Hey Ladies smile.gif

Ive been debating whether to write this post or not for about a week now!

Just before xmas, my mum, little sister and I went gown shopping and in all but 1 shop it was a complete nightmare! One of the shops we walked into completly ignored us and then said the only dress they have in 'my' size would be a size 28 (when in the other store I could easily get into a size 18) blink.gif So needless to say I gave up shopping after that store!

I have fallen in love with a gown that I found on a website of a well known ebay dress maker. I'm not too sure what designer they have based it on/got it from, and I havent been able to find anything close to it to try on. So im a little apprehensive about getting it without being able to try a similar one on incase it doesnt suit my body type, but at this point i dont think i really have a choice!

When we went to m@gg1es (who were fabulously wonderful) we found a dress that we all fell in love with, but now the more that I look at it, the more I fall in love with the other dress! wub.gif

Sooo my loong winded question is.. do you think I could pull off this new dress? Please be brutally honest!!

First Dress we all liked: (excuse the look and hair: didnt want to wear makeup just incase it marked the dresses)

love ur reception dress smile.gif

the dress i am having (and i am larger 2) is similar 2 the 2nd dress, just straight, not with the puff bit (best way for me 2 describe it... i am honestly not sure i guys if u try on a dress with the top part of the 2nd dress, and use the bottom part of the 1st, u can photoshop to give u a rough idea if that helps..

and what nasty ladies in the other shop.. no way would u be a 28.. so rude..

sorry im not much help

I think it depends on where you carry your weight.

The second dress needs a small waist and a decent bust (as well as a good foundation garment tongue.gif).

I'd be checking out formal wear rental stores for bridesmaids dresses, as I've seen similar necklines on some of them. It's really something you'd need to try, I think, as if it didn't look good I fear it might really really not look good.

Sorry I'm going off on a tangent here, but did you try Fairytales in Moonee Ponds? They stock a good range of sizes.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr, I hate wedding shops that make "bigger" girls, not that you are "big" by any stretch of the imagination, feel bad.

Sorry but whoever said you are a 28 needs their collective heads read, you would be pushing a 20.

That is why I carry a good range of plus sized. Funny that of the 6 plus sized I had, 4 walked off the racks and I have only two left. More on order due to arrive April. I love working with bigger girls, don't jump down my neck I am a 22 myself. So much for fun and so more willing to try dresses on.

If you are any where near dubbo PM me and we can set something up. I don't have much in stock but we can still try the others on a get an idea.

Honestly with the dresses I think they are to big on the skirts. Love the bodice on the one that you have tried on. You can get some really good Aline with the bit of gathering that you obviously like without adding 'bulk' to your botton half, after all who wants there deriere to look bigger.

Mori Lee have a great range called Juliette and would be good for ideas.

Some people are truly awful! I think you could definitely pull off both the second and third dress.. I love the third one have you considered having that one as you actual wedding dress? The back is lovely... I am really not that keen on the first one, so many girls wear this style and I vote go for something a little different. I agree with the others though try something with a neckline on first to see how you feel.. I think you will look beautiful! good luck

Thanks for the help girls smile.gif

I'll definatly try the store in Moonee Ponds and maybe look for a more A-line *non gathered* skirt..

This is the specific line Moonee Ponds stocks:

It says on the site their Clayton store stocks the range too if you're that side of town.

I tried dresses from the brand Anica just posted and they are beautiful! Fit really well and have stunning details.

I love the second dress you posted (the one you love) It's not the same as my wedding dress, but it has a similar structure in the bodice, with the rouching and the v neck - very flattering. I think you would look lovely in it. Try and find something similar to try and if it suits you can order online or have it made.

hope I was going to say the bodice in the 2nd is like yours :-) great minds think alike!!

And you're not 'big', 18-20 if you're lucky, not a 28!!!

I agree with Hope, Roz la Kelin Glamour are THE best! (Especially 5226T!) I'm not a fan of the pick-up styled skirts, and personally with no offence at all, the skirt of number 2 could make you look a little 28-ish on the lower half sad.gif I'd try to photshop the top and the bottom of the 2 dresses, so you could get an idea, then get it made on-line.

I think the first dress is the nicer of the two....

Is there any reason why your spending money on a ceremony and a reception dress?

Hello, I am new at this....firstly, you are not a size 28...blahhh to that boutique...Im from Nsw, Qld....have you tried Casar Elegance..I know they stock dresses in plus sizes...They have a beautiful range and the girls there were simply marvelous with girls of all sizes... really nice, down to earth help!!

I like all your dresses...but I really love the dress you have chosen for your reception..I would wear that as my wedding dress..its beautiful, elegant and not too fluffy!!! It really is!! At the end of the day, you know your body, try, try and keep trying to find something that flatters your best bits and curves..pulls in the tummy and hides your lumps and bumps..for me its my bum and hips...also remember to use your body shapers..thats what I have done..and I hope it works. wink.gif

You are a really gorgeous woman..show the woman in you..enhance what you love about yourself!!

I was too nervous to order online, i needed to see it on me....and still apprehensive!

Follow your instinct!

Looking forward to seeing what you pick!!
