work!

Not sure about everyone else, but I am taking a general multi with folate as given by my naturopath. Probably just the same as Elevit, Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Gold and a Natures Own which all seem to be well liked around the traps. Like you, I am also trying really hard with my diet, off to the shops for some wheatgerm and cottage cheese! Don't know if they sound terribly tasty but could'nt give a rats

MrsTM, maybe just ask your doctor next time you see him/her re: vitamins. I am taking the Blackmores Pregnancy Gold ones. I feel I have been eating pretty well, but occassionally, like yesterday/last night, my diet is a bit lacking, so when I have those off days when it come to eating, I feel that taking the multi is a good idea.
Have you got some good fish recipes you can share ? I haven't had any since being pregnant, paranoid about all the mercury talk you read about. A butcher near here was on the news this year for labelling their seafood incorrectly! so that is a bit scary. Unfortunately I can't tell what type of fish by just looking at it!

My prego viatmins are prescribed by my naturopath too. I'm taking Natal Plus 1 per day and 2 Efanatal per day and 1tsp of flax seed oil per day. I don't eat any seafood hence the flax seed oil. The Natal Plus is this enormous horse tablet that smells revolting and has loads of good things in it for me but I have to cut it into quaters just to be able to swallow it...speaking of which I still have 2 left to go!

...just can't face it right now...the Efanatal is smaller and a liquid tablet - much easier to swallow and has all the essential oils for preggo women.
question...has anyone had sensitive teeth? I bit into a plum this morning and it wasn't that cold but I nearly died...it was like brain freeze when you eat ice cream
OMG...I've just got a boost juice (we do the occassional run here) and I got a watermelon crush...I think I've found my new obsession!!!! It's divine....fruity sorbet and crushed ice and watermelon..YUMMM!!!

As for fish recipes.....
I made a gorgeous Thai fish meal last night which is really simple to do on the BBQ or in the oven:
1 x white fillet fish
lemongrass
red chilli
ginger
White wine
Butter
Lime juice
Chop all the ingredients finely.
Make a little "boat" (parcel) out of silver foil and place fish fillet inside. Coat fish with chopped ingredients, add knob of butter and splash of white wine. Seal foil and cook in oven or BBQ for ten minutes or until fish is cooked through.
Serve with wild grain rice.

MrsTM that sounds great! I read in your other post that you have selected Freemasons. When do you have to book in? I am surprised how early everything is done!
When I went to the docs to get my blood test done, he advised me to book a bed there and then, which is what I did. I chose the hospital first and when I went onto their website, it had a list of obs who deliver there so I just chose one at random (bit like going to the races - I picked a name that made me laugh!) and made an appointment with him. When I spoke to his assistant, she told me she'd book me the bed at the hospital and when I asked her if I was doing everything too soon, she replied "certainly not! You need to book a bed immediately, they get so busy" so it put my mind at rest that I wasn't being a fuss pot!
This is only cos we're going privately though. To be honest with you, I am fine to go to a public hospital but my husband is really keen for me to go private.
I am also booked in to see the ob on 18 January for a first discussion about things. I'll keep you posted.
What are your plans? Do you know which hospital you want to go to?

I booked in for StV's this morning when I called to book the Obs. He delivers at both Frances Perry and StV's but prefers StV's. Why? Probably only because his rooms are there

First appointment with Obd not until 10 weeks (12th Feb) so a while to wait yet!

There is so much to think about!
I have just seen my dr who answered all of my questions about excercise and confirmed I am healthy although I haven't got immunity to chciken pox. He used to be and obs which is great so I can stay with him for most of the pregnancy. We are touring Knox and Mitcham private on the weekend to decide which one to use, they are about the same distance apart.
I hadn't even thought about oils to prevent stretch marks or nappies. We think we are going to move as our house is tiny and Adam works from home so we are running out of room already without adding a baby.

Hi ladies, tetra here. Just saying hi and wondering how you are all going/ I hope you are well.
As for my early symptoms, I had very sore boobs and nipples, missed my period ( with a little spotting ), sore and achy tummy, sore lower back, and blue veins across my boobs.
So far I have been very lucky and have had almost no morning sickness but I am expecting it soon (hopefully I am lucky and don't get any, touch wood ! ) There hasn't been any excessive urination but when I have to go I have to go! Oh, and another thing I forgot to mention, the most obvious symtomfor me is tiredness. If I am off work, I must sleep in and have a cat nap later in the day. If I am at work, eight hr shifts nearly kill me (my shifts vary from 5 to 8 hr shifts cause I work in retail). I can't believe how tired I am. Has anyone got any suggestions for keeping energy levels up? I have brekky, lunch and dinner.
Another thing I'm amazed at is how many different appt's have to be made once the Dr tells you you're pregnant, and the order they have to go in. When I got my pregnancy confirmed last week, I had to write it all down in front of her !
Anyway, goodnight, YYYAAAWWWNNN, SEE YOU SOON, TETRA :-)
Can I add myself too? Munchkin II is due on the 4th Sep. Soooooo excited!!

Girls we are going to be able to get some really good info out of our 2 2nd-time mummies...I for one am glad you're both here.
I've amended the front list but if anyone notices any mistakes feel free to point them out to me b/c at the moment my brain is a touch mushy

I'm having trouble focusing on certain tasks (work is horrible...who can concentrate for 8 hours straight with preggo brain?)
I have a cracking headache today and I've already taken panadol for it. My queasy tummy hasn't stopped and its almost driving me mental but I guess it's the price I'm willing to pay for a healthy pregnancy. I couldn't stomach taking my vitamins with breaky this morning so will try at lunchtime.

Anyway, off I trot...got some work to do...

Congratulations Ant!
MM, try taking ginger for MS. I prefer natural ginger, grated and drunk in hot water as tea. If it's too pungent for you, add a slice of lime or lemon with it. Galangal is also good for queasy tummies.
Sniffing peppermint can ease MS too. Put a couple of drops in a vapouriser or an oil burner and it will ease headaches and nausea.
Well, not a great day in the MrsTM camp today....I found a lump in my breast three weeks ago and today went for an ultrasound. They found some shadowing so the radiologist came and chatted to me and advised me to have a mammogram - despite the fact the radiation isn't good for the baby. They wrapped me in a lead apron around my abdomen to protect the baby and when the results came back they referred me to a breast specialist for a biopsy. Hopefully I can have that next week so I know either way. I'm really frightened for me and what it means for my baby. Am going to stay positive though.
On a happier note, I have the day off today and England just got a wicket in the cricket so things are looking up.

I told the Dr yesterday and he assured me that it was normal and not to worry.. he also said that I am most likely due on the 29th August, but anything 2 weeks either side is fine, so I might stick in here still if ok with you lovely ladies!

However then she ruins it when I call her to say thank you. She is demanding that I tell my brother. We have only told the parents which is where the problem lies. My parents are divorced and she resents my dad knowing but not my brother. We had a huge fight earlier in the year about how she likes to control my life. Today she told me I had to tell my brother but it was up to us who else we tell, her excuse is that he was more of dad than what my dad is! I just want to strangle her sometimes!!! We aren't ready to tell anyone else just in case.

Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone knows what a "shared care" doctor is? My female Dr I see, who also confirmed my pregnancy last week, and who gave me all the info on what to do next, is a shared care Dr but she is leaving the practice on the 12th Jan, and she said there is another female Dr replacing her but she is not sure if she is shared care. If she isn't then what do I do?
This is the order of things that I have to do, in the way of tests and ultrasounds:
1) Dating u/s at 8-10wks (to confirm accurately how far along I am)
2) Straight after that, a blood test at the practice for things like HIV, Thalassemia, etc
3) Nuchal Translucency (between 11-13 weeks)
4) 18 wk u/s
5)Book into antenatal clinic at RPAH Women and Babies, Sydney
Should I be booking the antenatal clinic earlier? She said not to because they don't see most women before 20 weeks. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this? Also, how will I know who delivers my baby (RPAH is a public hospital)
Thanks, bye, Tetra :-)

Tetra: If its public you wont know who delivers your baby, not until the day/night.
Check if the hospital has a midwife program, ring up the birth centre and ask. The RoyalWOmans in brisbane has a couple of midwife programs, phoenix & pegasus You need to sign up early for them, but what it means is that each visit you see a midwife and not a doctor. You see a doctor twice.
I remember the waits to get in to see the doctors was HUGE, but I would never have to wait long to see a midwife as there were less women in the midwife program. You also have more of a chance that you are going to know someone who may deliver your baby, as there is a roster of midwives and you are likely to see each oen more than once.
Shared care doctor means you dont have to go into the hospital for all your visits, you will see your doctor for some of them, ie blood pressure/weight/, but will have to go into the hospital for particular weeks visits.
Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for that JustDee, it just seems all sooo confusing because there is so much to take in at once. When I have my baby, even though I won't know who delivers my baby, who will be there? Will there be a doctor, midwife, or one or the other? What I'm wondering is how many people will be in the room when I'm giving birth?

morning all
congrats and welcome to ant what an exciting journey we are all on.
MrsTM my thoughts are with you and l have everything possible to cross crossed for you.
Went to the Dr yesterday (l swapped over to the ob within the clinic l was already going to when we started the baby journey) and he confirmed that yes we are having a baby - was nice to hear someone else say it. As he was congratulating me l got a bit emotional as he was the first to congratulate me as hubby has never actually said congratulations - (apart from you guys of course).
We just went through all the family histories and background details, he has given me a thing for a blood test which l might go and get today and l will be seeing him once a month now on, so l've made the next two appointments. We discussed the 12 week scan and a few bits, he hasn't recommended me to take vitamins or anything beyond the folate if my diet is good and l eat heaps of fruit and veg so for now l'm happy not taking anything else. He was very nice, l'd only had a quick appointment with him 6 months ago to get my implanon removed and didn't really talk to him much as l was in the process of chancing Dr's.
I've been very lucky no real MS, just a slight queezy feeling occasionally so just these breast of lead to deal with. I looked at bras yesterday but l'm still fitting into a couple of good ones l bought a couple of months ago so l'm going to weight a little bit longer to see how big they might grow??? I'm finding that although l'm tired during the day l'm waking up early and l'm wide awake, l used to be able to roll over and fall back to sleep but now l just lie there, so l'm getting up a bit early which l guess will be good when l'm back at work
Hubby is getting better, he will do things for me saying nice little things about l need to be looking after his baby (yes his

) and if he is being smart he calls me his little incubator which for him that's never been big on cute names or anything is sweet. He told me he is going to get me a couple of books next week when he is in Ballarat for work, so l'm holding off going and buying some this week even though l'm actually still on holidays and have time to be sitting around reading them this week? Might have to get a magazine to tide me over and l've got a few more internet sites in my favorites now that help tide me over as well.
Alright it's going to be a hot day here so l am going to get into town and do my list of jobs early and then l can get back home to the air conditioner, so see you all later

Hi all,
This morning I'm starting to think I was imagining things for the last few days...I woke up feeling like I had a cold and feeling gross and ended up with a cracker of a headache, had a cup of tea before I left to catch the train for work. Now I'm at work and I feel ok...still a tiny headache but nothing at all like yesterday and no queasiness. Beginning to think I was imagining things yesterday and that I'm not UTD at all...well I guess time will tell throughout the day as to how I feel.
Going for another blood test on Saturday - as ordered by my doc - to ensure the hcg levels are still rising...hope so.
Does anyone else ha ve massive blue veins on their bb's?? Mine are raised a little...starting to look like someone has drawn all over my chest with a permanent marker

Morning girls!
Samc - you mentioned that you had spotting also, how often did you have it? My Dr says that it is normal, but it freaks me out to see any discolouration when I go to the loo and I am sure that it cant be a good thing. Should I get a second opinion? Is there anything that they can do to check that it is all ok and set my mind to rest??
MM - I hope that your test levels are going well

Tetra - I am just as confused as you about the Dr situation. When I went to see my normal Dr the other night he didnt seem to think that he had much of a role in it at all, which concerns me as I need to see someone that I trust that will set my mind at ease. However hospital talk - my friend is going piblic in RBWH and she has met all the midwives that will be attending her birth (she is not using the suites, just the public maternity ward) so when she goes into labour she will have previously met the people delivering her baby.
Thanks Raelene - I will look into new Bras soon I think. I am finding them so sore, that I cant even sleep on my stomach because of the pain.
