My dr rang me the other day and said my last test results said I had thrush and asked if I have been itchy etc. I haven't been. I have never had thrush and have no idea.

So should I treat it or not? The last thing I want is to have a newborn and be very itchy. What do I use to treat it while pregnant. I feel soooo clueless.

TIA

The Dr told you that you have thrush but didn't tell you what to do about it, or how to deal with it during pregnancy?? God where do these Drs come from, the mind boggles.

Personally I think given you are pregnant, you really need to seek medical advice on what to do. I am baffled as to how they can hand out the diagnosis, but not the treatment advice to go with it!

everything Jo said...

I agree with Jo, double check with your Dr.

You can get creams from the chemist, dont get a one dose if they ask you, get a five day course or so. I think the one day ones are useless. You can also use natural plain yoghurt (no sugar) to use the same way.

I'd be speaking to your doctor/a pharmacist about the best way to treat it. I'm pretty sure you can't use the pessaries while you are pregnant.

She said to me that your test results showed you have thrush have you been itchy or anything and I said no not at all. Then she said oh well we will address it after you have baby, this was over the phone. But the thought of bleeding and treating it then doesn't appeal to me much IYKWIM.

What Em said, I had it very early on with K & B and could only use pessaries.

When I had my strep B swab with B it came back that I had it as well but no symptoms of it and I've had thursh quite a few times so I know what its like. Because I was having a c-sect my OB didn't treat me either and said it was very common at that stage of my pregnancy (37 weeks) and my body would correct the imbalance once B was born, which it did.

If you're really concerned, speak to a pharmacist, they'll be able to advise you on what treatment you should use.

I got thrush when I was pregnant and could only use the pessaries - cleared it up and AB seems fine smile.gif. Speak to your pharmacist and they'll help you out.

Your pharmacist should be able to help you smile.gif

I have never had it before in my life until this pregnancy. The hospital recommended a 4 or 6 day course of the pessaries, before the birth because there is a chance it may transfer to the baby during birth. I also imagine it would be very ouchy inserting pessaries following birth ohmy.gif

Trust me, it is very ouchy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must have had it when I gave birth to the little man and now we both have it everywhere (7 weeks post birth)!

In his mouth, on my nipples and the other spot to ph34r.gif

Seek treatment now Lena, it is horrible to have to deal now (with a newborn and a sore body etc).

I got it twice while pregnant after being pumped with AB's following hospital stays.

Em is right, you can't take the oral medication but several doctors told me pessaries are fine, which is what I used. They told me the only precaution to take is to make sure you don't insert them too far (e.g. use your finger and not the applicator).

Both times I took a five day course and it completely resolved. smile.gif

Lena I had a women in my MG who was advised to leave it post birth to treat and rued that dr's advice.

Treat it now with a pessarie - your pharmacist will be able to advise you

Lena I have had thrush so many times (yuck sad.gif ) and by far (for me) the most effective treatment is inserting the cream for six days. The oral tablet did nothing (you can't take during pregnancy anyways) and any less than six days of treatment and the thrush can flare up again (for me anyways).

I got thrush with my last pregnancy and it was the only time I had it without symptoms. I used the cream and used the applicator to insert but I didn't insert it all the way, about half way did the trick.

There is no way in hell I would want to be treating it post birth blink.gif My whole 'area' was a no-go zone for weeks!!! laugh.gif Would not have wanted to have been inserting anything!! Also, why wait that long? If you treat now you could be done and dusted with it within the week wink.gif

Consuming yoghurt or other products (eg., capsules) containing the ‘good’ bacteria, lactobacilli
can help balance out your system from the inside. Trying dropping down on sweets and sugars in general too and this may help regulate the thrush.

I am feeling a bit jealous that you've never had it before. When my period returned post birth, I was getting thrush every cycle...until I feel pregnant again!!! Nightmare!

I hope it clears up quickly for you smile.gif
