My name is Sabrina - I found this forum via google search and hoping to find some wisdom!
My husband and I have been married for almost 3 years - we had a very simple ceremony in London and due to immigration status we only had 2 weeks notice before the big day so our families couldn't attend (my family is in the US, his family is here in QLD). Since that day we have been trying to plan the "proper" wedding but have moved countries 3 times now, to settle in Australia for hopefully the last big move! Now we are finally in a place to start planning this vow renewal for our 5th year anniversary in May 2014.
As I've had to put off this wedding so many times I'm just wanting to do something laid back and fun for our close family and friends, about 20-30 people max. Our friend wants to be the celebrant and my family wants to visit Australia so I'm thinking island weekend wedding here in OZ is the best choice. I'm currently looking at Hamilton Island and am wondering about other's experiences. I'd rather not spend an arm and leg on this wedding and hubby and I are just thinking of staying on the island for the honeymoon.
So what's the deal with Hamilton? Is it the best suitable place for something like this? We will be having people from the US, UK and Australia at this wedding so the location needs to be easy to get to from the major airports as more than likely the overseas people will be staying on in OZ to see the sights.
Also, what is the best time? Summertime in the States and UK is from late May-early August so that will probably be the best time for everyone to take time off work but what will the weather be like?

Hamilton is a good idea - it has a range of different accommodation and lots to do, I would go to a smaller island like Daydream for your honeymoon.
You can fly to Hamilton from Brisbane, Sydney Melbourne and Cairns and you can fly from LAX to Brisbane direct. I would aim for May/June as July/August can be a bit cool on some days for swimming. You could also look at Palm Cove near Cairns if that tropical beach feel is what you are after, Cairns is a bigger centre and you can fly from UK to Singapore, Singapore to Cairns.

Thanks, CRose - that is exactly the wisdom I was looking for! We are going to have our friend officiate and he finishes school in May/June and June is when summer starts in the US so just have to figure out a more exact date. Hamilton sounds perfect for what I want - I'm going to look into it!
Daydream for the honeymoon, huh? Might have to look into that...
