Hi there,
Is anyone else getting married at Vaucluse House? I went for lunch there with my fiance a couple of weeks ago and was shocked to find that they've refurbished with fuscia pink light fixtures (not in keeping with our white wedding theme at all). We've contacted the management but they are unwilling to change the lights. Has anyone else been notified of the re-decoration? Please contact them if you are unhappy - I figure we will have more strength in numbers.

I'm also booked to get married there in November this year and had no idea the lights were now pink :S Have they said whether they can even be covered for events?

Hi there,
We are also getting married in November. I've spoken both to freshcatering and the HHT about the redecoration and unfortunately you are not allowed to cover the lights and they will not remove them (apparently they cost $4K). The only option they gave us was to have the lights switched off and use lamps (but you would still be able to see them; there are around 16 pink light shades hanging from the roof and they are about 70cm in diameter - they look like huge pink spaceships!).
I strongly recommend that you go back to the the tearooms to see the changes to make sure you still love it. Personally we felt that the refurb had completely changed the look and feel of the venue. They've also painted the area around the toilets pink (not too bad) and laid a floral carpet over the wooden floorboards (which they said they could remove if necessary).
I asked freshcatering if they had notified all future bookings about the refurb and they told me that they had (which is clearly not the case as neither you nor I were notified). They said that they have only received positive feedback about the changes and that all their brides love the pink.
We are so devastated at the refurb (and the management's inflexibility) that we are canceling our booking and moving our reception to another venue.
Please do let me know how you get on with your discussions with them and good luck ;-)
