Hi All,
Well our engagement party was great. I'm still recovering! I am sooo tired, we are off to Bali next week so we will have time to recover then.
In the meantime, if you want to have a look, our photographer (who is also doing our wedding) has put our photos up on his website. You can see them at
http://homepage.mac.com/jamesdayphotography. We were so happy with them!
Anyway, when mum finally returns Im sure she will fill you in on the goss. I need to catch up on work that hasn't been done for days at the moment!
Cheers,
Amanda

Bec Im only temping out at Picton for the next 6 weeks! An ex of mine lived at Prestons (behind the school), and so did an old friend of mine from years and years ago! I havent been out that way in AGES!
Friends of ours live over behind Maccas (the one next to the BP!)
Amanda, your E party looked like an absolute BLAST!!! You looked great!

Hey Amanda, you look like you had great fun at your engagement party! Ours feels like so long ago - it was the 20th November last year!
Thanks for the offer Bec! I have heaps of family in Wollongong, but you never know, I might land on your doorstep one day!
I am afraid that I dont know much about the area you are talking about, I have never been up Picton way really that I remember.
My deranged father lives in town, and we lived at Towradgi, and before that, Kanahooka, back when it was nice.

Hi Everyone
I just discovered this thread. My fiancee and I are getting married on 4 March 2006
I feel so slack reading about all the planning you are doing. I have done bugger all. My fiancee and I are going to check out our first ceremony/reception venue this weekend (hopefully it is The One).
I have not told my mum that we have set the date yet. This may sound a bit mean but when I told her a tentative date and place (on the Sunshine Coast where my finacee was born) she nagged me for hours on end about having the wedding in Hervey Bay where she lives. I figure I will leave it until I have most things sorted and booked and then let her know.
Anyone in the Brisbane area, suggestions for photographers, cake, flowers, etc would all be appreciated.

We booked the reception YAY!
Tomorrow night we're going to visit a photographer and possibly make a booking. On the weekend we'll go to visit the gardens we're thinking of having the ceremony in and I've giving H2B the job of calling a celebrant he's already spoken to to arrange a meeting. I think we'll book the cars that we've had a quote off (cause the girls in this thread said it was such a bargain!). Once we get those things done I'll think I'll relax until after the engagement party - which is a month on Thursday

Oh and I have decided to go with the dress even though the designer is a Miss Princess. The shop have been lovely and they will organise fittings in Melbourne for me, I can't ask for more then that!

Start looking around now and then when you see some that you like you can show them to your mum when she is visiting you.Have a look in Bridal Shops and Bride mags for ideas.

The last time I posted an entry here we hadn't booked our date yet. We finally confirmed it last week end - hurrah! It will be Saturday 4 March.
So far we have only booked the reception venue (which will double as the ceremony venue).
This week and next we're concentrating on finding a celebrant (and any suggestions for good celebrants in Sydney are very welcome!) and a photographer.
My mum is visiting from overseas for 3 weeks, so I've booked some appointments with some couturiers to try and find a dress.
Frantic times but so much fun!

Kate and Laurette just checked out your dresses, they are beautiful.Kate with yours if if can be done I would go with the thinner straps as the thicker ones are a bit to wide and are taking away from the bust line.Dress it up with some crystals if you want some wow factor.Laurette loved the BM dress in blue.

Thanks Kathy!
Glad to hear that you had such a good time at Amanda's E party. I was also like that last November after ours - I wanted the wedding to be heaps sooner. Who am I kidding - I still want it to be heaps sooner....
I have had a reference made to a place that supplies Balinese flags for weddings and so on, that you can use to define the aisle, or the whole wedding area at the ceremony. I really really like them. Have a look at this photo here -
Balinese flagsand tell me what you reckon. They are based in Byron Bay, but I wonder if they would be willing to send some up here and I can stick em in the ground myself!
As for buying the dress this early - I wasnt intending to! I was going to wait until November, which was the the deadline for ordering something through the shop that I went to, and see how much weight I could have lost. But then Kate gave me that website addy, and it all fell into place by accident. Dresses such as that one that were in the shop, retailed for about $1500 plus then having to pay for alterations as well. I will obviously still have to pay for the alterations, but its nothing in comparison!
Have a great day ladies!

Hi Laurette,
Just checked out the flags. Are you having an outdoor ceremony? If so that would look great but i wouldnt have to many as you dont want to block the view of guests being able to see you.As for them sending them to you I cant see it being a problem you will have to pay for post and packageing so check that it is not more than the item your buying.Amanda's dress will be ordered when she gets back from Bali we are doing the same and getting it from O/S as it is the exact dress she wants and they are altering it so it has the 2meter train she wants all for the bargain price of $300.00 we have seen the same dress here in Aust for $3000 and all she has to do is get a dress maker to take her measurments email that to them and 6 to 8 weeks later she has her dress. The worst thing is the waiting and then having the dress for so long before wedding day but I think it will be worth the wait.Anyway go for both the flags are great and the dress is beautiful cant wait to see photos of you in it.

I am not intending to use the flags for the aisle, I think that I will use them to make a huge semi-circle at the front of the wedding, so that it's like a wall (with gaps of course) behind the celebrant and around to where the seating starts... Then I will have something else for the aisle...

Hi girls,
Laurette, I love the flags. I think they'll look great!!
Welcome back Amanda and Kathy!! Amanda, your e-party photo's looked great. What was going on with the wine. Did you have some sort of wine-tasting going on? Did I spy some bottles of Grange???
Sam - Congratulations on getting your reception booked. I found this one the hardest. I think everything else is a lot easier once this is organised.
Bec - it looks like you've got most of the main things done. Good work!! I'm still trying to sort out our Church!!! Trying not to stress about it yet. I figure it will all fall into place soon enough!!
Welcome to more new March girls!!!
Ellerson, I think you've still got plenty of time for your dress, but Kathy's idea of starting to look now is a good one. The only reason I got mine this early is because my Mum came over from Perth in March. I started looking in early February to get an idea of what style suited me etc and to narrow it down to a few so that when my Mum came, we could just focus on those. Most dress shops say they need @6-9 months to order in - although in reality, I think they can do rush orders in less time.

Hi Jo,
Yes that is Grange Amanda's Dad has a few of those lovely bottles and said he wanted to have some at the e/party as a toast to FB&G but only for the imediate family and bridal party so that was done as a seperate thing after all the speaches and cake. The place where the party was done it up so it looked like a wine tasting as Amanda and Patrick didnt know what was going on it was a nice surprise for them.Know we have to decide if we will have some more at the wedding.

Hi girls
My lovely, beautiful, hunkaspunk H2B is going away for work tonight... and wont be back until tomorrow night when I am already asleep. Sigh. I will miss him so much! I had a cry at lunch time when I had to say goodbye to him.
Luckily all my fave shows are on tonight, McLeods and Blue Heelers - and it's a double episode. yay!
And I also have to tape Jamie's school dinners and will watch that tomorrow... and I have the OC tape from last night to watch when I get home.
Because I have all this stuff to keep me occupied, I will have to buy tea. I think that a bought pizza will go down well. I will treat myself.
I am alright until bed time comes, it will be so cold! I have only had two nights alone in the last 12 months! and those two times I got scared and went and let myself into his parents house and snuck into Glenn's old room!
They found me in the morning. They arent home tonight though, so there will be no point going there.
Me very very scared.

Well, I survived the night (just) - sleeping tablets helped. I was so so so scared and nervous when I went to bed that I thought I was going to be sick.
Eventually the tablet kicked in and I dozed off, and slept OK. No monsters came to get me. I left the bathroom light on just in case though.
I am still a bit dopey today...

Hey again, I have been soooooooo busy!!!! I am still recovering from the Engagement Party and I'm trying to get organised for Bali. I have 100 papers to mark by next Tuesday before we fly out, boooring, and a wedding to go to this weekend. I will be on the lookout for ideas etc and I will report back.
We had such a great time at the E Party, glad you liked the photos guys!!! The grange was such a lovely gesture from mum and dad, and very nice too!
Anyway, better rock and roll, have to give two lectures today....argh!
Looking at honeymoon brochures tonight as well, we seem to agree that Thailand is a good option....maybe Koh Samui or Krabi (tsunami repair pending).

Laurette, about a month ago matt had to work in Manly for a week, so he stayed up there and I was a wreck on the first night. We've been living together for nearly 2 years (I think) and that was the first time we've been apart, ever! I got on the stilnox and slept like a baby!
I was actually braver than I thought, but god it was hard.
He has to go out to windsor in a few weeks for another week, but Im going with him! I dont care if it takes me 2 hours to get to and from work!

Im jealous of you jetting off to Bali! You be careful tho - LOCK YOUR BAG!!!

We'd love to go OS, but dont know how the finances will be holding up by that stage, so might be a little trip up the coast for us!

Apr 21 2005, 10:49 AM
ha Ha Kate - I have Stilnox too! Although the one that I took last night was my last

Next time I go to the doc I will have to ask for another script I think. One night a couple of months ago, because I have gall bladder 'issues', I had taken som Maxalon (anti-spew) and Panadine Forte to make me feel better, but then I was hypo, so took a sleeping tablet to go to sleep.
Not the best move, I can tell you that! Glenn still talks about that night and all the things that I did for him that

I dont remember???
Disgraceful behaviour.

HAHAHAHA what a classic...
Reminds me of one night on Bourbon with friends of ours (I sat it out because Ive had a 'bourbon drinking episode' which everyone gave me plenty of stick about!)
Between Matt, and 3 others they drank 1 1/2 bottles of normal beam, then 2 of the big 1.25ltr or whatever they are on top of that. Mind you, they drank out on the verandah (fresh air) and had everything in an esky at arms reach (didnt have to move) for a few hours, then once they got up, it hit them like a tonne of bricks.
The next morning, our friend (male) woke up in his wifes pyjamas, under all the sheets- including the electric blanket, his wife had something equally as odd on (Im thinking it was uggboots - and only uggboots!) But neither of them can remember a thing about the night!!!!!!!! At least Glenn has his memories... if nothing else

Anyway, after they'd composed themselves in the morning, I got a call to take the wife to the hospital to get a maxilon shot, cos she was so violently ill, she couldnt even keep water down!
Needless to say the wife cant drink bourbon anymore, and completely understands what I meant when I was talking about my episode
Laurette
Apr 21 2005, 11:42 AM
Ooh, I am like that with Black Sambucca shots, and CSC shots. No matter what else is going on in the world, I might be stone cole sober, black sambucca will come back up the next morning.
Guaranteed.
I once got a CSC pack with a friend, and we drank 7 shots on an empty stomach and then went out (her on bourbon, me on rum) and neither of us can even stand the smell of a CSC shot anymore. Urgh. I feel gross even thinking about it.
8 and one quarter hours until my baby is home!
Kate S
Apr 21 2005, 11:46 AM
Ohh I love sambucca! Im more into the white than the black tho!
Its the only drink thats ever wiped my memory for a whole night! On bourbon or whatever, I always manage to remember bits and pieces (usually the bad stuff

) but sambucca erases everything from the minute it gets poured into my glass!!!
Ohh!! not long now!
Laurette
Apr 21 2005, 12:16 PM
And I just got an invite from a friend to meet her down the street for lunch, so that will be good and help break up the day too!
Yahoo!
I can honestly say that I have never been in a state where I cant remember what has happened the night before. Except on those tablets, but that was a medical emergency, of course.
I think that I am going to start buying the paper for our wedding invitations. At least count up how much I need and then order it and that's one thing that I can pay for now and not have to worry about in the coming months.
It might keep me occupied until the dress comes too!

I just looked at the other dress you are thinking of the one from ebay and IMO it is the one I would go for it is beautiful.
And as for FH not knowing well if my hubby knew everything that I have purchased over the years he would die.
You do learn how to say something cost blah blah when it was really another price altogether.
We are still together and what he dosent know wont hurt him.
Anyway let us know what you decide.

Hi Jess and Heather. More Marchies, yeah!!!
Laurette, how did Glenn's trip go? Glad he's back and can keep you warm at night!!
When I read the Bourbon and Black Sambucca stories, I had to laugh. I can no longer drink or even smell - without feeling ill - bourbon or black sambucca. And you can add to that list scotch and vodka & orange. I can now drink vodka again with soda and lime, but not orange juice!!
H2B and I went to a couple of photographers this week and plan on making our decision over the weekend, so hopefully we'll have a photographer booked in by early next week!!
I have also booked our chair covers and ordered some beads for the wine glass charms I'm going to make.
So, a pretty productive week!! It feels so good when you can tick another box off!
Have a great long weekend girls!
Jo.

Apr 22 2005, 02:24 PM
Hi Kathy!
Im not going to go with that exact one this time... its a bit too beaded, and if the quality isnt the best, I think the beads would be the first things to fall off IYKWIM. Id also like to lose some weight in the next few months too, so I might leave it til about 6 months out before I consider looking around seriously again. I also want to start trying some more styles on so I have a clearer idea of what I want.
I remember the first place we went, I was trying on dresses for around $300! I might head back there.
Im so mad at myself. We dont have the money to be wasting it like that, and the money I brought that dress with couldve been put towards something I really loved. Now I have to go back to the drawing board, and with a very limited budget!
Hi Jo!
Looks like youre really starting to get the ball rolling! How much were your chair covers if you dont mind me asking?
Im glad someone else knows what I mean about not being able to drink certain drinks! Most people think Im crazy!
Kathy W
Apr 22 2005, 02:32 PM
Kate what if you sold the original dress now before you start altering it

My drink to stay away from is tequila with lemon and salt and those bloody little CSC's cant even stand the smell of them after a new years eve drinking session 2 years ago.
Kate S
Apr 22 2005, 02:42 PM
Yeah I might look into it, but because its semi- deconstructed, I dont know how I'll go with it. Also, I wouldnt even know what to ask for it. I got it cheap ($600) but I cant afford much more of an outlay, so Id need to sell it for whatever I was buying my new one at IYKWIM.
Also, we're reconsidering our venue. We still like it, but someone suggested one of the surf clubs that has a function room, and we made some inital enquiries, and its pretty much on par cost wise. We spoke to one of the caterers, and she said a common thing to do at this place is to have entrees cocktail style out on the massive deck, then have sit down dinner/dessert, and do speeches during the dessert. We LOVE the idea - more casual and more "us" so we're going to look into it a bit more.

Try and get what you payed for it or as close as possible that way your cost will be covered.
As for your reception idea Amanda is going to have cocktail style finger food for the guests and then maybe a soup then mains and the cake as a desert.
You end up cutting costs down that way. As you are not paying for two entrees and how many times have you seen at weddings where they have a desert + cake the cake dosent get eaten or worse it gets left behind and you are paying a hell of alot of money out for cakes it seems a shame to have them left behind.Amanda's cake is 3 tiers mud cake ,mud cake, fruit cake the top being fruit cake which will be kept and what is left over after desert will be cut up for guests to have with coffee and port or to take home.
have a good weekend and dont stress to much will chat next week.

Hmm since I mainly read this forum after work and before bed, I have noticed I have been dreaming about weddings lately. A couple of nights ago I sat up in bed (still asleep) and said to Neil, "have you got your wedding dress yet??" and he just replied "no I dont have to wear a wedding dress" and once I realised what I was saying I coudlnt stop laughing I felt silly for talking in my sleep.
And then last night I dreamt that it was our wedding day and he just left me waiting at the altar! How scary
is anyone else having dreams/nightmares this far out from their wedding??

Kate, the function centre in surf club sounds really good. Cocktail entree's and drinks by the ocean - very nice!! Our chair covers are costing $4.95 per chair. This includes an ivory chair cover and burgundy organza sash. They deliver, set up, then take away again at the end of the night, so we won't have to worry about anything. I did find some cheaper places, but you had to set them up yourself and I didn't want to have to be running around in the morning doing that.
Hi Ellerson, I am definitely having wedding dreams!! I've had a dream that it was my wedding day and I hadn't organised anything - no cake, no cars, no minister, nothing!! I then freaked out completely. I've also had a dream that H2B hated my dress and I was really upset! As I'm getting more things organised though, I'm find that I'm having less dreams about it (apart from happy daydreams!!).

I have my dress picked out - It is made by mr K from this years winter collection and it is truly beautiful, i am trying to find a pic of it online but i am having no luck but it is truly beautiful, i have my flowers sorted out, and viel and hair sorted, now all i have to do is get a ceremony place (no churches, outdoors) and a reception place!!

Hey Sam, Heather and everyone else - thanks for the warm welcome!
Found the dress this weekend!! Was considering a couple (of varying styles and prices) but settled on a nice ittle silk number that came in right on my very conservative budget!
I know it's still ages away, but I seem to have wedding day-dreams every day at the moment! Sometime at night too! It's very exciting to be planning a wedding but I really hope it's not going to be on mind constantly for the next 10 or so months...
Kate - I've booked a cocktail reception. I went to one a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. We're also trying to stick to a budget and I think if you shop around you could find somewhere that will do that kind of thing for a reasonable cost. I guess it depends what you like though - we're not having any kind of sit down arrangement at all. Surf club sounds fab though - if I lived near the beach that's definately what I'd be doing!

You reckon that you are getting impatient? You dont know the meaning of the word!
This time next week I will have no gall bladder - it's coming out next Monday. The nerves about the op are keeping my brain busy too - so I'm only thinking about the dress arriving 50% of the time.

Hi ask_me_LOL!! Welcome to our March twinnies thread! I'm an 11 March girl too!! Make sure you pop in often and give us updates!!
Jess, your dress sounds lovely. Can you post a picture for us??? Pretty please - we love the pictures!!!
Welcome back Laurette! You disappeared for a few days!!! You were just catching up on the missed hugs and kisses when Glenn went away weren't you!!
Kate, what's happening with the surf club?
How nice was the long weekend! I didn't have much on for a change, so it was lovely just catching up on some sleep and things around the house. H2B had a mini stress attack about the cost of the wedding. We went through budget when we got engaged, and (so far) are sticking to it, but every couple of months reality hits about the costs and he has a stress attack. But then he gets it out of his system and we move on!! Men!
Jo.
EDITED: Laurette, I just read your last post (you got in before I posted mine). A good friend of mine had her gall bladder out last year. She used to have all sorts of problems with her stomach, she was constantly sick and gettings pains and no-one knew what was wrong. Finally a doctor said, "it could be the gall bladder. we could take it out and see what happens". She is quite a worrier, so wasn't sure but did some internet research and apparently we don't need it, so she decided to do it. She was so sick of being sick. She too was very nervous before having the op, but it was over in a flash, the scar was only really small, and she hasn't looked back since. She is now sooooo much better and wishes she'd had it taken out years ago!! We'll all be thinking of you and sending our good wishes, but try not to be worried because I'm sure you'll be fine and feeling so much better when it's over!!!

Hi Jo!
Sounds like you had a great weekend! All we did was SLEEP! Sorta wasted the weekend away, but we definately needed it! (too many 5am starts!)
Surf club looks to be a really good option at the moment. I wish I could find pics of it! Its beautiful!
Im just too nervous to book anything atm. I finish this assignment in about 4 weeks (hopefully - fingers crossed) so there theres a high liklihood there'll be few weeks between jobs for me, which means dipping into the savings. H2bs work is all over the shop lately as well, and has been averaging 3 days a week, so we're WAY off the savings plan anyway! I just want to wait til I get my next assignment, and H2b gets a few 'good' weeks to boost the savings before commiting to anything we wont be able to pay IYKWIM.
ETA:
Good luck with the op laurette! You'll be FINE! Dont stress. I know of a girl that had it done and it only left a 1cm scar and she said it was a breeze! More importantly - how long will you be away from your PC? I want to know the minute your dress arrives!!!
