Ok so i just got the implanon for the first time last tues at my 6-wk check up after having bubs and i got AF vertually as soon as it had been in there for a few hours wacko.gif It is heavy like they used to be on the first day of AF and havn't eased or stopped yet. sleep.gif

I have never used any form of contraceptive (actually i lie i tried the pill and it made me have my periods for 2 wks and i stopped it so my periods ould stop) as i was scarred of not being able to concieve, as it is it took just over 2 yrs for our little one.

But as i am not sure if i want anymore, i deffinantly don't want any in the next few yrs so i thought i will get the best method of birth control (in my eyes, easy/convenient).

So i was wondering what your experiences were with this as your birth control, what were your side effects if you had any, Have you ever heard of anyone with this same reaction, and what was AF like for you using it?????

Thanks happy.gif

I was on implanon for 3 years and honestly I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, my experiences while it was in was quite good, especially for the first 2 years but in the third year I started having massive mood swings and put on a lot of weight, once the implanon was removed we started TTCing and it took over 2 years to finally conceive because the implanon had wreaked havoc on my hormones and cycles (sometimes my cycle was as long as 190+ days!). Personally I would get it removed and go with another form of contraception.

Thanks for your opinion hon. And a huge CONGRATS to you!! wub.gif

I am seriously considering getting it removed if AF isn't gone by nxt wk, i can't handle having AF especially as i had bleeding post brith for 5 wks, im still healing dammit!! Give me a break wacko.gif

I had one put in in January, and honestly have had prob allup 15 days where i havent bled sad.gif

If wedidnt have all that we do going on, i would have it removed in a heartbeat, But we absolutley cannot conceive another now (even thogh Sophie took 4 years and 3 IVf cycles, we're not willing to risk being on of 'those' couples that conceive easily 2nd time around)

I had Implanon put in about 4 years ago now. I guess the advantage for me is that it was so convenient in that my boyfriend at the time (now my DH) and I travelled for 7 months so I didn' t have to worry about the pill and the timing.

The side effects were it gave me very painful cysts along my jawline, and I had irregular periods - one period went for 10 weeks. Not heavy, but just enough to be annoying huh.gif

With TTC, I had it removed 3 months before our wedding, firstly to give time for the cysts to go away, and to give my body a break from any artificial hormone.

When we started TTC 3 months after our wedding, we conceived our DD on the very first attempt. We were extremely lucky, especially since I'd had years of chronic endometriosis.

So, for us, Implanon did not ahve any affect on our ability to conceive.

I had mine about 6 years for all of, 4 months?

Irregular, heavier than normal periods, and it sent me PSYCHO. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, in fact, I warn everyone about it. Awful awful awful!!

I could've nearly written that myself. I had normal 28-30 day cycles prior to implanon, and when I got it out 2.5 years later cycles were anything from 21-100+ days. It took close to 3 years to conceive. On the up side, I was advised by my midwife that the best thing to sort out your hormones is a pregnancy. I breastfed for 10 months and was nervous about when/if AF would return and it's like the good old days. 30ish day cyles, no longer as painful or heavy.

Another thing that concerned me with implanon was when I went to have it removed the Dr told me to be on alert for any lumps in my arm, or the breast the same side that the implanon was injected. This scared me a little that I wasn't warned prior to having it injected.

Good luck with your decision!

I had one also, but i only had mine in for about 6 months. I persisted with it that long as i was hopeful the constant bleeding/spotting would stop eventually. But it didn't.

My side effects were bad acne, weight gain (URGH!) and probably mood swings, it was a while ago now.

I now have a mirena iud - and while they are not for everyone, they are for me, I am on my 2nd one now (so 6 yrs all up) and I love that i do not have to think about it, and there is no way (or very minimal liklihood) i can fall pregnant.

I've had two implanons.

After the second one was removed we conceived Odin on the 3rd month of trying.
My cycle was 28 days straight after removal.

I didn't experience any of the affects the other women have mentioned, although I am unsure whether my moodiness is natural or implanon related wink.gif

I didn't bother with contraception after Odin was born because I heard that female hormones from the pill, etc, can be passed to the baby via breastmilk - which is okay if you have a girl, but I was wary having a boy.

I look back at the brief few months I had implanon as the most horrible time in my life.. it was awful!!

I had mirena put in after Master F arrived, and although that took about three months to settle down it was nothing on the implanon.. I now forget about the mirena being there, which is great!

That said, having a small child in a bedroom across the hall who is a very light sleeper is the best contraceptive method Ive found tongue.gif
