I'd really love some outside opinions on this one...
My H2B and I have just started seriously looking for our wedding venue, and I am stuck deciding between a garden wedding or a beach wedding.
Originally I was against having a beach wedding, as it seems like everyone is doing them these days (the two girls in my circle of friends who are married have both had beach weddings!) and I really wanted to mine to be different... but when I started looking around at venues and checking out other peoples wedding photos, I found that I really liked the look of a beach wedding. I was thinking of perhaps not having the ceremony on the actual beach, but perhaps on a headland overlooking the ocean, or even in a park within close proximity to the beach - and then on to a reception venue (probably a restaurant) also overlooking the water. I chose my wedding colour as aqua, and for my flowers I would have frangipani's, which I thought worked it beautifully with the beach theme. Because I live in Brisbane, we would need to travel to get the kind of beautiful beach I want, so that means the wedding would either be at the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast... the average drive from Brisbane being 1-2 hrs. I didn't think this would be a problem, but as soon as I told people where I wanted to have it, I got so much negative feedback! From my uncle "But she lives in Brisbane, why should we have to travel for the wedding?", from my dad "So you obviously don't want many people to come then..." and there were others who agreed with them. My mum pointed out how much hassle it would be for them to get there as we have a family owned business and "the business can't shut down just because you're getting married, we'd have to travel down on the Friday night, blah blah blah".
After all this I decided maybe I should rethink, and go with the garden wedding idea... there are lots of beautiful places up a Mt Tamborine, which is a closer drive for everyone from Brisbane. The only thing I keep thinking is that if I do that I won't get my beautiful photos on the beach, and I don't want to regret that in years to come... plus I would have to rethink my colours and flowers, as I don't think what I had previously chosen would fit in as well in the different location. I just don't know what to do.
Do I stick to the beach wedding idea and just say "stuff anyone who doesn't like it!" or do I change my location to have a garden wedding up on the mountain, which means I'll be different from my friends like I wanted... but no pretty beach photos!
I'm so confused! I like the idea of both - I want a beach wedding and I want a garden wedding... can I have two?!
Also it seems like I need to decide pretty soon as a few places that I have made enquiries with have already been booked for the date we have chosen!
Any opinions would be much appreciated!!
