Hello all again,

I am unfortunately here again after I had a miscarriage in early Feb at 7 weeks so we are trying again after having my first AF after that terrible experience. I really hope I am not here too long and I hope none of you are here long either.

Just wanted to let you all know that I have my FS appointment. I'm really going to stress to them that I want results. I want to know they are going to work with me, and not just tell me to lose weight. But most of all, I am going to request a CA-125 test to make sure that there is no trace of Ovarian Cancer. I hope that in me asking for this rest they will know I'm serious about everything.

Still no AF for me. And no positive test either. I guess another thing to work out with the FS.

I'm going to my Grandmothers place this weekend for my Uncles Wedding. I think that it's going to be a boring weekend but it's something that I think both hubby and I need. It's about 3 1/4 hours from Brisbane. Hopefully the weather is clear.

Anyway, just though I'd get the thread moving. blush.gif

When is your appointment? Keep us updated smile.gif

You might have fun at your Uncle's wedding, when you think it might not be so good your expectations are low, you may be surprised smile.gif

Still no AF for me, i'm not hopeful though for this month though, I think it's just me effed up body again. Stressed badly at work probably not helping dry.gif

That's good to hear you've got another appt Beth. Just a piece of advice from me on the FS front. I think you're right on the money, when you say you want them to know you're serious about it all..

From my experience only, I had a really positive one. & TBH I think that came about because from
the second I walked in to the room I made it clear I knew more than some other women do, and that I wanted a result - basically there & then.

Use all the lingo, make it clear to him you've done your research, you've explored your options & 'this' is what you expect out of your appt.

Yes, they are the specialists, and there's no doubt they know a lot more than us, but that doesn't mean they're always right. Everyone is different, and if you make it clear to
him/her of your wishes, whilst using all the approriate terminology they won't be able to say no tongue.gif

I walked out of my very first FS appt on the sunshine coast here, with what I wanted(within reason). Clomid & pessaries. It hasn't worked (as yet), but I'm certainly a lot hAppier knowing I tried this with his agreeance also that he thought it was the first step for me.

Arm yourself with all your knowledge, all your tests, your charts (if u can print them out), etc. Anything that will help you & your case!

In all my research, I think you're a primary candidate for clomid - more so than I! I still am, buy given I ovulate & you don't (sometimes), that is really what they issue clomid for...

Good luck hun x

Nothing of interest to report
bmee
My FS office called to say there had been an emergency and wanted to cancel my appointment and re-locate it. I think I was a bit of a b!tch and said that I had to take annual leave to make this appointment (which I have) and requested to see someone else today. Now they've moved my appointment by 15 minutes and said that I might have to wait to get in.

I don't know if this is what I should have done or not....

I feel now that because it's so late in the afternoon and the receptionist said that he has transfers to do in the afternoon after me that he's not going to pay that much attention to me... I don't know if I should be going to this appointment or trying to re-book sad.gif

I was thinking about this earlier. I don't really have charts or anything as it's really difficult to get motivated when your cycle is 100 days plus sad.gif I believe that I do know what I am talking about and I really want to get onto Climod but I feel a little off demanding it. Is it something that I can ask for straight out? I just am feeling sooo flustered after them wanting to change the appointment that I don’t know what I’m doing!

Nicole HELP!!! Talk me through this!!!!!!
Nicole_R
Just got your PM. Oh sweetheart, what a pickle. You just can't get a break, can you? sad.gif

Ok, let me get this straight. Your appt has been moved, but it is still with the same FS? Or has she made you an appointment with someone else to get you in? Have you seen this new FS before, or is it your very first appt with him/her? If it's your first appt does it matter If it's with someone else or would u prefer said person?

I've got to admit I would be a little concerned if it felt like they were only seeing me because I had pushed so hard for it, And that there's the possibility the FS might be a little pre-occupied mind wise with someone else. Hmm, it's a hard one. I guess it's really a bit of give & take here. I understand your frustration, really I do, but perhaps think if it was you they were fitting in as an emergency transfer (I gather that's what this is?) would you want 'the other person' (in this case you) understanding? I think I would.. JMO there babe. I really do understand your frustration (I'm certainly not the most patient person!)..

Don't worry about the charts - I didn't have many, and to be really honest he barely glimpsed at them, let alone looked at them. He was more interested in my other formal tests,

You've got PCOS right? Pls forgive me if i've got this wrong, but in your case YES! Definitely ask for it! That's what I pretty much did. & I'd only been in the room for 5minutes - if that. I think i said something like "I'd really like to give Clomid a go" and he agreed. It was really very easy. I think by that time he'd realised I knew what I was talking about & not had no idea.

I really think you'll be ok. You know more than you give yourself credit for hun. I've read it from
you. & let's face it, after 2+ years, you'd have a pretty good idea - as I did.

Is Clint going with you?

Just make sure you really arm yourself when your going in there. Perhaps even make notes before you go, and read off them? Make them point form, so u don't forget anything and just be sure to make then short & sweet so you can word them in your own words when you're in there.

All you have to do is make him aware you're not silly, and you've been on this rollercoaster for too long now & you want results! & from your research you find Clomid is most suited to you (it's what they use to make you ovulate) as a starting point.

If you're not happy with this one, PM me. Mine is on the sunshine coast. A bit further, but oh so worth it!!!
bmee
Thank you soo much for that hun. I just went into panic mode. The lady called me and I thought “I Just can’t wait until another appointment”. I asked her if anything else was available today with any of the other doctors etc and then she just pushed my appointment back. When I got off the phone I started to feel guilty. My appointment has been moved from 3:45 – 4pm and I’m going by my self. I can’t stand Clint being around for this stuff just yet. He would fluster me with questions that I could probably answer. This is a new doctor that I haven’t seen before and I don’t want to waist my appointment with things like that.

My biggest concern with this was I didn’t know if I should just go in there and say

“Right. I’ve got PCOS, been TTC for 2 years and counting. Been on Metformin since January 2010 and not noticed any changes in anything. Mum has had Ovarian Cancer and her CA-125 levels are going up again, my sister has had issues with abnormal cells in her cervix and had surgery for CIN 1. I’m sick of not ovulating and want to be proactive on what ever I can so that we have a positive result.”

I don’t know if this is being too direct. And I don’t know if he is going to want to conduct his own tests prior to moving forward and giving me a go with anything else.

I’m just being a wimp and I don’t know why!!!

I know that it was really pushy of me to try and get in today. And not that I’m any different to anyone else that will be there today, I just was frustrated they call me on the day instead of say Friday. I could have been more understanding, but if I moved it, I would be waiting another month to get annual leave approved. sad.gif

I’m freaking out about it. Been through this before… why am I so concerned now?????
Nicole_R
Panic mode is understandable. Youre only human.

Pushy? No. Assertive? Yes. & there's nothing wrong with that! Heck, after 2+ years it's warranted!

What you're going to say is perfect. Just a tip, be sure to make them aware you HAVE done your research and this isn't just a 'whim', for lack of a better word. After all, they are still doctors and they need to know they're prescribing it to someone that understands (or is willing to).

Umm.. What else..

You're not being a wimp Beth. This is a hard game, and you're only going through the
motions associated with it. One minute you can be up, the next you can be scared as hell. Just know were all here for you lovely.

I understand what you're saying, and don't fret, a lot of us (me included!) probably wouldve reacted exactly the same way. You're right, they could have called you sooner. But then again, on the other hand, unfortunately that's the super great way ( rolleyes.gif ) in which these things work...

Thanks for your words hun. I am just feeling a little stuck at the moment. I'm just at Mums at the moment and I want to tell her ther we're TTC but she's started to talk about all the tests and stuff that she's going through before her operation. I don't want to tell her I'm still having problems.

Will let you know how I go this arvo.
bmee
Ok.. well I'm back at home now and feeling a hell of a lot better.

I don't know what happened. I was OK this morning and was excited about going and seeing someone new. Then they tried to change the appointment to another day. Then checked in and they told me that they were just going to get the first doctor that they could to see me. I felt very unsettled and pushed aside with all of this. After I had a chance to think about it, alot of things probably screwed up their day, and me not moving my appointment was probably one of them. sad.gif

I ended up seeing a different doctor but was very happy with him. He asked what he could do for me and I let it rip. I told him about mum and ovarian cancer, my sister and her abnormal cells, me and PCOS. He was frantically writing everything down on a pathology slip of things to test. He wanted to know about genetic issues within the family and what we were wanting to do with everything. We both agreed that I am more then likely not ovulating and will need to go on something like Climod to help us along with that. I will be going back in 2 weeks time after all the tests are done so that we can start treatment. Hubby will also be getting Hep B & C and HIV testing as well as test on his sperm. We're just covering all basis just in case.

I think the only thing that disheartened me over all is our chances of conceiving without assistant. He said that with my cycles being as bad as they the chances of us falling pregnant are zipp. Without assistance that is.... He said that I am more then likely not ovulating and it's just my uterus shedding what is left over there as it's built up. I've been thinking this since my 163 day cycle. Hopefully these test will confirm everything.

He had a look at my ovaries and explained it all to me. He said that he can see there are definitely eggs there that are ready to birst, but they just don't want to because my hormones aren't building up. He and I both hope this is the only issue but he has discussed IUI and IVF also.

So that is my day. I'm calmer now....

It's wonderful he is testing you for all of that as well. I forgot to mention that. Luckily I had already had those tests done prior to my appt; so I guess in that sense we were fast tracked.

Beth - I'm so glad you were happy with your doctor and got a positive outcome from the appointment! sad.gif about it probably being the end of trying naturally, but if something can kick-start your ovulation then that's already such a big step towards having a bubba smile.gif

LadyR - you give such great advice! Your positivity and generosity in these threads is invaluable wub.gif I hope that soon you can move that positivity to another part of this forum!! (June???)

Becca - any chance your pains could be implantation pains? It'd never hurt to keep up the BDing to cover all your bases wink.gif

Rosi - I'm so sorry your procedure and all the complications has knocked you about so much sad.gif I'm sending wishes for a quick recovery from now on, and then you can get back to TTCing properly smile.gif I know you mentioned a few weeks ago about wanting an iPhone but being concerned about Beth and my comments. Sometimes it is frustrating, but I adore mine and will never go back to another phone! It's when you start comparing it to a proper computer, which it obviously isn't, where it falls short. I-do is a bit slow because of all the pics/sigs etc but other forums and sites are pretty good. I can still type at about 40wpm on it (this whole post is being written on the train!) and I just let the odd typo through (I'm sure you've picked them up!) it is great as a business tool and I'm on the run all day so it's my lifeline to the outside world!

iPhone evangelism over wink.gif

good luck to you all and I'm ever-stalking.

Nicole Thank you again for talking through my spak attack!

rosi81 I am glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery. Are you still at work during all this recovery time? Have you had any other issues since this last lot of surgery? I hope that it all settles down for you and that your road back to TTC is a short one.

anon_e_mouse I can’t believe that you can type 40 WPM on your iPhone!!!! That’s amazing. Mines starting to go a little slow because of the amount of stuff on it. Although the iPhone and I have our arguments I probably wouldn’t go back to another phone either. Infact, I hope that there is a new one available by the time my contract is up in December. Mine will be 2 years old then…..

Hayley Sorry AF showed up hun…. I’m still waiting for mine. *grrrr*

Thank you to everyone else that looked in on my little panic attack yesterday. This can sometimes feel like a very lonely journey when your moving from one month to the next. I hope to graduate soon but feel like I just keep repeating year 1 because I don’t know my ABC’s. I’m going to go and get all my test done either tomorrow or Thursday morning so that I am fresh for my next appointment.

I probably didn’t mention too much. I have an appointment on 13/04 to see them again. They want hubby to come in for sperm tests but we can’t find any time for him to do this prior to May sad.gif. In the meantime, he will get the Hep B&C and HIV bloodwork done so they at least have that. From there, we’ll do what we need to do…

I’m doing overtime again tonight…. Tax man is going to LOVE me again.

NP smile.gif

Are you sure your hubby can't get in before May?? Given May is still over a month away, it's still a fair while, more so in TTC terms! Has he had one before?

It's really very simple. Is he getting it done AT the FS, or a pathology place? When C had his done it was just a matter of him doing it that morning, early before he went to work, and I drove it (gross, much? He found much joy out of this LOL) to the lab. All you do is give them a call, whichever one you're going to, and let then know preferably the day before so they can be ready for you bringing it in the next morning. From memory it had to be at their clinic (there's stacks of locations!) within 30mins or something? This allowed them just enough time (too much time and it will be no good as it dies very quickly in the wrong temperature) to get it before the courier picked it up to drive it to the lab in the city where they have all the proper facilities to store/test it.

I'm just concerned for you.. If he can't get to do it until May, will the results be back in time for your FS to see them before your next appt?

I hear you on the iPhone! I just got a brand newie today as mine was an absolute lemon & just kept stuffing up. It's greatnow, being new & all, but I know the fascination won't last. Without a doubt one of the worst phones ever IMO.

Hi all,

Can I join in here? As my ticker shows, DH and I will begin TTC#1 April 20 (my 38th birthday).

I have no idea what most of the acronyms used here are- I have alot to learn. All I've done so far is start taking Nature's Own Pregnancy Platinum.

Looking forward to reading your posts and learning alot from you all biggrin.gif

Welcome Anica smile.gif you have the same name as my step-daughter. Except hers is spelt AniKa. Does yours sound more like Anita, but with a c instead of t, or is it the other way? She is forever called with the sounding of Anita..
anica789
Thanks LadyR biggrin.gif

Anica is just my username- my name is Nic. Anica came from trying to get a hotmail address many moons ago. Having a common, boring name is a PITA sometimes laugh.gif
Nicole_R
Oh! laugh.gif way to get a persons hopes up, Nic?? tongue.gif lol. Just when I thought I'd finally met someone with that same name. It's so uncommon! It's Dutch.

Well, in any case I'm known as Nic too, short for Nicole smile.gif
anica789
Yep, another Nicole here. laugh.gif

Two Nicole's huh. It was like that when Beth and I were in the same TTC cafe. I was known as b.skene and she was Beth. It was ok though smile.gif

Nicole I haven't a clue about hubby and getting his boys tested. It's been done at the FS as they have their own labs there. I haven't asked about me taking the sample in, I might do that. The only other option is hubby walking up there and 'doing it' during his lunch break. He only gets an hour though and I really don't know how he'd go with 'finishing' in time.

*excuse me*

LMAO

I know that testing hubby is something that they want to do to cover all basis, and May is a REALLY long time for me, but in saying that also, I really believe that I am the problem, not him. Not that I have any proof of that. I mean, it would be good to know what his swimmers are doing, but I don't know if I want to know either. wacko.gif I think I'd lose the plot if he had problems too. It would be a lot to take in. We will see what we can arrange. I know that he'll get his blood work done on Saturday and I will go in either tomorrow morning or the following day. I just want to make my stuff the priority. If you know what I mean.

Thanks for looking after me hun xo

I read on FB that you have your new phone. What happened to your old one to make it a lemon? It's good that it was replaced with minimal fuss biggrin.gif

Welcome Nic! Come join us here. Your TTC shortly anyway. We had a lot of people leave us in the March thread, we had like 5 BFP's or something. Hopefully we can keep the ball rolling in here smile.gif

I wouldn't worry too much about the acronyms for the time being. You'll get the hang of them soon enough! Sounds like you've done the right thing to start out with taking vitamins. Keep it up biggrin.gif

Not much else to report on my end. AF still hasn't arrived but I'm not too worried about that. It'll come in time. I just hope that I don't have another 160+ day cycle If that's the case and I'm on Clomid then I might not be able to start taking it for a little while yet. Fingers, toes and everything else are crossed that it all 'just falls into place'.

Anyhoo, I have to start dinner. Darn overtime is taking over my life!

Thanks Beth! biggrin.gif

**forgot to add something**

I was looking at buying first response HPT's from ebay.... With the exchange rate at the moment I can get 6 for about $30 delivered.

I have a huge amount of IC OPK and HPT's but I don't know how reliable they actually are...
(would help if I ovulated to show the positive OPK or if I were pregnant to confirm the positive HPT to draw any real conclusions on it)

I'm also looking for first response OPK's to purchase in bulk....

Am I being silly and just wasting money?

Hi everyone,

I have been MIA, but am back again for April and hoping for a BFP. How exciting was the end of March hey!! I have been naughty and eating too much sugar...so will have to reign that in as not good with PCOS short or long term.

B.skene - what are IC OPK's, I haven't heard of IC. I use Lull@by Conceptions OPK's and HPT. They were recommended to me by a specialist in the fertility area (alternative, not Assisted). I like Lull@by Conceptions, the prices are pretty good too, I think (but I haven't done much shopping around). If I got a BFP I might go and buy another brand, just to check out - and because I would be sooooo excited and would want to be sooooo sure!!

Take care everyone!! Lets hope for some dusty dancing!!

Good to see you back again.

IC - Internet Cheapies. I think the ones I got were from Or@cle

I was going to get Lull@by Conceptions ones and can't remember why I went with the others in the end.

Just saw there First Response ones and thought... why not. Second thought was I need to run it past someone else tongue.gif

Sorry didn't mean to post as AEM before biggrin.gif seems my phone is still logged on to that account.

Beth - bought FR tests in 3-packs at the supermarket, and full-price they're about $16 or on sale at about 12-13, so if you just look every time you go in and buy a few packs when they're cheap it's cheaper than online!

The single packs are more expensive, but if you happen to get a BFP with your first one out of a 3-pack, then you can still use the others to confirm the line over the next few days!

I used Lullaby Conceptions OPKs and they worked a treat for me - I know they haven't for some other girls. I've only ever tried the FR tests and I didn't really test at all until January because I found it less stressful to just wait and see.....

It's really very simple. Is he getting it done AT the FS, or a pathology place? When C had his done it was just a matter of him doing it that morning, early before he went to work, and I drove it (gross, much? He found much joy out of this LOL) to the lab.

laugh.gif Lunch break should be heaps of time laugh.gif laugh.gif ph34r.gif I would just make him do it then tongue.gif Seriously how long would it take? blink.gif laugh.gif I am sure his work would understand if he was a few minutes late back. As for worrying about the results, its only natural but you need to know what you are dealing with.
Nicole_R
Nic, I believe there is a thread pinned at the top of the TTC section of these boards which explains all the different acronyms. It was really useful for me in the beginning! Have a look, I'm pretty sure it's there smile.gif

Beth, i'd definitely be getting him to duck up there in his lunch break.. If he's as serious about all of this as you are he should be happy to. I second what Hayley said biggrin.gif with your IC too hun, maybe give the LC ones a go? Reason being I tried the Or@cle ones for months, and was forever wondering why they weren't giving me a clear test line. Turned out they didn't work for me. I went on to LC and haven't looked back. They're a little more expensive compared to the or@cle brand, but worth it if they work... I agree with Louise too, you'd be better off getting the 3 packs when they're on sale at Woollies (which is pretty often up here).

anica789
Cool, thanks! Yep, will definitely help!

Sorry Beth, I forgot to answer your question about the iPhone. Gosh, where do I start?? It would be easier to say what WASN'T wrong with it. That's how bad it was. The backlight went off about a month ago, and had never come back on. So in order for me to use the phone I had to be directly under a light at all times. The predictive (how it predicts the word you're going to use when writing texts) didn't work at all. It would be fully charged yet just turn itself off & come up with the picture of the battery on the screen (what it does when it's charging). There's heaps more but I won't even bother - that in itself should speak louder than words dry.gif

Then about a week ago it turned off and stayed off for about 3 days and just died. So that was the final straw for me (I was trying to hang on to the phone because it was my only source of net haha) - I rang Apple and got an appt at the Genius Bar at chermside shopping centre yesterday & they gave me a new phone.

I had a look through the abbreviations thread- it was very useful. I'm still not sure of a couple used in here though: blush.gif

TIE- ???

CD- ???

DPO- Days past ovulation biggrin.gif

BFP- Big fat positive biggrin.gif

Not sure of the context in here though- people are obviously stating the stage they are at, but I don't know exactly what all of it means put together IYKWIM blush.gif
Nicole_R
TIE - taking it easy

CD - cycle day. Cycle day 1 being the first day of AF (aunt flow a.k.a your period)

ask away smile.gif

Days Past Ovulation - this is calculated from the actual day of O (ovulation). DPO 1 = 1 day After O and so forth.
