Hey girls

Well, I had a long weekend and was home yesterday, so I wrote out the guestlist in full and so on, counted it up and it worked out at 193 people. I almost fell over, I really did. I rang mum who yelled at me.

My last post about my mum being really cute with all the wedding planning is no longer applicable. She has turned into some sort of mad woman.... Sigh. I am a bit over it at the moment.

So she expects us to get the list down to 120. I doubt it very much mum - I really do. I tried to cross some people off, but that only got down to 150. So I might push that number, see how we go.

Today I just cant wait to get home to H2B and have a big hug with him.

Wow! I'm impressed! We too are thinking March 2006, but we haven't even found a definite venue yet, let alone fixed a definitive date, or booked any of those other things! Is this really how far in advance we need to plan????

Hi Aphra,
Most people start booking places 12months from wedding date. The first date my daughter wanted the church already had three bookings and reception venue was booked and payed for for that date as well so we went for the second date 18-3-06 and i booked both church and reception venue straight away.I will be paying the deposits in april when we're down there for the engagement party.Other than that she has hairdresser, makeup artist, nail tech booked and she had a meeting with dress maker for b/m dresses on sunday 20th.She is also getting her wedding gown from USA a friend of the family is a dress maker over there and has offered to make the dress as wedding present. We have wedding favours organized and i baught 96 bubble bottles from ebay they have little hearts on the lid so im going to have a verse tied to them. She has also picked out what cake and flavour and one of her b/m's mums is making this.So there isnt much more to organize but god am i glad we have 12months to do it all in.

Hi Laurette,
If you dont mind me asking who is paying for your wedding you're M/D or you or are you splitting the cost evenly between your parents you and f/h and his family? If you are paying for it have as many as you want but if your parents are footing the bill maybe you should look at cutting down the guest list.My daughters first list was 180ppl then we started culling the list.People do understand that weddings are expensive things to have these days. What we did to get the list down to 120 is cut out kids (cousins and kids of friends)then we went through again and any relitives she hasnt been in touch with in the last 12mths got chopped and we also did this with friends of ours his parents and B/G friends as well you will be surprised how quick the list comes down. She is also having a ceremony only invitation list for the people she is friends with but not that close to she is going to put in the explanation that she is only having a small reception but would love for them to come to the ceremony. She is going to organize a B-B-Q for the ppl who were not invited to reception after they get back from honeymoon.I hope this helps you start to cut that list down I know its hard as you dont want to offend anyone but they will understand and if they really get that upset and dont have anything to do with you anymore well they arent worth keeping as friends.Keep your chin up and remember the reason why you are going through all this.
Keep smiling

Laurette
Hi Kathy

Mum and step-dad are helping out a lot with the wedding. We are also going to be paying for a lot of it ourselves. H2B's parents are paying for the drinks at the reception, (which will be about the same as the rest of the reception bill, so it's fair) and the rest will be split between us and my parents.

I do agree that we need to get the list down more - It's ridicluous at the moment, as there is no way that I would be able to talk to that many people in one night anyway - it's just that we know so many freaking people! It sort of goes that 'oh, if you cut this person, then those 20 should be cut, and if you add this person, then you need to add these 50' - I know that it should be easier than this but it just isnt!

I think that we will have to contribute more to the reception cost and have the extra people there. I think that in the end we will get the list to about 160. Still about 40 too many for mum's liking.

The thing is, I have cut the list, and then told her who we have taken off, and she didnt agree with any of them - 40 all up 'oh no, well you need to invited them, really'. Some of them she didnt even know!

I am remembering why I am doing this - in the end, I am only going to be there for one reason on the day and I am only going to have eyes for one person.

We will also have a BBQ the next day, probably at the same venue, and then we will have a chance to take down all the decos from the night before and relax with people, catch up with those that we missed, and spend more time with family who have travelled and we dont get to see often.

I am sure my excitement will come back!
Kate S
We booked our ceremony venue yesterday, and our photographer last weekend (6 hrs coverage, 192 pics + album for $900 - BARGAIN!!!)

Im slowly working out of the funk Ive been in, and surprisingly, H2B is getting REALLY into it... and not just to get me off his back... ph34r.gif hes been coming up with some unreal suggestions and thats making me get really excited!

At the moment, we're working on songs - without much luck... we've got TOTALLY different ideas on what we want... and I dont want to choose songs that have been used time and again just to compromise... Im sure we'll find something tho. We're both pretty keen on "If I Aint Got You" by Alicia Keys, but neither of us can figure out if its about them breaking up and trying to get back together or what.... Have any of you heard it? If so, what are your thoughts???

Laurette
Kate,

That's fantastic news about your photographer and reception - well done! Isn't it great when h2b makes an effort to show an interest in things - and even better when he actually is interested - Glenn has been showing a bit of spark over the last month, and it's good. I hope that it continues!

These are the lyrics for the Alicia Keys song;

Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you

Some people search for a fountain
The promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them

Hand me a world on a silver platter
And what good would it be?
With no one to share, with no one who truly cares for me

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, you, you

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you

If I ain't got you with me baby
Nothing in this whole wide world don't mean a thing
If I ain't got you with me baby

I think that it would definetly be suitable for a wedding song - it's about the superficial things in life not being important - especially id you dont have each other. 'If I dont have you, what good are all these other things to me' is the message that I got from it.

I really like it.
Laurette
Hey Kate

Did you watch the Grammy's on the TV on Friday night?

No Laurette I missed it...

by that time friday night I was probably sleeping! We went camping and it RAINED all weekend. I wasnt very impressed. I dont think Ive been that bored in a very long time!!! Stuck in a tent for 20 hours a day for 4 days isnt my idea of a good weekend! Then H2b had the hide to turn around on the way home and tell me I was the most boring person to go camping with... HELLO... what the hell was I supposed to do. rolleyes.gif

Anyway... we're back home to civilisation now THANK GOD.

We're going to try the food at our reception venue sometime this week, and hopefully pay a deposit. I'm also hoping to pay the remainder off my dress, although Im nervous... I dont want to take it out of the store... I feel like its safe there. Ive got a terrible feeling something will happen to it at my sisters sad.gif

AND, my dad is meant to come over one night and fix our computer!!! YAY!!! that means more I-Do at home!!!!
luckygal05

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the forums. Where abouts are you from? How's the planning coming - tell us all about it!
Kate S
Has anyone decided on colours/ themes yet?

We are having so much trouble settling on one. We're changing our minds daily but need to hurry up so we can start looking at flowers, stationary etc etc.
Kathy W
Kate I was laughing my ass off when I read about your camping trip.Reminded me of a trip my hubby took me on 27yrs ago he also called me a boring camping mate and the best thing that came out of it was he never took me camping again.Im afraid im a girl who likes the comforts of home to much ie:hair dryer, hot shower, electricity.

Now onto wedding stuff still havent got my daughter onto this site she is very busy doing PHD and likes to stay away from computers as much as possible as she is on them all the time doing phd research.
She has color:PINK(medium)
Theme:HEARTS

These were the first ones she picked and then added different ones then we put them all in a hat and the first ones pulled out were the ones she went with.It worked for her and she hasnt changed her mind since.

Kathyxxxxxx
Laurette
Hey guys

The theme that we had picked was black white and silver. I think that it's elegant, and it's very 'me'. I woudl suit me down to the ground.

But then there was the thing where I was worried about putting the girls in black dresses outside, as I didnt think that it would really work, ie be too heavy.

Then I thought that I might wear a blue dress (still thinking this, although have moved on to blue/silver/grey).

I really dont know what on earth I am doing - I have no idea. I am the same as you, I desperately want to pick a theme, so that I can start buying and organising the little things now, mainly to minimise the costs that are all going to be lumped together closer to the day. Urgh.

I think that I like Kathy's idea of drawing out of a hat.

Kate S
At the moment we are thinking a medium pink and mint green, which i love, but the only thing thats stopping me being all for it is we get seat covers with gold bows at the reception, and pink, green and gold is wrong on way too many levels. Im also having a garden ceremony and dont want anything too ritzy. Its hard trying to find the happy meduim between over the top and too casual.

Also, my sister has (gorgeous dark, deep) red hair, and pale skin, which limits the colours I can put her in. I think the Lime green will work, but we need to actually go out and try dresses on and figure out what "works" on her.
Laurette
Hmm, red hair and pale skin - that is going to be somewhat difficult. Blue and Black will always work, as will green I think.

I guess that I am lucky - I have two dark-haired BM's and one somewhere in the middle of brown and blonde.

I love the idea of green and pink together, and agree that gold wouldnt look fantastic - silver as a metal tone would be much better.
Kate S
They only offer gold ties on the chairs. Other than that Id have to pay, and its something ludicris like $6 a chair.

Ive also been thinking about the function room and my dress, both of which are quite formal, and dont know if such vibrant and fun colours would work. I know that sounds daft, but I think theyre more casual colours for a cocktail reception, or... I dont know... I just dont think they'll work at my function centre.

So to that end, I have decided on a chocolate and ivory theme (my dress is Ivory).

Chocolate dresses will work on my sister, and we're 99% set on cocktail length and will be both casual enough for the garden, and classy enough for the reception. Ive entertained the thought of chocolate before and didnt get too into it, but now I think about it more, its really the only colour scheme thats going to fit in.

My mum is dead against white / ivory flowers tho, so Id need to somehow work in another colour for detail.

Ive already done sample invites with spare card and ribbon I had at home - which just happened to be ivory (card) and brown (ribbon) and H2B commented on the colours and I brushed him off, thinking pink and green were definates.

Laurette
Oh, Kate, that sounds FANTASTIC. Have you checked out the photo's of Siobhan1980's photos that Titch posted?

She had cocktail length brown dresses for her BM's, and it looked fantastic. They had pale pink as the other colour - this is something that you could use for your flowers. It will work with chocolate brown on a red head, and looks so classy. You could have pale pink, or hot pink - both would look great. I personally would be partial to pale pink - roses and sweet peas is what I envision.

Imagine how long this thread is going to be by the time that we get to the wedding! and then back from the wedding! my goodness....
Kate S
I'll have to check out siobhans pics!

Its funny how little things like this can really get you excited again. I hit a wall a few weeks ago, and felt like ive been treading water since, but this has opened up so many new doors! ( LOL - how many cliches are in that sentance!).

Thanks Laurette! It makes things so much easier when youve got someone to brainstorm with.

Cant wait to get home and tell H2B...
Laurette
Now I need a colour theme....

Sigh.

I bet that he will be just as excited - although dont mention that 'remember it was actually your idea first a while back?' - he doesnt need to know this. If he brings it up, pretend like you never heard him the first time!

The thing that I am looking forward to the most is making the invites and the napkin rings. How sad.

I really want Black and White and Silver, so I will have to investigate this further and find a way to make it work.
Kathy W
Laurette,
What if you have the girls in silver cocktail dresses I seen this at a wedding not long ago and it looked lovely the girls had black shoes and black choker necklaces with a black flower sitting to the side of necklace. And your groomsmen could have silver vest to match b/m's dresses with white shirts so there are your three colors. Now for flowers you could throw in some pink or red as these two colors go really good with all of the main colors you have chosen.
Kathyxxxxx

Hope i havent made your choice even harder!
luckygal05
hi there

thanks for all your replies....... kate leesha and laurette. i don't think i am as organised as anyone else on this forum it took me ages to find the venue i wanted. am from sydney and so far all i have organised is the reception venue oh and i know i want oriental lillies for flowers. i keep thinking its a year away though i know it will go so quickly. where are you all from?
Kathy W
Hi Lucky,
Welcome to march 2006 maddness.Yes it will go very quickly before you know it we will be celebrating xmas/new year and then 3 months after that all of you girls will be getting married. My daughter is getting married on the 18th and we are planning like there is no tomorrow. She is in Armidale nsw and im in Qld so not alot of hands on planning but phone and emails are daily.Anyway as i said welcome and looking forward to seeing your plans.
Kathyxxxxx
Kate S
OK its confirmed.

We're having brown with ivory and either champagne/pink.

H2b is happy, so is mum and my sister and I AM TOO!!!!

YAY!!!! Now I can start to work on flowers and invites! I cant wait to start my invites!!!

Lucky, Im from Wollongong.

Laurette, what is your dress/reception venue like. what colours "work" with them? Thats what made my mind up. Cos my dress is ivory, and the reception centre has that formal feel, I had to choose complemenary colours to that.

I originally wanted black, but it was pointed out that guests often wear black now, and I didnt want my girls to blend in with guests (although Im runnig that risk with brown too I suppose). Still, if you team it with a contrasting colour like silver or somthing, it would really work.

I am from South Australia...

I know how you feel - whilst I have organised quite a bit I've also been engaged for over a year already so I really haven't done very much!!!! I keep thinking, I've got plenty of time aswell.

So what are you going to look into next hon?
Laurette
Hi Lucky

I am from Temora, NSW - although originally from Wollongong (wish I was there so I could have the reception at the Novotel and have pics on the beach - sigh).

I havent picked a dress or anything really! We are having our reception at the local golf club (h2b is very involved out there) and it's just a plain room painted pink with windows over the golf course and the bar at one end. Not real thrilling!

I was also thinking about putting the girls in silver, or more likelyl gun metal grey (metallic). We will just have to try them all and see what works best on them. I think that a light silver would wash them out (some of them).

I really want to get going on these invites and making things!

The Riverina Bridal fair is on in June - so I will go to that and hopefully get some ideas and that will be crunch time - it's all on from there.

Kate, your colour choice sounds DIVINE. Absoloutely beautiful.

I cant wait to enjoy the planning with your and see it all come together, and then after that see the photos from the big day!

Laurette
Kate S
Laurette where in Wollongong are you from? Ive lived here my whole life...

Id guarantee there is 6 degrees of separation between us...

How weird!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laurette
Kate - I know - tell me about it!

I lived in Kanahooka when I was born, then mum and dad split up. Dad lives in town (top block of Evans Street - close to everything). When mum remarried we live in Towradgi - on Towradgi road, diagnoally opposite the pink corner shop, towards the beach from the rail way station. They built a new house there.

Then about 8 years ago, we moved to Old Junee and I lived on a farm while I did high school. My brothers would barely remember Wollongong! I moved to Temora when I finished school, as thats where I got a job!

I think that I will have to come down there sometime soon and not tell any family, and just have a meet up with the Wollongong i-do girls!

My grandparents live at Figtree, in Walang ave, which is faily close to the highway.

My step-dads parents live in a retirement villiage in Gerringong, and my aunty and uncle live in Gerringong too.

My mums brother and his family live in Dapto.

Wow - where abouts are you?

Kate S
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sister used to live in the house connected to the corner shop (on the train station side!)

We live in East Corrimal now, and all our family are 'northerners' (We all went to Bulli or Woonona High)

My best friend when I was a little tacker moved to Kanahooka when we were about 7. Her name is Kirsten and she has younger twin brothers. She went to Harris Park (??) primary (wont elaborate further)

Goodness... isnt this odd!!!

Kathy W
Ok March girls I need your opinion on this song for bridal dance
Its by Led Zeppelin now i know they usually sing heavy rock but this is a ballad and it is such a meaningful song let me know what you all think of the lyrics then if possible try to listen to it then you will get the full affect of the song.

THANKYOU........LED ZEPPELIN
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea
there will still be you and me.

Kind woman I give you my all
Kind woman, nothing more.

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain
tears of loves lost in the days gone by.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.

And so today, my world it smiles
your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you it will be done
for you to me are the only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness....I'm glad.
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea
there will still be you and me.

Let me know what you think so i can add it to my daughters collection of songs she is thinking of using.

Kathyxxxxxxx
Kate S
Its GORGEOUS Kathy!

Beautiful wording.

I want a rocky ballad (if that makes sense lol) for our bridal waltz.
Laurette
Oh Kathy - that sounds fantastic - they are fantastic lyrics!

Like Kate, I also want something rocky, a ballad without being too whimsical for my bridal waltz. I am thinking of 'She's the One' - Robbie W or 'When I see you smile' by Bad English.

Might see if I can find a web clip of it and have a listen!

Kate, that is so weird! We used to live at #56 in Towradgi Road, and I went to Towradgi Primary before moving to Old Junee. Never went to school in Kanahooka.

I used to go to Corrimal all the time - shopping with mum at the mall and to the pool. And one of my dads exs lived in Corrimal. Weird hey.

We'll definetly have to meet up when I can get there for a weekend!

Cheers,

Laurette
Kate S
I LOVE When I See You Smile!!! Its gorgeous! Thats the same style as I want.

Matt (H2B) wants something "with a beat"... whatever that means??? rolleyes.gif

We both still like If I aint got you, but its just a bit... I dont know...

Laurette
I am going to email Lisa and see if we can't get a fast reply button in this forum...

Our Reception Venue

This is our venue.
Laurette
The Illawarra Leagues Club hey.... my god. My dad is an institution in that place. As in he never leaves. Ever. Maybe he goes home when they shut to sleep a bit. Then round the corner to Napoli to get pizza every now and then.

I am a member of that club.

Oh, but I couldnt open the page? I only noticed where it was because of the address came up.

I have been a member of that place since the week that I turned 18. Dad joined me up. I have had thousands of meals there over the years. Literally.

Crikey. I think maybe its about 5 degrees of separation now.

I used to be SO IN LOVE with a staff member there when I was about 15. His name was Adrian. Sigh. He was gorgeous, but about double my age.
Laurette
The reason that the page wont open is that you have two http:// in there - one needs to be deleted
Kate S
try this
Kate S
How funny!

MMMM.... napoli... havent been there in years.

I never thought that the function room would be as nice as it is when I walked in. And I was always really aprehensive about having it in a leaguies or rsl, but you cant compete with the prices they have, and we needed something central cos we have stacks of out of towners.

Im happy with it!

Let me know if you know of any horror stories tho, wont you!!!

Laurette
Kate, I love the ILC.

I have never been to a function there, but downstairs is ALWAYS great - everyone is so friendly and happy and there is a fantastic atmosphere.
Dancing Girl
Hi March twinnies!!!

I posted when Kate first started the thread and only just checked back in today. WOW!!! We have some serious March '06' action happening. It's very exciting - and I'm loving that my ticker is finally ticking down!!

So far we have booked the reception, organised my dress and the BM's dresses.

The dresses have only been done this quickly because my mother is going to be my MOH and she lives in Perth (I'm in Sydney) and she was over from Perth for a couple of weeks earlier this month (and probably won't be back before the wedding), so I needed to get her and the BM's done while she was here and she also wanted to be a part of my dress search.

What we REALLY need to do is organise the ceremony!!!! It's only the most important bit!! There are two churches we really like, and we just have to book in with one of them. Hopefully we can sort that out this weekend.

Looking forward to sharing plans with you twinnies over the next 12 months!! How many pages do you think we can get this thread up to????

Jo.

Kathy W
Jo I think that is lovely that your having your mum as MOH what a great idea.Looking forward to seeing how your plans are coming along.
Kathyxxxxxxx
Kathy W
Kate,
Just checked out your reception venue looks great.Have you picked any menus yet.
Kathyxxxxx
Kathy W

Finally have a picture of my daughters Reception Venue

It is on the grounds of the university new england a very historical building will suit her wedding as she wants it to be very traditional.
kathyxxxx
Leesha
Well I thought I would post my Reception Venue too... this website is rather old, and the reception centre main room (that I am having) just had big $$$ spent on renovations (It even has a bit drop down screen so everyone can see us, and cameras continually scan the room all night and it goes up on the screen - in which gets receorded to dvd,a nd we get a copy at the end of night)... It's gorgeous now, so modern and so ellgeant!!!

Here yah go smile.gif

Jo > I think that is so beautiful you are having your Mother and your MOH!!! She must be thrilled and so honoured.

Kathy W
Leesha,
Reception Venue looks great the big screen is a great idea.
Kathyxxxx
Kate S
Laurette are you having any luck coming up with a colour scheme?

Whats everyone else stuck on at the moment. Im in the mood for some brainstorming!!
