Hello ladies,
I havent been on here for a little while now, but DS has just really started to grasp the whole eating thing and now i am worried he is eating too much! (he will be 7months old in a few days)
I am a first time Mum so any advice would be appreciated
8am: wake up - 1/2 a weetbix, 1/2 (55g) jar of puree (apples etc) and 180ml formula
12pm: 1/2 jar (55g) of food (pumpkin/potato etc), 1/2 (55g) of custard and 180ml formula
4pm: 1/2 jar (55g) of food (pumpkin/potato etc), 1/2 (55g) of custard and 180ml formula
8pm: 180ml formula and bed.
I would appreciate any advice you ladies / gents have to offer

I hope not because my 4.5 month old is on:
7am BF + 1/2 cup rice cereal & fruit
11am BF + 180ml formula
3:30-4:30 BF
5:30 1/2 cup Vegies + 320ml formula
I was always told to feed babies until they refused? Worked for the other two anyhow....
ETA this morning it was almost 1 cup of food. We are galloping towards one whole cup but I am resisting as it's freaking me out a bit!

Honestly? enjoy it!! He is obviously hungry as I always heard this feed them till they refuse thing, both mine just simply refused from the start!!! The hardest part to my two at that age was eating - well more like their lack of eating.

I agree with the other girls - feed them till they refuse. You will find his eating won't continue to increase. Babies tend to plateau and then increase with growth spurts then plateau again. You said he has just got the hang of it so perhaps he is making up for lost time.

I would be guided by his behaviour and weight gain. Does he throw up after eating? Does he seem hungry at his next meal time? My son rarely refuses food so I can't just feed him until he refuses, I'd be feeding him all day long! Instead, I give him what seems appropriate and what he will readily take, and then give him a 15 min break or so to give him a chance to register if he is still hungry or not. Then I offer a bit more, and if he seems eager for it I will keep feeding him. If he is a bit ambivalent, I stop. Sometimes I give him mash first and then give him a couple of bits of finger food. If he is genuinely still hungry, he will have a good go at eating it, but if he's nearly full he just mucks around.
My son's just gone 8 months and his day looks like this.
Breakfast 8am ish: 1/2 weetbix and 1/4 bit of toast
Lunch 1ish: 2-3 tablespoons of whatever mash is on offer, or about 10 little chunks of meat, veg, fruit or bread/cracker (about thumbnail size)
Dinner 6pm ish: 2-3 tablespoons of whatever mash is on offer and then a couple of teaspoons of fruit mash.
He also has about 5 breastfeeds a day and one overnight.

My DS who is over 3 now was a huge eater up until the last few months..he still eats more than the average bear now but is not 'ravenous' all the time.
At 7 months he was eating 3 meals of a few courses at each (finger and mashy meals, meal + fruit, yogurt/custard to follow) + morning/afternoon tea and 3-4 bottles too.
He always ate alot more than the other babies I know. He was also the biggest child too.
Follow what the other girls have said. Feed til he refuses, if he is tolerating it well (not throwing up etc) than that is what is needs. All babies/toddler are different..some live on air and can be chubby and some eat like horses and are skinny (like mine!). There is no rule that suits all.
Enjoy that he is eating well! Maybe give him some soft finger foods so he can feed himself too, if he's into food he'll enjoy that too.

Thanks everyone

Will definitely be taking your advice and just going with it until he refuses.
He seems very happy with my feeding schedule as well as the amounts he is having so will just keep doing what i am doing

Thanks again!

Sounds about the same amount as our little one - I found with both my girls they got really hungry around 7 months and stayed that way for a while - I feed until she is bored or the food runs out. Agree with the plateau - she is now on three big meals and a couple of snacks a day and 3 or 4 milk feeds - do you give him plenty of water too?
I wouldn't worry at all sounds to me like he has worked out he likes food and is tucking in!
