Does anyone know much information about contacts?
I am looking online at clearly contacts and there are 8 different brands that I can use for my prescription and that is as far as I get. I don't understand the difference between them all which therefore results in me getting more confused and not knowing which ones to purchase!

My understanding different brands are all slightly different so feel different in your eyes. I would be asking where you had your eyes tested for some trial lenses...keep trying till you find ones that are comfy (1st go for me for day lenses, 2nd go for ones I can sleep in). They should also make you come back the day after sleeping in them or a week after wearing day ones, just to see how your eyes are going.
THen once you got the all clear I would be ordering the trial ones that worked best.

Im waiting untill i get better to trial mine
i asked my optomitrist(sp) none of its covered under medicare it cost me $70 dollars for a n hour to be shown how to put them in and take them out basic cleaning and using then $ 100 ever 3 months for a new set
I didnt Quilify for ones i can sleep in apparently you have to be wearing them for a year before you are allowed those ones so i have to wear the ones you take in and out .....utter pain honestly i hate poking myself in the eye
im allergic to the Johnson and Johnson Brand so we found out the hard way and have a couple more to try out once im better

You should be covered under medicare for all your appoinments. I have been. I don't get anything medicare wise for the actual contacts but I have always been bulk billed for my eye tests and to see the optomitrist(SP, I copied your spelling, lol). I have mostly gone to OPSM except once I went to BigW.
Mumma3 - where abouts are you looking online? I woud love to get my cheaper, can you claim PHI on them online still?

classes? Can't say I ever had a "class". When I first got my contacts he went through it all (not that it was much) while I was there but I don't remember having to pay for it, Although it was about 6 years ago...

Last time I went to the optometrist, I got a trial pair of contacts. I had to go back a week later so they could check them in my eyes and I got charged for that. They also would have charged me more if I had needed to be shown how to care for them...that is not covered by Medicare.
I also had to pay the time before that, as I got the monthly ones you can sleep in so had to have a follow up appointment which I had to pay for and which was not covered by Medicare.
Contact lens prescriptions only last for 12 months, so if you're buying online you can get around that by just ticking the "yes I have a current prescription" (even if you haven't been to the optometrist in 6 years) but some online places actually ask for the name of your optometrist etc so I guess they check.
I personally wouldnt go that long (ie 6 years) without having my contact lens prescription checked, as it can change, and is a bit different to your glasses...just my opinion

Most of mine was covered by medicare. I've been wearing them for 14 years now and I don't go get them checked that often

Though I have been in the last year...go me!!
I never had classes, I was just shown with the sample they gave me...lucky I find it so easy. My friend gave up as it used to take her 40 mins per eye
I have sleeping ones and I love them...but I have really really bad eyesight so it gives me that extra freedom

I mainly wear glasses now, though I do wear contacts on the odd occasion. I'm covered by medicare for the consultation & I believe it depends on how bad your eyesight is etc. I'm -5, so they consider that a reason to be covered as I'm in the higher bracket of being short sighted etc.
I've only really ever used Acuvue. I guess you could ask for a few brands as a trial?
Good luck

I'm -6 and no one believes me when I tell them because I always wear the contacts.
For the record I use the Focus Day and nights

I only have a few brands available to me due to my prescription (astigmatism and long sighted).
I did go in to an optometrist to see if I could have them and they ordered in trials but then they continued to stuff around my appointments which I couldn't handle when I had someone watching the kids for that 1/2 hr so I could go in there then they screw me around.
So I was trying to find a way around it cause I don't have the time to go in there and wait to be shown how to put them in when I can't take the kids in or even the baby and don't have the availability to have them watched.
I was looking at clearlycontacts.com.au
I am able to get Soflens. Acuvue avance. Acuvue oasys. Air optix. Encore Toric. Proclear toric xr. Proclear toric. And Purevision toric.
Some are weekly and some monthly but that is the only difference I know other than price!
Just so sick of glasses and want to be able to wear my sunnies again with ease esp coming up to summer and the strong sun and glare in summer the transitions in glasses dont cut it!

I do recommend clearly contacts though. I got my last order only last week actually! And I get double what I can get if i just go to opsm!
I can't help you with those contacts though. I wear monthlies (that usually last a lot longer

)

Hahaha I so understand about how bad your eyes are but people don't realise. Mine are ~ -5 and I have astigmatism in one eye and the other is slightly lazy (not noticeable, I don't think

).
I'll have to check clearly out next time I do an order, but that wont be for awhile because I have only used 1 out of a pack of 6 for each eye (because they are different script).
I really have to say I didn't pay anything for my appointment the other month when I had to go back and get the night ones checked, its my first time with night ones. But maybe because I am in the negatives aswell. I dunno.
I do hate trying to take my night ones out, I find them alot harder to grab then the day only ones I had. I also don't like how dry my eyes are some mornings, but I do love how I can just get up and go, and I can fall asleep on the couch and not worry, or not worry about forgetting to take them out when I go to bed and to only remember once I'm nice and comfy.
