Michelle!! I'm so sorry to hear that you got sick this week of all weeks!!! How unfair. Hope you are feeling better and are able to have some fun with your shopping. At least you have your Mum here to look after you.

Looking forward to hear how you went and seeing some pics!

Laurette
Hey Michelle - that doesnt sound like much fun! Hope that you find something by the end of the week!

My next big thing is ordering my stationery. I have ordered a heap of paper and bonboinerre samples and they should (fingers crossed) arrive next week, and then I will be able to decide what I am going to do, as I am making the invitations myself.
---
Today (Wednesday)

We went to a place close by and they had nothing I liked. I felt bad so pretended I liked one of the dresses and got her to write it down on a card for me, so that she felt that her time with me was worthwhile.

In the afternoon we went to a couture (sp) place that is also close by, she sounded fantastic, will sit down with me and design a dress I want. I tried on one of her dresses and fell in love with it...Only problem is that it cost $5k Ouch!

She will try and do something similar with less expensive material etc and we go back Friday to see what quote she can give us.

Tomorrow we head back into town to go to Brides of Melb, I had an appt with them on Tues but had to cancel as I was too sick. Then we will catch a train to Oakleigh to see the dress that I liked out there.

Friday- we have an appt at 2 couture places, and also get the quote from the dressmaker.

Sat - I will hopefully have a dress by saturday!!

---
Ok update for today - we went to brides of Melb, nothing I liked. Caught a train to Oakleigh, to try on a dress that I tried on 2 weeks ago with my SIL. I walked out of the shop with the dress.

I have it sitting in the spare room, mum is taking it back to QLD on sunday which is probably a good idea as I will show Neil!! I will get a few alterations closer to the wedding.

Very exciting, very very scary stuff!

Pics soon I promise
Laurette
OMG YOU GOT YOUR DRESS!

This is huge news! Wow, you are almost as bad as me - at least you tried yours on!

Congratulations! This is so exciting!

Good news girls, I have spent the last million hours since tea rebuilding my laptop - it's only a year or so old but I seemed to have killed it, so I have rebuilt the harddrive and installed my new modem, I now have broadband at home so I might actually be able to be a constructive member of this thread again.

Still waiting on the news of this job, I am hopeful. Hopefully I will be able to interview for it in the next two weeks, which should, figers crossed, just be a formality.

Now that I have this computer working I might be able to actually do my resume again!

Anyways, love yous all - today is a good day!

Love and kisses
Laurette

*so sad when my happiness depends on a computer*

Laurette
Hi Snickers - welcome to the March 2006 thread!
---
Ok.. I have finally worked out how to make a yahoo photo album.

The dress - Its just a very basic A line (I think thats the word) with rouching (sp) under the bust. Its got those crystals on the bodice that start with S (swarkovski or something like that) The back zips up and had little crystal buttons up the zip to hide it (more to look good than to be functional) It also had a small train at the back.

Im glad I went for a small dress, its what I wanted. Throughout the week I tried on heaps of fuller dresses, but I need to keep in mind Im having a beach wedding and anything too big does look out of place.

We ordered extra crystals and might put them around the train at the back to add some more sparkle.

I got pressured into buying a veil even though I wasnt going to have one, but it had crystals around the edge , so does compliment the back of the dress, hopefully the idea will grow on me.

I also got crystal bracelet and necklace.

We paid $1600 for the dress, a small hoop, the veil, the bracelet and necklace.

Ive only added a few pics of the dres, pics without my face as I look shocking in the pics btu you get the idea wink.gif

It looks white in these pics but its actually blush pinkish/aprictoty pink

I wont see the dress now until we move to QLD as mum took the dress home with her to dry clean and store. I have already shown Neil pics of the dress (I needed some reassurance and I trust him 100%, plus he will forget what it looks like very soon)

Thats all I have to report for now!
Laurette
BUMP!

Michelle, love the dress mate. But you already know that!

This thread has been very quiet.

I am hoping to get to Sydney next weekend for a day to look at dresses, as I have listed the other one on Ebay. Although I might have to lower the starting price for it I think!
snickers
today was a semi productive day - sent deposits for the cars, spoke to decorations lady and she will send me some samples of fabric and left message for marquee people. Now dress shopping tomorrow evening

Dancing Girl
Hi girls!! How is everybody?

Michelle, I posted in your dress thread, but just in case you didn't see it - I love your dress. I think it looks gorgeous on you and is very elegant. Now you should just try to forget about it completely otherwise you will start doubting yourself when you see pictures of other dresses. Just remember that you picked it for a reason. biggrin.gif

Laurette, have you definitely decided to not keep your dress? Did you not like the way it looked on you?? Fingers crossed you find something you love. BTW, how is the job situation going?

Ebony, have fun on your holiday you lucky thing. Oh, and I love the pictures of your dress in your link !!! It's gorgeous! Did you buy it or have it made? But, if you aren't happy with it, then I guess it's better for you to buy something else that you are happy with. Good luck with shopping!!

It must be dress-indecision time because there's a few brides out these unsure about their dresses.

Hi Snickers!! Welcome to our March 2006 thread. Good luck with your dress shopping tonight. Let us know how you go.

Nothing much new for me. Jase & I are sitting down on the weekend to go over everything and make some firm decisions re; honeymoon, entertainment, bon-bon. We had some ideas that we had been holding off on until the major things were booked and we could assess the budget. So, now we have to either decide to can some of those ideas and go ahead and book. Oh, and I am going to order my papers tonight to start making our invitations up. I've been working on a sample for the past few weeks and we've finally decided on the "end" idea....I think!!

Hope you are all well. Laurette, have you heard from Kate? Say hello to her if you do.

Jo.

Hi Girls,

I know I've been slack with the whole reporting back in here ...I will make more of an effort to post and update all you lovely marchies!!

How is everyone going??? I haven't really got a lot to report back - although we are going to see the travel consultant on the weekend - we have decided on Malaysia and should hopefully confirm everything on Saturday.

Hope you are all going well with the planning...

Alicia
Dancing Girl
Gpod luck with your shopping on Saturday Snickers! Don't lose heart. I tried on about 30-40 dresses (absolutely no exaggeration!!) before I found "the one". Although a lot of them looked beautiful, none were quite right. I just didn't feel like "me" in them. Just keep on trying and you'll find something. smile.gif

Im getting married on the 12th March 06

Hi Snickers, I think you are now my wedding triplet along with someone else, I cant remember her name sad.gif
Carolyn
right, it's magpiegirl biggrin.gif
Kathy W
Hi Girls,

Im back from my wonderful holiday and missed you all as i didnt have my trusty little lap-top with me so i couldnt keep in touch.

Welcome to all the new march 06 girls biggrin.gif

We started our holiday 2 weeks ago first stop was Airlie Beach fab fab fab mixing with all the back-packers and kicking back with some great live music and rum and cokes at the open air bar up there.

Second stop was Mission Beach blah not what the brochures make it out to be we were very disapointed and only stayed there over night.

Next stop was Port Douglas it was nice but very expensive.

We then ventured up the coast to Cape Tribulation this was good and a great place if you want to have a holiday where there is no tv/radio/phones or mobiles as they dont work there.

It was then down to the Daintree and the great crocodile hunt I put on my Steve Irwin hat got in this boat and went croc viewing dont think i would like to tackle them big lizards as they are BIG ans SAVAGE.

Our next stop was back at Airlie for one night then went on a day trip to the reef and to a place called Whitehaven beach loved it.

The next day we left to go over to Hayman Island for three days and what an experience that was FABULOUS the lap of luxury from day one and i didnt want to come home I would highly recomend it as a honeymoon destination but start saving your money now as it is very expensive $25.00 for a hamburger!!!

Anyway that was a short overall view of my holiday im well rested and ready to start the wedding planning again Amanda has been very busy with getting quotes for flowers, rings etc while i was away so will fill you all in later.

Michelle,

I see you have your dress but i wasnt able to see the photos for some reason so post some more if you can.

Anyway have to go and get some tea KFC is looking good.

MWAH to all

Kathy
Trishie
Hi there Ellerson - I was beginning to think I didn't have a twin!!!

I'm from Sydney, getting married near the beach =)

How are your plans going? Whereabouts in Melb are you?
---
Hi Trishie smile.gif

Im in Melbourne in a suburb called Yallambie - I love it , but being with an army guy...we are moving again in December.

Im getting married in North Queensland, on Magnetic Island

Looks like we are beach twins too!

I booked our photographer yesterday and have decided on chocolate brown and pink for sure now. I have asked my neices to help out by being flowergirls boy they were happy lol

Kathy - glad you liked it up north. I love Airlie Beach, we spent most of our time at the lagoon. lol@ you as Steve Irwin. Would love to hear an update on Amandas plans

Bye!
Dancing Girl
Welcome back Kathy. biggrin.gif Your holiday sounded fabulous. I'm jealous!!! Glad you had a great time and are well rested.

Congrats on booking your photographer and choosing your colours Michelle! It's all happening for you at the moment - dress, photographer, flowers!! good job.

We are trying to work out our honeymoon at the moment. We've done a few costings on the net, but really need to find a good travel agent to help us plan and cost things.

that's about it for me!

Jo.
Kathy W
Hi girls,

Amanda's wedding plan update:

While i was away she was a model for a bridal store at the wedding expo in Armidale and got to wear all of the styles of gowns the store had.

She hasnt changed her mind and is sticking with her original gown.(thank god)

What was a big bonus for her was she had her hair done in different styles and makeup so now she dosent have to worry about hair/makeup trials.

She also had the use of all the different bouquets and has now decided on a tear drop for her of pink roses with two oriental lillies as the main feature and for bm's they will have smaller round bouquets and the fg will have a smaller one as well.

She told me last night that she has picked and ordered her wedding ring so thats another tick of the list.

The biggest bonus from the expo was from the reception venue they had a 20% discount if you booked one of their package deals at the expo well as you all know she had booked and paid deposit back in april so she asked them if they would give her the discount as well and they said yes after a bit of prompting so now she is having a package that was $130.00 pp for the discounted price of $109.00pp.

I also found this great little place in Karranda they have a candy factory there and you can have rock candy made to order Amanda has already looked into having it with their names on it the place she got a quote from was from sydney and was $380.00 for a 10kilo bag the place i found price is $250.00 for a 10kilo bag and its exactly the same product and tastes yummo.

So all up a very productive and cost saving couple of weeks.

bye for now

kathyxxx
Trishie
Ellerson - Ooooooh, chocolate brown and pink would be gorgeous! What about your dress, what colour is it?

I've got a black and white theme happening, right down to my dress (see pics) It's a little different I know, but I fell in love with that dress - H2B actually pulled it off the rack and said it would look good on me!

Kathy - I think you might be a twin as well (or is that a triplet? *LOL*) It sounds like your daughter did quite well wth her reception deal - I couldn't imagine being able to talk my cost down like that!!!
Kathy W
Hi Trish,

Yes Amanda is you wedding twin/triplet laugh.gif

As for talking prices and getting what you want im with you and i usually end up paying the full price for everything.

Amanda and her dad are very good at getting what they want when it comes to talking prices on different things thats why i send them to buy certain things for me.

Anyway i love your dress and your flowers are beautiful.

kathyxxx

Trishie I LOVE your dress!! Thats going to look so nice on a beach, the bodice is all sparkly you will look great!

My dress is a light pinky apricoty colour, but to me it looks ivory and in the sun it looks white! There is a link down the bottom which has my ideas and a pic of my dress in there.

Leesa - your honeymoon sounds great! Your very lucky to be going overseas

Jo- Good luck with booking your honeymoon! Hope you get what you want

Saffire
Hi everyone

Wow, so much reading to catch up on! Have been on trips to Brisbane as well as away on conference in Singapore and Vietnam so between bouncing around the place and working etc so I've been terribly slack on I-do ph34r.gif

Michelle - love your dress! Glad to hear it was a fun experience!

Here's an update of where I'm at:

1) Wedding bands
Bought wedding bands while I was in Singapore - after much deliberation, I went with tiny diamonds (couldn't resist!). Alex's is a plain 4mm band in platinum, very simple, understated and classy.

2) Dress
We've chosen the dress design and found a gorgeous fabric to make it in Brisbane. The whole dress should cost a grand total of about $500! (Thus explaining the decision to go with the tiny diamonds.... refer above!)

3) Dancing
Started dance classes - this has been the best decision we've ever made. It is sooooo much fun! If anyone wants to know the school in Melbourne let me know and I'll pm the details. The instructors are very special and make the whole experience really enjoyable.

4) What Wedding?!?
Meanwhile, we've had a 'disagreement' with the in-laws regarding some of the wedding decisions and went from
- deciding to call the whole thing off
- to eloping
- to now we're not sure what we want to do.?.

Great to hear everyone else is doing well!!!!!
Saffire
Oh btw, Vietnam is a fantastic honeymoon destination!

Just came back from conference there and if anyone is thinking of a ridiculous cheap yet ridiculously luxurious honeymoon location, I'd highly recommend Ho Chi Minh city.

Let me know if you want more details! (I'm thinking of re-routing my honeymoon myself!)
Kathy W
welcome back saffire,

Was wondering where you have been.

Sorry to hear about hassles with FIL and hope everything is resolved and you can get on with your planning.

At least you have the rings and dress sorted 2 more things off the list.

kathyxxx
---
Welcome back saffire, Vietnam sounds great. I will have to look into it more. We're still undecided if/when we are going to have a honeymoon. Probably not for a while after the wedding. cool.gif
Dancing Girl
Welcome back Saffire!

Well done on organising your wedding band (sounds gorgeous!) and dress! Can't wait to see pic's!

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with FPIL. It's really annoys me when family members decide to step in and take control. They should all just realise that at the end of the day, it your day and not theirs. We all need Mums like Kathy!! Anyway, I hope it all works out for you.

Kathy, Amanda's plans sound like they are really coming along. Fantastic news on her cost savings - particularly the reception! That will save a stack of money.

Saffire, one of the possibilities tossed up in our honeymoon talk is Vietnam. Hanoi and Hoi An in particular have been recommended. Have you been to either of these places? Decisions, decisions!!

Trish, I love your flower bouquet. It's gorgeous. I'm hoping to have some Phale. Orchids in mine with some roses mixed in, but it will depend on availability.

I started Calligraphy classes at an evening college the other week - partly because I've always wanted to be able to do it and partly because I thought I might be able to incorporate it into the wedding (writing placecards etc???). Forget that......I'm crap! wink.gif Oh well, it's quite fun learning it - even if I am hopeless!!

Saffire
Thanks everyone for the support!

Yes, wish all mum's could be like Kathy! I think this is why we get so frustrated. Although we are always hearing problems people have with their FIL's, you know there are kind supporting and just as excited as you are parents out there (e.g. Kathy). Then we get selfish and think, why can't ours be that supportive??! Why?!

Jo, I was only in Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon). I've heard the other places are also very nice however not as luxurious. Vietnam is really interesting in that you get the cultural aspect as well as go home to an amazing 5star hotel at the end of the day that defies luxury. We stayed at the Sheraton which had the most amazing showers....(vichy-shower-like experience every night tongue.gif)

Everything is so cheap. I had a chinese wedding dress made up there as well as about 3 suits - cost me next to nothing. Food is great too - ate at a few french restaurants which were as good as I have ever eaten. A group of us had a 3-course meal with 2 bottles of moet and ended up only paying about US$50 each.

Really thinking of re-routing our honeymoon....

Kathy W
Thanks for the kind words about me girls,I think what happens with most parents is they forget that its your day and dont put the brains into gear befor their mouths and dont realise that what they are saying does hurt and often offends.

Amanda is lucky she has FIL/parents who have sat back and let her and Paddy make the desisions and when she wants their/our input she gets it.

Hang in their girls they will come around even if you have to tell them that what they are saying is hurtful.

kathyxxx
Kathy W
Forgot to add Amanda has first pre-wedding councelling tonight will let you all know how she goes.

kathyxxx
Laurette
Hi trishie! Welcome

I am also having a black and white theme, although it has changed several times - we have definetly settled on it now, I HOPE!

Your plans look great - I love the shoes and your boquet! I cant believe that your H2B picked out your dress! That's great!

Kathy, the holidays sounds amazing - and I'm with you on the crocodiles. I dont think that I will ever feel the need to get up close and personal with them!

Amanda has done well with the wedding plans, and my goodness, how good did modelling turn out to be - it's like having trials for free - and a huge bonus on the package costs too!

Well, for me, I am off to Sydney on Friday to have a look at wedding dresses. I have an appointment at a place in Miranda that specialises in larger dresses, and I am lucky enough to have another i-do lovely larger bride escorting me there to help me for the morning!

I cant wait to get up there and see what's on offer, as down here in the sticks I havent really been able to try any dresses on that actually fit. So I am looking forward to working out what styles suit and getting that fixed up.

I also received a heap of sample paper and card on Monday from the place where I am going to order my invitation supplies, so that was a relief. There are a couple of things on backorder, so I hope that they turn up soon and I can make a decision about what I am going to do and start getting myself in order to start putting things together.

Tomorrow will only be seven months to go. The time has gone so fast, and there is so much more to do , I am getting a little nervous, because while all the ideas are there, not much has really been done about getting it all together!

Mum and I have decided that we are going to make the cake ourselves, and then get her friend Liz, who is a cake decorator to do the icing and everything. That's the plan. I think that my brothers and step father are going to love all the test and practice mudcakes that will be being made! This is a much more economical idea for us, as I only want a basic cake, and then Liz can work her magic on the icing and special stuff.
Kathy W
Hi Laurette,

Good luck with your dress shopping and i hope you get just what you are looking for.

kathyxxx
---
hey Laurette best of luck for this weekend with your I-do friend!! I hope you find "the dress" I expect a full report and hopefully pics on Monday!!

Did you find the place your getting invitations cheap? I have found what I want I just have to search around for el-cheapo places to buy it from, so if its an online store and cheap, could you share the web address? pretty please smile.gif

Kathy you will have to let me know how Amandas councelling session goes, we are going to attend one a bit closer to the day, I think ours is a full day of councelling.

Today Ive been emailing Sue (flower lady) getting ideas and Im very excited!! She emailed me a pic of a bouquet which is exactly what I had in mind, perhaps a different colour to the one she showed me but its the style I like. I sent her a "wish list" of what I want and just have to wait til she gives me a quote. From what Ive heard she is very reasonable so Im hopeful it will be within budget

smile.gif

i definately agree with you saffire about vietnam for honeymoon. I just spent a month in northern vietnam and it is amazingly beautiful and cheap too. the people there are so friendly, the food is awesome too.

I have two days off tomorrow and friday so i hope to spend less time on the computer and more time organising the suits, cake and my dress.
Laurette
Girls, it's getting so exciting. We are really starting to get to the business end of all this - I am hyperactive with excitement.

7 MONTHS TO GO TODAY
Saffire
Where'd all that time go?!

Wasn't it one year to go...just yesterday?!?
Laurette
Yes - literally!

Girls, this is where I have gone for my paper sample - delivery times and all prices are excellent - here.

Kathy, I would love the name of your Rock Candy supplier!

Dancing Girl
Yeah to all the 11 March girls!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif 7 months!! Wow. Time is really going fast now!!

Laurette, best of luck with your dress shopping on the weekend. Hope you get to try on lots of dresses and find something you lurvveee!

Saffire, I'll have to check out Ho Chi Minh as well now. A very good friend works for the Starwood Hotel group which owns the Sheraton chain, so I may even be able to get a good rate if we stayed there. Hmmm, tick, tick, tick goes the mind!

Snickers, whereabouts in Northern Thailand did you go/stay?

Laurette, I think your excitment is spreading to me!!! I'm doing a little happy dance for you!!

Kathy W
Hi girls,

Well three more things were ticked of Amanda's list today:

Cars booked

Veil ordered

Engraved wine glasses for bridal table ordered.

Laurette pm'd you the info for rock candy.

im getting my haircut tomorrow too hopefully nice and short. Its been a year and a half since its been cut and i hope they dont stuff it up!!!
Kathy W
Hi girls,

As I said in an earlier post Amanda had her first pre-wedding meeting with the priest she said it was ok and i think it helps that he is good friends with Paddy's mum she did say he made her feel very relaxed and comfortable.
