Wow - i was actually thinking about going there a bit today, although didnt have the energy.
Kate S

Do you have to stay there til 6.30???
What do you mean you dont have the energy for ebay?
I never buy... but I love looking.
Theres some guy selling these crap painting for $14 & $16mil. Some stuff is hilarious.
Id never admit to owning some of it, let alone trying to sell some of it!

Ok..can I get some opinions on an idea that we had regarding invitations..
We went invitation shopping last weekend, and although we found some we liked, we couldnt decide...
While we were walking out of the shop, I jokinly said to Neil..we should just do up a website as an invitation and let our guests know the website address and they can go there to check out all the details..
he actually liked the idea, and so did my mum which i was shocked about.
The website will include a story of us, piccies etc...all wedding details, where/when etc... accomodation details, flight details for those coming from o/s and interstate..touristy things to do while up there...and a guestbook, so our guests can leave us messages about what music they want played at the reception etc...
We will send out save the date cards with the website address on it to the guests... Neil is pretty good with computer type things so it should work out pretty cool
does anyone think this is a good idea, or tacky??

Hi Girls,
Welcome Chloe and Michelle!! We now have to Michelle's on here - Ellerson and Princess Belle!
I have no idea what the going rate for a celebrant is???? We finally confirmed our Church last week, but I'm still waiting for the letter which outlines all the bits and pieces (presumably including the cost!!).
Michelle, your invitation idea sounds really good. Very different, which is nice. The only thing to consider is if you have any friends/relatives you're inviting that don't have access to a computer. Most people these days do, but I know some of my relatives would'nt. You'd also have to make it clear on the Save the Date cards that the website is the invitation, so people don't wait and wonder why no paper invo has been sent. If you go with, I can't wait to see the end product!! One of my BM's was going to set their invitation up on a computer disc and post that. Unfortunately they ran out of time, but I thought it was a good idea.
Laurette, you must be buggered with the extra hours you're working this week!! Enjoy your sleep in !!
Better go, prying eyes are often checking out internet use around here!!

Hi Lovelies,
Well just got back from my long lunch started at 11 finished at 3.30 we all had too much wine to drink but have solved the worlds problems.
There is nothing a woman can not solve when you give them wine a good meal etc according to my friends we now have world peace,no starvation and have come up with some great weight lose ideas also (hic).
Anyway Ellerson I like the idea of your invites but still think some ppl will want to see the written ones.Make sure you tell us when its up and running so we can have a sticky.
Well I have to go as Im working in friends restaurant tonight (because I have a big mouth and she asked me at one of my weak moments).
Have a good weekend all see you next week.

Hiya everyone!!!
Yay! Michelle! Congrats on picking 18th March too

I have no idea how much a celebrant costs but we are paying $760 for our church (for just 80mins!!!) but that includes altar flowers and organist. Alex's family priest will be marrying us and since he is a close friend of his family will be attending the reception that night. Other than that, I don't think there are any other costs... I hope!!! We too will be doing a pre-marriage course through the church with the father. We've already had a 2 hour coffee catch up with him. He's the most coolest priest I have ever met. Said the word 'bonk' a few times (!!)
Wow, michelle - you're so organised! OKay twinnie - looks like I need to catch up! Haven't even thought about invitations yet. I like your internet idea and I think kathy's points are really valid. Also, would you be able to limit the number of ppl going if everyone you know will be able to see the invite on the internet? I don't know if you have the same problems as us - we have too many guests and need to keep numbers down.
Where is everyone based? I'm in Melbourne but getting married in Brissie (sorry if I've already mentioned this?... its a friday and I have no brain left...)

Hi Jo!
Just had a quick squizz at your photos - loving your ring!!!

May 20 2005, 05:28 PM
Saffire -
Hopefully we can make the website members only, so we can give everyone passwords, not too sure how that would work...I dont want everyone in the world surfing the net who reads it thinking they are invited and attending the wedding!
The idea of the save the date card is so that they have a date in writing, most of them should know it anyway..and all of the major details will be on the www
Anyway its just an idea, we still have to see whether we can pull together a website, hope so otherwise we will be sending out some very rushed paper invites!
Im Currently living in melbourne but getting married on Magnetic Island in nth qld..
Cheers, Michelle
PS a glass of wine sounds perfect will go pour myself a glass now..

What on earth were you still doing up at 5am? You're crazy.
Well, my big achievement was that I tried my dress on - I am not going to share the pics though because they are fricking terrible and I dont want anyone to see them. Needles to say that I got up this morning and went for a big walk.

After seeing Michelle's idea for invites has anyone else come up with a different idea for invites?
Here are some that I have seen over the years:
Jigsaw puzzle-The invite is cut into pieces for the guest to put together.
News paper-Invite is printed out like the front page of a paper.
Balloon-Invite is printed on a balloon. The guests has to blow it up.
Life over the years-This one has photos of B/G around the sides of invite from birth to now.
Just a few

I think that the idea of the website is a fab one, although I know that for us it wouldnt be practical. I think that you would have to think about how many of your guests might not have internet access.
Also - would you be able to protect it from internet searches, so that then every time a Bride to Be searches on 'wedding invitations' she doesnt hit your page? Is that possible?
I am not much of a computer genius, so these are things that might be completely wrong - you can tell me to get back in my hole if you want.
I like the idea of the 'life over the years' one.
I have also seen a company that do invites like a magazine. I would really like to do this, although they it seems a little out of my price range. I will have to try and find a picture of the invites that I am having - they are going to be a bit like a book - hard to explain I know. Each part (ie ceremeony, reception, rsvp, register etc) will have its own page to call home. I will look for a pic today.
I also like the idea of having a CDROM or DVD invitations, which is all well and good, though I know some of our guests would not be able to view it.
---
May 23 2005, 10:19 AM
Thanks Larette, yeah it would be a problem of everyone on the net having access to the page

so hopefully we can put passowrds or something like that on it. Neil is a computer nerd so hopefully he can work something out hehe. I think most of our guests have internet access, except perhaps for the grandparents so we could send them an invitation by snail mail.
Cd invitations are a great idea as well.
whatever way we go, we definately want the guests input for choosing music etc, as we are not having a band, just playing cd's
Well hope everyone has a great week

May 23 2005, 10:26 AM
Hi Ellerson,
When you send out your save the date cards you could put a pass word on it along with asking them to add songs to play at wedding.
Even though we arent invited can you tell us the web site when its complete so we can have a sticky.

Hello twinnies (and Mum!!),
I also had a, shall we say, "wine appreciation" evening on Saturday night. Unlike Chloe, I was in no state to report on the favourable attributes on the wine I drank - not good with typing when the letters swim before my eyes!
Laurette, so you finallyyyy tried your dress on! And we don't get to see the piccies

. Is it not quite what you were hoping for or do you not like it on you? Was anyone else with you to give you opinions?
Michelle, the password on the STD cards sound like a really good idea. To get song suggestions from your guests, maybe they can put "requests" somewhere on your invite website?? Don't know how it would work, but if H2B is a techo, he should be able to sort something out. Very handy these techo boys!
I spent most of the weekend running around buying all our engagement stuff. I took your advice girls and found a shop that sells good plastic plates, cutlery etc for a reasonable price. They also do fresh salads at a heaps cheaper price than what I was quoted from chicken/take-away shops. It all helps!!
Jo.

Yeah of course if the whole website thing works out I will share with you ladies
I like the idea of a jigsaw intive too, also very creative
Once I get back to melbourne (hopefully in a week or 2) I will also attempt at putting my ideas on here to share with everyone. Not that I have that many at the moment. Cant wait til July for mum to come so we can start trying on dresses.
Im glad I got my motivation back..

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd ask, has anyone used or considered using a wedding co-ordinator/planner?
They sound so expensive but it might be worthwhile cos I'm organising this from interstate and its proving to be difficult...
---
May 24 2005, 05:42 PM
Hi Saffire. I am also planning my wedding from interstate. Luckily I have a wonderful mummy up in Nth Qld who does all the running around for me. She really should be my bridesmaid, cos the other 2 dont do anything! But thats another story..
Also the woman in charge of the resort where we are having the reception will co-ordinate what I want closer to the date

How exciting and also very twin-like

I will be back in Brissie for a weekend in June but I now realise since we'll only be back on the saturday and sunday, most places aren't open. We'll just have to do as much as we can!
What have you organised so far? This thread has been really good for keeping me on my toes with how much I have and haven't already done!

Hi There girls...
Just thought I would come back in and see how you all are!!!
And let you all know that we have found the bridesmaid dresses and shoes... the dresses we found first shop we went into, which was great

Shoes we found today, not as easy as I thought, but we got them... and at a great price too

I've posted a full report in the March 25th 2006 thread... just as to whats been going on, eg, dramas with bridesmaid etc...
Sorry I haven't been around much - loving this whole holiday thing

Don't think I will be wanting to go back to work next tuesday!
Have an appointment with the florist tomorrow... so hopefully all will go well with that...
As promised here is the link to my photos... has the bridesmaid dress in it, only a scanned pic from the catalogue she gave me, it's the same colour as pictured but in the picture it doesn't quite have the same effect - it's lettuce green, quite a pale green - so ellegant and gorgeous - even if I do say so myself!!! And even better, the dresses looked stunning on all bridesmaids!!!
Alicia's PhotosI also have pics of my makeup trial in there... let me know what you think?! I love the way she did my makeup, but my goodness looking back on the photos now how chubby do my cheeks look

Will put up more photos etc later, didn't have much time tonight as we are going out to dinner tonight and I need to get ready

Well girls, hope all is going well with all of you... will be back soon to report more - once I get back to work I will definately be online a lot more

Love Alicia xx

We have only so far booked the reception place and celebrant.
I will hopefully get my dress organised in July when mum comes to melb. After I decide on how formal my dress is, I can start organising BM's dresses. Its only a beach wedding so something toooo formal may look a bit silly.
sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming about how much there is to organise, lucky it is a casual wedding, I couldnt imagine trying to organise a formal one.

Hi Leesha!
Love your BM dresses

Make up looks terrific!
Elleson - My mum is coming down over the long weekend in June and I've already booked a whole heap of appointments at bridal salons. Let me know what you're looking for and maybe I can recommend a few. Some are definitely more formal than others (and some are extremely more pricey than others!)
---
May 24 2005, 06:19 PM
Alica I love your BM dresses, great length and the colour is stunning.
Good luck with the flowers tomorrow
ps. you so dont look chubby AT all in them pics, you look great
---
May 24 2005, 06:22 PM
Thanks Saffire I might take you up on that as I have no idea where to start with bridal stores.
Im not looking at anything too formal, or expensive(!!) I cant justify spending thouusands on a dress I will wear once
Designer name dresses mean nothing to me so I dont care who makes the dress etc.
Thanks
Saffire
May 24 2005, 06:25 PM
Ellerson I'd have to say I agree with you!
(Actually my mum is going to make my dress but we still need to pick a design)
I'm going to check out the MH discounted clearance store. They do alterations on whatever they have in there for sale. I'll let you know whether that's worth checking into!
Many of my gfs spent very little on their dresses (one of them spent $50! and hers was also a beach wedding

)
(oops edited to remove name of store!)

Thanks girls.. glad to hear you both approve

Yes, the bridesmaid dresses are stunning, exactly what I had in mind, and it was even more perfect that we were able to get them in the first shop that we went into... in 3-4 months I should have them! How exciting.... it all feels like it is coming together now !!!'
Saffire - good luck in June with all of those appointments you have booked .
Do you know what sort of dress you are looking for?
Ellerson - I agree, wedding dresses do not need to be expensive, especially considering the small amount of time you actually get to wear it. You can find some absolutely stunning dresses that will not cost you the earth! Good luck in finding the perfect dress for you

Saffire - I'm almost a twinnie with you and the others, mine's on Sunday 19th (the Monday is a public holiday down here in Canberra).
So far I have my dress, BM dresses, reception and ceremony booked. I'm a bit over it at the moment so don't think I'll do anything else for a while...oops, I've also booked the celebrant, cost me $330 (I think someone was asking about this earlier).
Not much else happening in princess land

Hi guys!!!
The honeymoon has been booked because we are using our frequent flyer points to go.... all the way around the world!!! Here are the details Jo

We're going to Hong Kong for 2 days, then on to paris for about 2 weeks, then London for a couple of days, then to New York for a week, and Los Angeles for about 3 days... then back to Brisbane.
I've never been to Europe before and H2B has only been OS to Asia once so this trip will be so exciting for the both of us. Now we're going to have to aggressively save save save so we can afford to eat over there!

Ellerson we're going 2 days after the wedding - gives us a couple of days to spend with rellies who have flown down for the event...
Princess Jess - Yay! another twinnie! Wow, I haven't even finalised my BM's - you're really organised

We've booked reception, Church, Priest, and photographer. I'm going looking for dresses with my mum in a few weeks time (she is going to make my dress - to save money and cos she's a great sewer!). What's your dress like? Pictures?!?
Leesha - what flowers are you having? Tell Tell
---
May 25 2005, 09:26 AM
wow im very jealous saffire - your honeymoon sounds amazing... I have always wanted to go to Paris and see the tower..Think of me when you see it lol
