Hi everyone

H2B and I have decided that we'd like to have a Gourmet BBQ for our reception, with relaxed atmosphere (everyone's been to a BBQ and knows the do's and dont's). Our families are not the 'formal' type and we think everyone would enjoy the 'celebration' more this way.

We hope to find somewhere with open air space (like a deck) as well as some covered area (as the bad weather back up). Any ideas on somewhere like this in Brissy are welcomed?!?!

Ideally we'd have nice outdoor timber tables with no strict place settings (but still decorated) for dinner and some alternate break out area with lounges or comfy chairs for drinks and chat following the dinner. We envisage fairy lights in willow and/or candles to decorate and some form of live music to help set the mood.

Anyone been to something like this before? Or have comments or ideas on deco's, venue's, theme, etc?

All input welcomed.

methyr bowls club at new farm is on the river and has a big outdoor deck area, as well as the inside club bit with a bar. its a gorgeous location and they have gourmet bbq packages. cant remeber exactly how much per head but it isnt too extreme, and the drink prices are very reasonable. we looked into this for our engagment party but it was booked for every date we wanted.

good luck! biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Thanks to you all for your positive comments and reinforcements that if this is what we want, then we should go for it.

coco_rose.... thank you for your wonderful suggestion, I'll have to check out the bowls clubs as I hadn't thought of there (although I know of it).

witchie_kenworth.... a hall is a great idea too. Finding one with a touch of class may be an issue, but definitely worth checking out (may be a more cost effective solution too!)

You've all got comments that have started the creative juices flowing... thanks again.

Hi,

We will be having a gourmet bbq for our 2nd reception when we fly home to SA it will be on the coast at the winery overlooking the sea, can't wait. I won't be going overboard with decorations or table setting but will have some nice things around but I don't think it wil be neccesary to have place settings for guests they can sit where ever they please.

Goodluck with the plans they sound gr8 so far.

hi we want the gourmet barbie also, ( with caterers ) but were only having 30 guest , so we have decided to hire a holiday beach house and everyone will just have to find accomadation, maybe you could do the same thing how many guest have you got coming ?? so far we have worked out a prestige house is approx $600 anight and a bbq cost approx $50per person but were in nsw and we will all be traveling to our destination good luck

We are planning on approx. 60 - 80 guests.... and that is only immediate family and our closest friends!

jsdrpeat...the holiday beach house sounds lovely. Unfortunately for us we'd need a holiday beach mansion to fit everybody tongue.gif

Thats what I wanted ot do for ours. Have a big spit roast and lovely veg and salads and bit tables and fairy lights and things but it hasn't happened. Our biggest problem was finding somewhere to do it.

Hop eit all works out. There are some fantastic catering companies that do the gormet bbq"s

Hi LuckyinLove,

We had our wedding at the Alehouse at the XXXX Brewery at Milton. They do gourmet BBQ style meals, as well as fingerfood options, or proper sit-down meals - whatever you want. The Alehouse has big copper bars, and wooden furniture -so doesn't need much decoration. there's an outdoor area, as well as room for a dancefloor. prices are very reasonable too. we had 90 guests and there was plenty of room for us. PM me if you want any more info. the staff were awesome, and looked after us really well!

good luck finding the perfect place,

Shona
