Hi Girls,
firstly - I posted in the Dress site, but I have to say it again.....YEAH FOR LAURETTE!!! It's very exciting that you have (well, nearly have) your dress. I can't wait to see you in it when it arrives!!
Kate, I so hope the car company is in NSW. I found it when looking for my cars. This is the link:
wedding carsUnder the company Wh!te W#dd!ng etc etc, it lists the address as Forest Road, Hurstville, NSW. I didn't even notice that the actual companies website didn't have any address details. I also noticed that the mobile phone number on the wedding car site lists a different mobile number to what is on the actual company website, so maybe try that as well. My fingers are crossed for you!!!!
Oh and Kate, you absolutely MUST show us your dress when you get it!! It sounds lovely and besides, we can give you an honest opinion!!!

6 PAGES!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurstville!!! thats great for me!!! (only an hour up the road!!!)
Ive emailed them, still nothing, and I called at lunchtime and it went to messagebank, but I hate leaving voicemails, so I just hung up. I'll try again later.
Im thinking if I go thru with it, that I get the red one and Matt gets the white one! Think of photos with a red car! I think it will look unreal! (matt also supports StGeo/Illawarra so he'll be happy about the red and white!!!)
Thank you again Jo!!!

Hello Kate!
What a lovely smile you have!
You can put a link in your sig the same way.
To write a blub thing, you have to rename the photo

GUESS WHAT GUESS WHAT GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The GT place emailed me back, and are willing to come down to Wollongong. They didnt give me prices tho, so Ive sent back another one asking for a quote.
I REALLY want them, but we cant afford to spend the earth. What would you all class as reasonable? We've been quoted $700 for 2 6-seater limos for 6 hours. I only want these cars for 2 hours. Can you haggle with these types of suppliers?

Apr 14 2005, 03:11 PM
Laurette that pic is REALLY old (its my old msn profile pic) taken at the Summernats when I was about 17 (that was definately one of the most innocent weekends of my life... NOT!!!!!

).
I cant even remember how it got scanned. The quality is shocking!

Apr 14 2005, 03:20 PM
Wow, what fantastic news about the cars! Excellent! Surely being so close they will allow you to hire them for that period of time.
I hope that you dont have to wait as long for the next email back!

Hey Kate
can you whack a link in to their site so I can have a lookie?

And justifiably! It really is stunning! (and not just p!ssing in your pocket)
CARS What would you expect them to charge. I want to prepare myself.
Dancing Girl
Apr 14 2005, 03:31 PM
Yah!!! Hopefully they will be priced O.K! I think your H2B will LOVE them - particularly the red/white combo if he is a Saints supporter.
In terms of costs, $700 for 2 cars for 6 hours sounds incredibly good!! Is that in Newcastle?
We looked at a few car companies (all in Sydney) and found that 1/ they were pretty similar in price and 2/ did not want to negotiate. Unfortunately it is the old story of supply and demand. They can afford to be choosy because the Sydney market is big compared to the number of cars available - especially the Vintage Car market. My cars (1X6seater Rolls and 1X4 seater Bentley) are costing $1500 for 4 hours. OUCH!!! But, I love them and you know how when you get your heart set on something and just can't let go???? Hmmm - hopefully I don't get my heart set on to many more things.
BTW, I don't know where my ticker has gone!!! All the daisy link tickers seem to not be working!! Not happy. I like seeing my ticker!!

That quote was in wollongong.
And we can get 2 PT cruisers (black and white) for $900
(I cant remember which company it was tho, will have to ask h2b)
Im only willing to spend that $700 and even then, its stretching it. Anything more and I'll have to forefeit them
We've already decided they arent a necesity, and I wont be able to keep that amount secret from him.

It looks like we're changing our date by one day to Saturday 18 March - we looked at a venue last night that doesn't have minimum numbers for Friday/Saturday. We're about this far |-------| from booking the venue

Few dress dramas this week, as I bought my dress in Sydney but I'm in Melbourne the shop we trying to tee up the designer in Melbourne to do the measurements and fitings but little miss precious designer won't do that because she only does couture from her Melbourne store not alterations of her store-bought dresses.........well heellloow! It's not like I grabbed her $15 special from Target! So I was angry at first as was my H2B and BM and I was saying "I don't want one of her dresses anyway" but then I thought about my beautiful dress and decided I still want it even if the designer is so precious.
We're going to meet a photographer next week - it's the same photograher that Nat (Goin' to the chapel...) had. We're trying to tee up a meeting with the celebrant.
Once we book the reception, especially if it's on a Saturday, it'll be go go go to book other stuff

Hi Sam!!!
Great to see things are finally falling into place for you!
Grr at your designer!
More news about the GT's!
The original place that Jo put me onto got back to me and said $450 per car (which is OK I suppose - not great, but possibly passable) even better tho - the GT club got back to me with a Sydney contact, so I'll be calling them at some point today, and hopefully will be able to work something out with them!

Apr 15 2005, 08:42 AM
hhmm interesting conversation you're having about cars. We got a quote from a local place and we can get a Mark 5 Jaguar for $300 for 2 hours...........judging by what you guys have been saying that is really good value
Kate S
Apr 15 2005, 08:51 AM
Sam that price is fantastic!!!

Apr 15 2005, 08:55 AM
Ok Ive got the number of the VP of the Syd GT club.
What do I say when I call? I dont want to sound like some bumbling idiot. And I know I'll get all tounge tied and I dont want them to think Im wasting their time.
Im pretty confident on the phone if I have a plan of what I want to say - but Im stumped how to broach this cos I dont know what sort of reception I'll get.

Hey Kate and Sam
I agree with Sam - write down all the thing that you want to mention and that way you wont forget it.
Practice your opening line a couple of times, and know how you are going to start the conversation!
Grr at your designer Sam - do you mind me asking who is making it?
Kate - your dress fitting is tomorrow!

Hi, thanks for letting me have my little rant before!
I called the guy and he was nice, but said that he doubts highly that anyone would do it because they are so meticulous with their cars and wouldnt risk rice or confetti being thrown on it (

but then again, some of these cars are worth big $$$)
Yeah Im looking forward to picking my dress up tomorrow, but realised that my sister wont be able to come with me cos its my neices bday party tomorrow at 11 (I just assumed cos Im going at 9, that she'd come with me

) so unless I can get mum or someone to come with me, I dont know if I'll try it on.
Its my neices 3rd bday today!!! Shes so gorgeous! The funniest little thing, and I get so sad that shes growing up so quickly (got tears in my eyes now thinking about it!)

That's no good about the cars darling!
But havent they done other weddings? I dont understand?
Sambellina
Apr 15 2005, 11:30 AM
That seems so silly Kate, if I had a flash car I paid big $$'s for and it was by pride and joy then it would give me great pleasure to show it off as a wedding car.
Anyway who ever heard of throwing confetti at a car
Kate S
Apr 15 2005, 11:30 AM
I didnt know how Id go with them, so Im pretty so so about it. It was probably a bit too good to be true to start with!
I'll see how we go with the place that Jo put me onto. I'll have to wait a few months to ensure we've got the necessary stuff out of the way first, then if theyre still available great, if not, not meant to be!
Laurette, had this've been a few months ago, I would have got a 'friend' to come with me tomorrow... (cutting off my nose to spite my face!)
Kate S
Apr 15 2005, 11:34 AM
Are any of you HANGING to tell H2b about your dress?
I wish Matt could see it... hes pretty good with what looks good on me and what doesnt.
I just hate having to be guarded about what I say around him.
Dont get me wrong, theres no way hes going to know anything about it til the day, but I just want to talk about it sometimes, and hes the obvious person that Id talk about it to.
Making any sense???

Hey Kate
A friend of mine wanted a 2CV for her wedding so when her mum saw one in the street she went up to the guy and asked if he'd be interested in doing a wedding. The guy was wrapped - he put the ribbon on, drove the car and had a great day!
Might be worth a try to put friends and family on the look out and just approach an owner if they ever see one!
Kate S
Apr 15 2005, 11:57 AM
I was thinking of doing that actually, but I only know of 2 decent GTs around our area, and they dont appear to be the approachable types IYKWIM. Plus one has a personalised number plate of SLUGGO or something equally as appropriate for a wedding
Sambellina
Apr 15 2005, 12:00 PM
hahahahaaha SLUGGO!!!
They may not seem to be the approachable type but you're not thinking in the right mindset...........think
1. Man
2. Car
Now do they seem approachable?

Apr 15 2005, 12:21 PM
I know of a girl near me in Wagga who went up to a bloke in the Marketplace carpark and asked him to borrow his green Jag for her wedding... and he did! He even swapped cars with her for the day so that she could still have her driver that she had organised do it (a mate)!
How cool's that!

Apr 15 2005, 01:48 PM
Hi Girls,
Sam, your designer sounds like a pain in the butt

!! Does this mean you will have to go to Sydney for alterations, or will you find someone in Melbourne to do it?
Kate, sounds like you are finally making headway on the cars. Pity the GT club wasn't much help. I'm also a believer of if it's meant to be, it's meant to be!
I am also dying to tell HTB about my dress, although he does know a little bit about it. My dress is a pale blush pink and H2B is NOT a pink fan. He had previously said he wouldn't really like me in a "coloured" dress, but would prefer me in more traditional colours - white, ivory, cream etc. And that was always my thought too, until I put my dress on and I just fell completely in love with it and it felt so right. I had major dilemma

because I loved the dress so much (and had tried on HEAPS of others - nothing was quite right), but didn't want H2B to hate it when I walked down the aisle. So, I had to give away a little bit to suss him out. The actual skirt doesn't really look pink at all, it is more an off white, but the bodice has some pink beading which brings a blush look to it and at the back there is a pale pink chiffon insert. Hard to explain, but there is a picture in my link below - a bit blurry - I was at a fashion parade and saw it. Anyway, I told him that a dress I was thinking of had a touch of pink with beading etc and how would he feel about that. He just said that I would look beautiful in anything (awww) and he loves my taste, so know's I wouldn't go for anything too bright or garish. So, I went for it. I still get a twinge of doubt every now and then, but I know within me that this dress is "me" and he'll love me in it (i hope).
Phew, that was very long-winded!! Sorry girls!!
I have also added some pictures of my reception place and wedding cars if anyone is interested!!

Hi girls, also getting hitched on the 25th of March 2006. Planning is well underway ( I bought my dress 1 week after getting engaged ) Almost everything is done and I am absolutly exhausted.
Luckily my FMIL has been put in her place and helps out only when asked. My Mum has also stepped up. Initially, she wasn't very excited or interested in getting involved. Until she saw THE DRESS. Cried like a baby. Now, couldn't have asked for a more enthusiastic Mum. ( although in part i'm wondering if it's got to do with her wanting to know where her money is going )
Anyway, sorry about the bitchfest. Hope everyone is having some fun. XXX B

March 18th for us. We have booked the reception place and now starting to look at the finer details - flowers, cakes, dresses etc I figure March is miles away and I still have plenty of time to organise things...I hope!! |
Don't be so sure about March being that far away hon, it will creep up on you before you know it...

I remember it being 18 month away, and now my wedding is less than 12!!! arrrgh!
How are we all going girls?

Kate, how did the dress fitting go????

Apr 18 2005, 09:32 AM
Hi girls.
I got the dress and got pics!
Im really busy this morning and havent had a chance to upload them.
I'll try to get back online by lunch and upload and share them!
We've also thinking about changing our venue. Its been a very wedding'y weekend!
I'll be back asap!
Hope youve all had a great weekend!!!
Kate S
Apr 18 2005, 10:12 AM
OK, Ive uploaded the pics.
Im not putting them in my sig, and Im only leaving the link up for a little while (people I know come to this site and Im a bit wary).
Bit of background...
The dress is a few sizes too big, and has to be altered, hence the fact its a bit hessian bag-ish. Also, it isnt originally a strapless, so in the spag strap pics, it has sleeves tucked under. And Im wearing an old, un-supportive bra, and just taken the straps down, so my boobies are all over the place!!!
Second, as Ive mentioned, it had sleeves, which I was going to cut off and either have cap or spag straps or something, then yesterday we were talking about how strapless has been realy big and we've both noticed that straps are making a comeback. I have freckles, and have pretty pronounced 'strap marks' on my shoulders (from swimmers, singlets) where I dont have freckles, and its been bothering me.
Anyway, my SA told me to put the sleeves on just for a comparison, and lo and behold, I actually like it! (I was dead against them when I first started looking at dresses!) anyway, Im now tossing up whether or not to keep the straps/sleeves as is (with modifications of course). We had it all pinned and tucked and whatever, and it wasnt until we'd taken them all out that I realised we hadnt taken pics. In the 'dress front' pic the pins have been taken out - we had the sleeves doubled under so they were only half the width, from under the arms, if that makes any sense???
It also has a really square neckline, which Im not so sure about, so its a possibility to make it more a sweetheart line.
On the back/train pics, you can see the bows. I want to take them off... I dont like them at all. Im happy to keep one to bustle the train, but thats it. Im also thinking of shortening the train a bit.
Anyway, thats it so far. I have to go back in January to get the alterations done ($100 for everything Ive said above!), so Ive got til then to make all the decisions.
So girls, fire away!!! Whats your thoughts?
Laurette
Apr 18 2005, 01:24 PM
I love it with the half-width straps/sleeves as they are in the pic. It almost looks like a halterneck in that front-on pic.
I love the detail - little pearls! Dont change the length of the train, although I do agree that you need to lose the bows, and just keep the one at the bustle.
Kate S
Apr 18 2005, 01:32 PM
My sister reckons it looks 'matronly' with the straps... (are they straps or sleeves or what?? Im confused!)
Kate S
Apr 18 2005, 03:14 PM
Its still plain tho.
I dont know... its missing something to me.
It has no 'wow' factor.
Laurette
Apr 18 2005, 03:34 PM
No dress has a wow factor until you add nice hair, makeup, shoes, jewellery, veil, flowers and most importantly, groom.
I like it.
Kate S
Apr 18 2005, 03:42 PM
Im still not really that into it, but the harsh reality is that we cant afford to go out and get another dress... even if I sell this one for a few hundred.
That'll teach me
Laurette
Apr 18 2005, 04:14 PM
ooh, that's no good mate.
Hopefully (I am sure) that when you get to having proper fittings and get it altered and nice undies and bra under it, and shoes etc, and an underskirt and so on, you will love it more.
I can see that it would have to be hard to get excited at the moment, as it is sort of a bit 'deconstructed' with the arms and straps/sleeves not being done properly etc.
I am sure that once it turns into a wedding dress of your specs, that you will like it more.

Hi twinnies and welcome to the new March girls!! Good to have our group expanding.
Thanks for posting your dress pic's Kate, I really like it. I think the style really suits you and once it is altered to fit you properly, it will look gorgeous. If you feel comfortable with straps (or sleeves?? - maybe we call them slaps???), then keep them. I think it looks nice with them or with the spaghetti straps. Maybe you could keep them as they are, but make them a little bit narrower or even alter it to a halterneck?? A slight sweetheart neckline would also look nice - particularly if you are keeping the straps.
I agree with Laurette that once you have the veil, accessories etc all on together, it will look beautiful. It's really not a plain dress. The embroidery is really nice and train length is gorgeous (although I do have to agree with getting rid of the bows). If you want to "sparkle" it up a little bit, you could always buy some swarovski crystal beads and sew them onto the dress (maybe underneath the bustline??). They are only @.50 - .80c to buy and can really highlight the detail on your gown. Just a thought???
Good to hear from you Bec. Have you organised anything else?
Jo.

By the was Kate - love the dress! i think it looks better on you with the thinner strappy things, also dancing girl makes a good point of adding some crystals perhaps into your detail will help with the WOW factor you are looking for?!?
non the less i think it will look great o the day!

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions girls.
I definately got caught up in the moment when I brought this dress (had wedding goggles on!) and am paying the price for it now.
Im actually more cranky at myself than anything else, cos its just not "me" at all, and definately not what I pictured, or even want for that matter, and I totally rushed it.
Anyway, thats done now. Just have to work with what Ive got!

At the end of the day Im getting married to a gorgeous guy who wont care if I walk down the aisle in my pjs!
Speaking of which, I had a dream yesterday morning that I FORGOT about our wedding... and hadnt organised my hair or makeup, and the dress wasnt altered, and I woke up on the wedding morning, and everyone started coming over and congratulating me, and I went into a massive stress attack (as you would) and was just hysterical trying to organise everything in a few hours. Needless to say, I woke up crying, and was stressing about it all morning yesterday!
