We are splitting the cost of Amandas wedding three ways also. Gone are the days where the brides family pays for the whole wedding.

Our wedding only budget is about $10,000 (thats not factoring in new venue and new dress ) plus a short relaxing honeymoon.

Im not cutting corners, but not paying top dollar. I have a huge extended family, so lots of referrals and mates rates thankfully!!!

I just want it to be here already. We're at about the halfway point. We were engaged in August last year, so been engaged for 9ish months, and 10 months to go.

Im so over planning this wedding hey. Every step I take, it seems like its costing us more money. Its not like we cant afford it, I just dont want to spend more than we budgetted ($5000 for reception).

My biggest thing is that we've gotten our list down to 75ish thats basically parents, grandparents, siblings, Aunts & uncles and 1st cousins, but I still dont want that many! I feel like Im ripping off the 30 or so I actaully WANT to be there to accomodate the rest? Am I making sense?

Basically what Im trying to say is Id rather spend $100 a head for 50 people I WANT there than $50 a head on 100 people that Im expected to have?

Im with you, Im getting to the point that i just dont care anymore.

H2b family couldnt care less about our wedding and our so called friends are starting to really piss me off. They think that cause we are having the reception in a hotel that we are been too posh, its not that at all. I just want a nice wedding that im going to beable to remember forever.

At our engagement party we put that the dress was smart casual, noone from h2bs family / friends had any idea what this meant. I dont even want to think what they will wear to the wedding.

I know that im having a bit of a winge but they dont seem to have any idea and when i try to explain things to them they dont seem to want to know.

Its starting to make h2b and myself not want to invite them but we have know choice. My family are the opposite they are always talking about the wedding and suggesting things.

The thing that makes it the hardest for me is that i dont have any close female friends to talk about weddings with. I know you guys with listen and help if i need it but its not the same. I havnt have a close friend in 7 years and it really gets to me. H2b trys to understand but he has heaps of really close mate.

Bec, it sounds like your having a bit of a tough time atm. I know it's not the same, but anytime you need to "release" or "share", you know you are more than welcome on here! At least your family is excited about things. Just focus on how great you will feel walking down that aisle to the man you love!!!

Kate, the place you are looking at for your Reception looks gorgeous!! I think I may have actually been there before. My Aunt lives in Stanwell Park, so I've been down that way a fair bit. And btw, you are definitely NOT being a tight-ar$e. I agree with you, weddings are definitely a personal thing. Every one has different likes/dislikes, budgets, priorities etc. At the end of the day, you have to do what you and H2B want, because you are the ones that are going to have the lasting memories!!!

I'm with you all about the guests thing! We will be having @150 people and believe me, there is good chunk of them that I would be happy not to invite. Unfortunately, they are family and as my family is a close (and very big) one, I can't not include them. It would be all out chaos and I just couldn't be bothered dealing with it. H2B and I are paying for the whole wedding ourselves which doesn't help, but I'd rather go without the extra $$$ than have the extra stress!!!

Bec I know exactly what you mean with the whole friends thing. Ive spoken to my bestie 3 times since christmas cos shes got a new boy, and Im obviously on the outter! She did this with her last man, but I used to hound her to come out and see us, but this time Im just over it. Add to that that another girl in our group is getting married and is massively competitive, so I dont really feel comfortable talking about it with them... and my mum and sister have enough on their plates without me hassling them every 2 mins about seating arrangements etc!

Jo- we're in the same boat when it comes to family. our parents are one of 5 (my mum), 5 (my dad), 6 (his mum), and 7 (his dad - but a long story behind it!), so you can imagine the aunts and uncles alone!!! add to that cousins, and the fact that h2b and I are one of 7 and 4 respectively... Im sure you get the picture!!! Luckily, a lot of aunts/uncles are OS or dont speak to the family anymore, so that cuts numbers, and a lot of our cousins are quite young, so wont reach the 15+ age restrictions we've put on the reception!

I still havent had a chance to speak to the Cl!ffhanger yet. I dont really like my chances of getting it cheaply tho! Unfortunately it looks like we'll be heading back to the original venue with our tails between our legs!

Dont worry Bec I feel the same as you. I wish we could invite who we wanted also, but family being family we have to invite cousins etc that havent spoken to us for ages. Id rather not waste money on people who dont care much about us.

Guess what??? Our date is being changed!!!!! But, I'm still a Marchie, so that's O.K!!

We finally handed our application into the Church we want to get married in on Sunday and they rang on Monday and told me they are already booked for the 11th!! Not happy, Jan! Apparently, this is the ONLY date in March they are booked! Can you believe the luck. I had a think about it and decided that I really like the Church and would love to get married there. It just has a lovely feel to it and I can picture myself walking down that aisle and saying i-do. So, I rang around to the things I have booked - our reception place, cars and photographer to check things out. Our reception centre only had one more Saturday in March available - the 25th. The cars and photographer were both O.K with 25th. One of our cars we were having is already booked for the 25th, but they have a white car exactly the same (we had booked the two tone silver), and we're O.K with this. So, I ring back the Church and the lady pencilled me in for 25th but said the application still has to be approved by the Minister - who is on leave until next Wednesday . So, I was going to leave things as they were (on the 11th) until Minister came back and let us know if we were approved (I might have mentioned previously that they are very fussy on weddings). But then yesterday afternoon, I received a call from our Reception Centre saying somebody wants to book the 25th and is ready to hand over deposit now to secure it. So, I said, bugger it! Change ours to the 25th!!

So, the 25th March it now is!! It's a bit of a bugger because I'd kind of got used to the 11th, but it's only a couple of weeks later....and it's still March.

Anyway, that's the big news of the week for me!!!

The package also includes flower centrepieces on each table, pre-dinner cocktails and canapes, MC and after dinner port.

Guess what! I talked matt into at least thinking about the place I posted above (which is an achievement!) so I rang them. Prices were reasonable and negotiable ($65 a head + a bar tab) everything sounded awesome... then she goes, oh hang on, we've already got one booking for march let me check! So heres me going 'nah surely its not the 4th... ' but alas... it was. Matt refuses to change the date, so that place is out! Back to the drawing board AGAIN!

Also, Laurette is home from Hospital now and feeling much better!

Damn on the Reception Centre Kate... why wont h2b change the date?

Found out yesterday the the Clipsal 500 (V8 Supercars) has been moved back a week to fall on my wedding day!!! I rang Bass to confirm when I heard it and they must have thought I was a nutter, I was like "it can't be though, that's my wedding day" what was I thinking? It won't change too much but City photo locations will be out of the question as the traffic will be so bad..at least we decided not to have our reception in the City...because that would have been a terror for parking!!!
I'm ok now, thinking maybe its a good thing, cos both h2b and I are big Holden Fans... so maybe its kinda like a good luck thing Don't worry about me deliriously tired today, so i probably make no sense whatsoever.

Kate, I had another look at the site, and I read the $60 promotional package being available from months Dec - August 2005 (available UNTIL 2006). It looks to me like the Queen Elizabeth package $60 - $75 (which is exactly the same as the Promotional package) picks up from September 2005 until December 2006.

Could be wrong, but that's how I read it. Maybe they introduced the Promo package late last year to pick up any weddings organised at quick notice???

Hope I'm wrong (for your sake). Give them a call and ask what package applies for March 06.

Ive only seen him get emotional ONCE, and I saw some 'moisture' in his eyes which he quickly claimed was 'cos there was sand in his eyes' which is really interesting considering we were in the loungeroom at the time LOL (hes too blokey for that he reckons - drives me nuts) I asked him if hed 'get sand in his eyes' on the wedding day, and he said that considering we're getting married so close to the beach, theres a good chance of it!

Ive just accepted that Im not going to get anything much less than $75 a head. It does only work out $1000 more... which is a lot, but not really IYKWIM.

I must admit I do have a pretty good feeling about it!

That extra $1000 is really making it difficult for me to justify a new dress... so looks like I have to stick with my old gross one.

AND I rang the council to check that the gardens were avaiable on the 25th too, and she goes, yeah all of March is free, and I was like, no we've already gotten the permit for 4th March, and she said theres actually no record of it on the calendar, so lucky you called!

Thats what Amanda has done with everything and has payed all the deposits so noone can book her choices on the 18th I think she has spoken to the reception place that many times now their on first name basis .But as i say better to be safe than sorry.

Her reception is a package at $120ph I freaked when she said that amount but when it was broken down it made me feel a lot better.

1.Function room

2.Three coarse meal (alternate drop)plus pre dinner canapes

3.Hair styles for 6 people

4.DJ for 3 hrs

5.Wine,beer,champagne and soft drink for 5hrs

6.Table decorations + Chair covers in your color choice

7.Disposable Cameras plus developing on each table

8.Use of bridle room

9.Security passes for the whole building for photos (as its historical building you have to have passes)

10.Night for two in Bridal Suite at a local hotel

Thats all I can think of that it covers right now but it worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than getting all of these things from outside suppliers.

And a lot less hassle.

I just did another rough budget, and we're we'll and truly over our $10,000 budget.

And thats not including the $1000 or so we've already spent!

What am I going to do about this dumb dress? Should I scrimp on the venue to get a new dress, or go with the dress Ive already got, and get the venue I want???
