Borders are having a sale online at the moment so I wanted to stock up on a few books.

No idea what to get, trolling through the other thread to get some ideas, but was wondering if anyone read My Sister's Keeper and if it's any good?

Any other suggestions?

TIA

ETA: Just browsing through their general fiction section and some more that look interesting (sad to say I normally pick books based on what the covers look like! tongue.gif)

Mama Mia by Mia Freeman

Ive read both of those and liked them both. My Sisters Keeper is really good, much much better than the movie if you have seen it.

Mama Mia is a good lighter read, if its a good price i would get it.

Um trying to think of other books......Marley and Me is good once you get past the first two chapters. 10 gazzilion times better than the movie

I cant think of anymore sorry.

Thanks Kisma, I haven't seen the movie yet so might read the book first. And I love light reading books, especially after a looong day with DS and his tantys!!

Borders sale is 30% off and free delivery, what more could you ask for? biggrin.gif

Any other recs ladies? Would love to hear some more!

My sisters Keeper was a great read, along with all of the jodi picoult books that i've read. I'd have to say that Handle with care was my favourite though. i'm yet to read her new one "house rules" but plan to when my mum finishes it!

I'm going through a bit of a chick lit/motherhood phase.

Friends, Lovers and Other Indiscretions by Fiona Neill looks interesting too.

Emm - I saw a stack of books by Jodi Picoult. Not a fan of her book covers tongue.gif Any particular ones of hers you'd recommend? I might try one to start with. Duh, just realised My Sister's Keeper is by her. Oops!

I was coming back in to say if you like light reading, then you cant get much lighter than these. Once again the movie doesnt even come close, in fact the movie was crap laugh.gif These books can be quite amusing and sometimes a little odd lol, but so quick to read and doesnt matter if you put them down for a week and then come back.

And the Borders sale sounds good. Must not go on their website, must not go on their website.........

I've not read any of the ones that you've mentioned.

One book that I loved is The Book Thief if you haven't read it. Really good story, not too hard to read, though it is a weepy - even though I knew what was coming I sobbed at the end!

Another good one was People of the Book (I think that's what it was called). I really enjoyed it.

Everything else I've read lately has been pretty tough going - thought I would get them out of the way before bubs arrives. I'm reading The Princess Bride at the moment - if you like the movie you'll like the book.

I've been reading a fair bit of Chick Lit stuff lately - Marian Keyes, Monica McInerney, Jodi Picoult etc

Bookdepository.com is brilliant for cheap books. I rarely spend more than $10 per title, and it is free shipping.

I loved Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, similar story lines but a really good read.

I'm another fan of bookdepository.. I love that place!

I loved My Sister's Keeper and The Pact by Jodi Picoult but none of the others did much for me, I kind of felt like I was reading the same stories over and over.

I love Jonathan Safran Foer, he is my favourite author, he has two fiction novels "Everything's Illuminated" and "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" both are excellent, they aren't exactly in the 'light reading' category, but they aren't especially heavy either.

My two other favourites are "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini (which is quite heavy) and "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger, I have re-read these books a zillion time.

The best book I've read recently was "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, I would recommend that one as well.

Sorry if that's not much help, I don't really read much light and fluffy stuff.

Ahhhh Lisa Lu. I just placed my order with Borders and saw your link about bookdepository. Ahhhh!!

Thanks for the link. I'll be sure to check there first next time I order. So I saved about $30 on what I've bought. That's pretty good I guess!

MissNic - I saw your recommendation on The Book Thief in the other thread. Looks interesting, but I might stick to light stuff for now. smile.gif

I have read almost all of Jodi Picoult's books and the only one so far I haven't loved was The Tenth Circle...in fact I'd almost say I hated it!!! Haven't read the latest one, House Rules yet but will be buying it soon!

What about Janet Evanovich

Jodi books... I've only read Handle with care, My sisters keeper and Change of heart, all of which I really enjoyed.

I started Keeping Faith, but found it a little too much for me at the time and didn't finish it.

I read this in about 24 hours. I could not put it down, but I just remember that it's one of very few books that have really 'gotten' to me. I was devastated by it.

I've read another Khaled Hosseini book - A Thouand Splendid Suns, and it was very different storyline, but similar basis if that makes sense. Again, I was very emotional after reading it.

I'm not sure that my sister actually finished The Kite Runner, she didn't like it at all.

They are very heavy, but if you are into that, they are a great read.

One of my favourite books is Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. Not really a light book, kinda in the medium vein. I highly recommend it if anyone is looking for an interesting book to read.

Kate beat me too if, if you like The Kite Runner try reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, I loved them both but preferred his second book a bit more, reading about women back then was fascinating but sad at the same time.
