A good friend has just had her second DD. I have no idea what to buy her.....

Her first was also a girl so no need for new boy things. She had a big baby shower for her first so got heaps of nice presents. They also have big family and always talk of heaps of hand-me -downs whch they love getting.

What do you usually buy for a second???

I have given towels embroidered with the baby's name before and they are always well received. We also quite often give those comforters with the bear heads on them.

I think it's nice to receive an item or two of clothing for the new baby. Even though they'll have heaps already it's nice to get new things. I have a lot of hand-me-downs for my baby and the other day I got a few new outfits as gifts and I was pretty chuffed.

If you know their style, perhaps a wall hanger with their name on it? We got one from friends but it's not really our style so I guess it's a bit of a risk.

I don't think you can go wrong with practical gifts, they are always well received. Claire we do the same!

*I usually buy 2 nice white towels and have the baby name embroidered, or I will buy one towel and one nice big cotton wrap and do the same with both.

*A few new season appropriate sized clothes are always good. Even though I had 2 boys, Ethan was born in Summer, then Lucas in the Winter, however we had a big crossover of sizes. Pumpkin Patch online have a good clearance on atm with free postage till the end of the month so you could pick up a bargain wrap, new little socks and some cheap outfits / bodysuits.

*New cot sheets, again something she will probably have, but worn from the toddler, however always nice to have a few new things for bubs.

*A few new bed time books. By the time Lucas came around 18mths after Ethan books mostly had ends chewed off, or ripped off. Do an order through the B00k Depository, will save you a bundle.

* New change mat cover. Sounds boring, but again perhaps existing ones are well worn. I buy these (nr bottom of page) they are so soft: http://www.kidsline.com.au/accessories.html

I can't think of anything that really stood out that Lucas got, actually he probably about 1/3 of the gifts Ethan did, not to mention cards.

While I had one of each gender, I did reuse a lot of the basics (sleepsuits etc.) for Adelaide.

Things like little TShirts for under dresses, new sleepsuits (especially in the crawler sizes), tights etc.? These are typically the things that got trashed (as opposed to the cute little outfits) so new ones of those might be nice?

You can't go wrong with something personalised smile.gif

I am a fan of doing little food kits for second babies because a lot of the spoons, pots, cups etc I had for Cate were trashed by the time Seamus came along. Getting some new equipment for starting solids never goes astray and it's a good gift to receive and put away for use a bit later. The last one I made up had little bowls, plastic pots, spoons, a water bottle, a posh cup, some plastic ware for storing food in the freezer, a few packs of Rafferty squeezies, a bib, a plastic plate and some wipes.

I did a personalized teddy bear (name and birth date on foot) when my friend had her 2nd DD and they loved it! I got it while I on a sale so was only $20 too which was great.

Something personalised is always lovely - some of those prints to hang on the wall, a wooden door sign, embroidered or personalised products from somewhere like !dent!ty Direct.

Or if she is a close friend what about a voucher for bubs to be professionally photographed.

One of the best presents I got was a personalised storage box to put all the memories like birth cards, a newspaper from the day of the birth, lock of hair etc. You can get them from Toys R Us I think.
